Design Interview

28 September 2025 · The Diamond Lace Jewelry Set

The Diamond Lace Set was inspired by classical lacework, interpreted through a contemporary lens. My goal was to translate the rhythm and structure of lace into precious metal and diamonds, preserving its delicacy while exploring depth and dimension. The idea was to evoke lightness, movement, and emotion in a way that speaks of both heritage and innovation.

My focus was to create a piece that balances intricate beauty with architectural strength. I wanted the wearer to feel elegance, refinement, and individuality. At the same time, I aimed to establish a signature style that could become an identifiable part of my design language

The Diamond Lace Set has become a signature within my collection and I plan to expand it into several variations and one-of-a-kind pieces. I also intend to present it to a select group of luxury retailers and galleries where the full story and craftsmanship behind the design can be truly appreciated. This set is already becoming a cornerstone of my brand identity, and I envision future pieces that carry forward its spirit and elegance. Most meaningfully, the set has been accepted into the permanent collection of the MOOD Museum in Como, which reinforces its value not only as fine jewelry but also as a piece of enduring artistic and cultural relevance.

The process took several months from concept to final creation. Much of the time was spent refining the pattern to achieve perfect harmony between the open spaces and the diamond placements.

This design came from personal inspiration. It was not commissioned. I felt strongly about exploring lace as a sculptural element in fine jewelry, and the idea grew into a full set.

I produce this design under my own brand, G&D Unique Designs. The collection is available directly through my channels and select exhibitions.

I have always been fascinated by how jewelry can carry both visual and emotional narratives. Lace offered the perfect structure to explore symbolism, rhythm, and heritage within a modern framework.

This design was developed entirely from my own vision. I did not receive assistance from other designers or studios. The concept, structure, and details came from my personal exploration and experience. While I draw inspiration from many forms of classical and contemporary art, the Diamond Lace Set was not shaped by any external design influence. It is a deeply personal creation that reflects my artistic identity and technical approach.

Collectors of fine jewelry, high fashion clients, and those who appreciate craftsmanship and symbolic meaning. It is a statement piece meant for gala events, concerts, editorials, or private collections.

Its structural rhythm, refined calibration of diamonds, and lace-inspired geometry set it apart. It is not just an ornate piece, but a cohesive composition that balances delicacy with presence.

The name "Diamond Lace" captures both the material and the motif. It reflects the essence of the design that is a pattern reminiscent of lace, embellished with diamonds.

I used MatrixGold and other 3D CAD software to develop the structure. Final refinements were done by hand to ensure the pattern flowed naturally.

The most unique aspect of this design is the delicate interplay between open space and the carefully calibrated diamond layout. Each stone is positioned with precision to create a flowing rhythm that echoes the elegance of lace. The diamonds are not only structurally balanced but also artistically expressive. Under light they come alive, sparkling vividly and moving with a brilliance that gives the piece a sense of life. This radiant effect enhances the entire composition, making the jewelry feel soft and luminous, as though it breathes with the surrounding light. It transforms the design into something more than decorative and turns it into a vivid and emotionally engaging experience.

I did not collaborate with anyone for this design. Every aspect of the Diamond Lace Set was created by me personally, from the initial concept to the final modeling and layout. This allowed me to stay connected to every detail and ensure that the final result truly reflected my creative vision and artistic intent.

Technology played a crucial role in mapping out the precision of the pattern. It allowed me to preview the weight, structure, and diamond positioning before moving to physical production.

The research was largely visual and material-based. I studied historical lace samples, diamond behavior in light, and the limitations of metal casting to push the form to its limits.

Calibrating 110 diamonds into a flowing lace-like pattern while maintaining wearability was the biggest challenge. The visual balance had to be exact, and the setting needed to enhance the pattern rather than interrupt it.

I wanted this work to be judged not only as a piece of jewelry, but as a work of design. The A’ Design Award felt like the right platform to present the story and craft behind it.

This design taught me to trust my creative instincts more deeply. It reinforced the idea that restraint and structure, when paired with rich materials like diamonds and gold, can lead to something both refined and powerful.
Working with such a delicate pattern required me to adapt my process. The lace-inspired openwork demanded a level of precision and control that is very different from crafting larger, heavier jewelry pieces. I had to move with care and intention at every stage to avoid damaging any of the fine elements. This design pushed me to refine my techniques further and strengthened my patience, discipline, and sensitivity to material behavior during the modeling and production phases.

The Diamond Lace Set represents my philosophy that jewelry can be timeless, architectural, and emotionally resonant all at once. It bridges heritage and imagination. It is not just a piece to be worn, but a piece to be remembered.

Design Legend Interview

19 August 2025

My background began in classical music where I played violin and percussion. Later I composed electronic music, which helped me understand rhythm, form, and harmony in a very deep way. Over time, I felt the need to express my ideas in a physical medium, which led me to jewelry. I taught myself the craft from the ground up. There was no formal education, just passion, practice, and persistence. I started with a small home studio and eventually built G&D Unique Designs into a full jewelry brand known for blending artistic storytelling with craftsmanship.

Design gives me a way to speak without words. I became a designer to turn imagination into something you can touch and wear. Jewelry lets me create something beautiful that carries meaning. It can become part of someone's story. That emotional connection is what drives me. Each design is a chance to shape something timeless that resonates with others on a personal level.

It was a choice guided by inspiration. No one pushed me into design. I followed an inner calling to express ideas in a new way. Music came first, but as time went on, visual design became the path I needed to follow. It felt natural and deeply right for me. Once I discovered jewelry, it became clear that this was more than a profession. It was a personal mission.

I design fine jewelry including rings, pendants, and earrings with a focus on intricate patterns and gemstone settings. I enjoy combining elegance with structural precision. I hope to design more sculptural statement pieces in the future. I want to explore ideas that go beyond traditional formats. My vision is to create jewelry that feels both artistic and architectural, pieces that hold their presence whether worn or displayed.

Stay true to your vision. Study the craft deeply but do not try to copy others. Your originality will always be your strongest asset. Be patient and take the time to master your tools. Learn from tradition but think beyond it. Keep creating, even when no one is watching. And most of all, keep your work honest. When your designs come from a genuine place, people will feel it.

A good designer understands form and function. A great designer brings soul into that form. What elevates someone from good to great is the ability to evoke emotion, to tell a story, and to create something that transcends trends. A great designer pays attention to every detail but never loses sight of the overall vision. There is also a sense of risk. Great designers are willing to explore ideas that have not yet been tried.

A really good design has clarity, purpose, and balance. It feels complete, not just visually but emotionally. I evaluate a design by how well it communicates its intention: is it graceful, memorable, and functional? Does it invite curiosity? In jewelry, I also consider comfort and durability. The piece must feel as good to wear as it is beautiful to see.

Good design enriches daily life. It brings meaning into our environment and elevates the objects we interact with. Investing in good design is investing in quality, beauty, and longevity. In the case of jewelry, a well-designed piece can become part of a personal story, passed through generations. It is more than just ornament. It carries a legacy.

If I had the time, I would design a one of a kind haute couture jewelry set for an international cultural event. It would be something that brings together history, innovation, and symbolism. I would love to design for someone who genuinely values art in all its forms and sees jewelry not just as decoration but as a meaningful artistic expression.

I dream of creating a full exhibition of sculptural jewelry pieces, each one inspired by a different element of classical music. It would be a collection where each design is paired with a specific composition, displayed in an immersive space where visitors experience both sound and form in harmony. This would be a true merging of my artistic roots.

The essence of my success lies in intuition and persistence. I trust the internal voice that guides the direction of each piece, even when it feels unfamiliar. I also allow time for ideas to evolve naturally without forcing them. That quiet patience, paired with constant refinement, is what helps a vision mature into something extraordinary.

I find inspiration in a variety of disciplines. From classical architecture to haute couture fashion, there are visionaries whose commitment to detail and balance speaks to me deeply. Artists like René Lalique, who blended nature with design, and architects like Carlo Scarpa, who turned material into poetry, have left a lasting impression on my creative thinking.

I admire designs that appear effortless but reveal deep complexity upon closer examination. Whether it's a piece of jewelry with masterful stone-setting or a minimalist chair with perfect balance, I appreciate when craftsmanship is hidden within simplicity. These are the kinds of designs that stay with you long after the first encounter.

The Diamond Lace Ring from my award-winning collection represents one of my most complete works. It combines structural precision with lightness and elegance. The design balances complexity and openness, creating a lace-like effect through goldwork rather than actual lace. Its harmony between volume and air is what makes it stand out in my eyes.

Improvement begins with observation. Study nature, art, architecture, and how people live with the objects around them. I spent years refining my sensitivity to proportions, materials, and emotional resonance. Learning is ongoing, and humility is essential. The more I create, the more I realize how much more there is to understand.

I would likely have pursued music composition or filmmaking. Both are storytelling mediums that allow creative freedom and emotional expression, which align with how I think and feel.

Design is the art of giving form to feeling. It’s a way to express beauty, function, and intention in harmony. For me, design turns imagination into something others can touch, wear, and experience.

My greatest support came from within. It was a strong inner drive and a deep love for the creative process. Along the way, I’ve been encouraged by my family, clients, and mentors who believed in my vision and gave me room to grow.

Persistence, curiosity, and a relentless desire to improve. I’ve always looked for the deeper reason behind every design choice and never settled for something that didn’t feel right.

One of the biggest challenges was learning everything on my own. I had no formal training in jewelry design and had to teach myself both the creative and technical sides. It took years of trial, error, and determination to reach a level I could be proud of.

Designers should present their work with clarity and authenticity. The narrative behind the design is just as important as the piece itself. High quality images, compelling descriptions, and showing the creative process help others understand the soul of the work.

I’m currently working on a new collection that explores architectural symmetry with organic flow. It will be bolder in form while maintaining the grace and elegance that define my aesthetic.

To create pieces that leave a lasting emotional impression and become part of someone’s story. I want my work to inspire, uplift, and represent something meaningful in the lives of those who wear it.

People expect originality, quality, and authenticity. They look for a designer who has a distinct voice and can consistently deliver pieces that reflect a deep sense of artistry and care.

Design influences how we feel, interact, and connect. Thoughtful design improves our environments and experiences, while also expressing our values. In jewelry, it can be a way to honor heritage, celebrate identity, and communicate emotion.

I’m developing a small series of one of a kind statement pieces where every element is hand finished and unique. These pieces will push my craftsmanship and storytelling even further.

The Diamond Lace Collection and the Golden Sunflower Ring gave me immense satisfaction. It challenged me technically and creatively, and the response it received showed me that people resonated with the emotion and elegance behind it.

I would love to see a deeper appreciation for originality and timeless work. The industry often chases fast trends, but I believe in elevating craftsmanship and thoughtful storytelling.

Design is becoming more interdisciplinary, merging digital technology with traditional methods. I see a future where physical and digital aesthetics work hand in hand, creating new experiences and ways of connecting with art.

It varies depending on the complexity. Some pieces come together in a few days, while others require weeks of refinement, modeling, and finishing before they are complete.

I start with a clear concept, an idea or emotion I want to express through the piece. From there, I create initial sketches by hand, allowing the vision to take shape visually. Once the form feels right, I begin building the 3D model and gradually refine every detail until the design fully captures the intention behind it.

My motto is to design with purpose and passion. Every creation should carry meaning, reflect a story, and bring joy to the one who experiences it.

I believe design leads the way. Great design often inspires new trends, not the other way around. While designers may respond to cultural shifts, it is their vision that shapes what comes next.

Technology is a powerful extension of the imagination. It allows me to push creative boundaries, refine details, and bring complex concepts to life with precision and efficiency.

I use Matrix Gold for 3D modeling and design. Alongside traditional sketching, this software helps me visualize and prepare designs for casting. I also rely on high-quality tools for hand-finishing at the bench.

Color, material, and surrounding mood are central to how a design feels. In jewelry, the glow of a gemstone, the warmth of gold, or the contrast between textures can change the entire character of a piece. These elements are essential in shaping emotion and identity.

I wish people would ask about the story behind each piece. Jewelry is deeply personal, and every design I create is rooted in an idea, a symbol, or a feeling worth sharing.

When I see a truly great design, I feel admiration and curiosity. I think about the concept behind it, the choices the designer made, and how it speaks to people. I love discovering what makes it special.

For me, designing is a deeply personal and intuitive process. I don’t typically collaborate or co-design, because each piece I create is an expression of my own vision and emotion. While I respect partnerships in other creative fields, my best work emerges when I can fully immerse myself in the story I’m trying to tell through the design.

Rather than specific individuals, I have been influenced by artists and craftsmen from a wide range of disciplines. Musicians, painters, and sculptors from both classical and modern traditions have shaped the way I think about rhythm, structure, and emotional resonance in design.

Books on classical art, ornamental design, and architecture have had a strong impact on my aesthetic. They taught me the language of proportion and the timeless appeal of pattern and symmetry.

I developed my skills through dedicated practice, self-study, and constantly challenging myself with new techniques. I took time to understand materials deeply and refined my artistic voice through both experimentation and discipline.

I would love to have a conversation with Antonio Stradivari or Fabergé. Their mastery, vision, and ability to infuse soul into craft are endlessly inspiring.

I feel honored and humbled. The recognition is not just a personal reward, but a reminder that my work resonates with others. Fame is not my goal, but it does carry the responsibility to remain authentic and to keep raising the standard.

My favorite color is deep emerald green. I find peace by the sea or in the mountains. I enjoy Mediterranean cuisine.. My favorite season is spring, when everything feels fresh and renewed. As for brands, I admire those that remain true to their identity and show craftsmanship at every level.

There was a moment early in my journey when I was meticulously crafting a ring with a highly detailed filigree design. After hours of benchwork and adjustments, I finally finished the piece and stepped back to admire it. Just then, I realized I had made it one size too small. It was a technical oversight that was caused by working so long without stepping away. I had to start over from the beginning. It was frustrating at the time, but now I look back and smile. That experience taught me the importance of stepping back, resetting your perspective, and never rushing the process, no matter how inspired you feel in the moment. Creativity needs passion, but also pause.

Seeing a concept take shape is what drives me. When a design starts to come alive on screen or at the bench, I feel energized. Each small breakthrough brings excitement and makes the process feel rewarding.

Not at all. I was more focused on music and had no idea I’d one day turn to jewelry. But even then, I loved making things with my hands and had a fascination with detail. The path revealed itself later in life.

A thousand years from now, I imagine a world where art and technology are fully intertwined. Hopefully, humanity will still cherish beauty, symbolism, and craftsmanship, even as our tools and materials evolve in unimaginable ways.

To those who support and connect with my work, I want to say thank you. Every piece I create is a reflection of something personal and timeless. My goal is to make jewelry that tells stories and becomes part of your story. Art is not just what we make, but it’s what we share.

Designer Interview

19 August 2025

Since childhood, I’ve played the violin and classical percussion instruments, and as a teenager, I began creating my own electronic music. Later in life, I felt the need to express my imagination through a physical art form, which led me to explore jewelry making. I taught myself the craft, and that’s when I created my first jewelry pieces.

I began with a small home-based jewelry studio, which eventually grew into a fully integrated jewelry design and production brand.

To me, “design” is a storytelling without words. It’s a translation of vision into form, an emotional and visual language that speaks directly to the heart.

I’m most drawn to designing pieces where patterns, stones, and forms blend into a harmonious composition. I love it when each element enhances the others, where texture, shape, and material come together to create balance and rhythm. That’s where beauty becomes timeless.

My favorite design is always the next one — the one that hasn’t yet revealed itself. But if I had to choose from my existing work, I’d say Diamond Lace Collection. It captures the essence of what I strive for: elegance, intricacy, and a sense of timeless harmony between structure, ornament, and the delicate sparkle of diamonds.

The first thing I designed for the company was the “Opera” ring, which is a fully hand-engraved ring, centered with a concave-cut citrine and embellished with pink rubies.

Gold is my favorite material. It’s very malleable and fun to work with. For the CAD platform, I use Matrix Gold.

I find inspiration by immersing myself in nature, whether it’s the mountains or the oceanside, as well as through cultural experiences like concerts, museums, and theater visits. Spending time in these serene and beautiful environments helps me recharge and fuels my creativity when designing new pieces.

During the design process, I focus primarily on the harmony and proportion between form, function, and emotion. I pay close attention to how the design serves its purpose while maintaining aesthetic balance. The user experience is also central to my approach—I strive to create pieces that not only look beautiful but are also comfortable to wear.

When I design, I feel a mix of focus, curiosity, and joy. It’s exciting to see an idea grow from a simple thought into something real and meaningful. I also feel a sense of responsibility, knowing that the final piece should connect with people. Overall, it’s a very rewarding and inspiring experience.

When my designs are realized, I feel a deep sense of fulfillment and gratitude. It’s incredibly rewarding to see something that started as an idea take shape and connect with others in the real world.

A design is successful when it not only looks beautiful but also serves its purpose effectively and resonates with people.

When judging a design, I first consider its balance of aesthetics and function. In jewelry, this means not just visual beauty and uniqueness, but also wearability and emotional connection. A great design speaks to both the eye and the heart.

As designers, we have a responsibility to create solutions that are both beautiful and sustainable. Our work should improve lives, be socially responsible, and minimize environmental impact, helping to build a better future.

My design style blends intricate patterns and ornamental elements with a more contemporary approach. Some of my pieces focus on traditional decorative designs, while others embrace modern, minimalist aesthetics. I’m drawn to this balance because it allows me to explore both timeless beauty and fresh, innovative expressions.

My design process starts with defining the overall concept. Once I have a clear vision, I move on to sketching ideas by hand, followed by creating 3D models. Then I prepare it for casting, and finally finish the jewelry creation by following benchwork.

My advice to young designers is to stay curious, be patient with your growth, and trust your creative voice. Keep learning from both tradition and innovation, and don’t be afraid to experiment. Most importantly, stay true to your own style—authenticity is what sets your work apart.

The positive side of being a designer is that you have an opportunity to express your imagination. The negative aspect of it is that you constantly need to innovate to meet the fast-changing demand.

My golden rule in design is to always stay true to the concept while balancing beauty and function.

A good designer needs a mix of creativity, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. It’s also important to have strong visualization abilities, technical knowledge, and a good understanding of materials and production.

My imagination, sketching, and 3D modeling are my most essential tools in design creation.

I manage my time by first creating and visualizing the form clearly in my mind, refining it until the concept feels complete. Once I have a strong idea, I move to 3D modeling, which helps streamline the rest of the process and keep things efficient.

Each project is different. Some designs can be created in just a few hours, while others take weeks and require many adjustments, depending on their complexity.

I strive to offer a wide range of products that accommodate different age groups, aiming to create designs that are both aesthetically appealing and practical for everyday wear, as well as for special occasions. My goal is to make pieces that are not only visually striking but also accessible and meaningful to a broad audience.

Looking ahead, I plan to continue developing unique collections of a wider range of styles that blend artistic expression with contemporary design.

I don’t have a team. The whole process, starting from the design and finishing with the manufacturing of the final piece, is done by me.

Grand Interview

22 October 2025 · The Diamond Lace Jewelry Set

The Diamond Lace Jewelry Set was inspired by the timeless beauty and emotional depth of classical music. Music, as an art form, has an incredible power to resonate with the human soul, often bringing to mind intricate patterns and captivating ideas. I wanted to capture that feeling and translate it into something tangible. The lace-like structure reflects the delicate, layered nature of musical notes flowing together, while the modern touches give the collection a fresh, contemporary edge. For me, this collection is about balancing classical elegance with a modern twist, creating pieces that feel timeless yet completely relevant today. It’s my way of letting people wear a little piece of music’s harmony and rhythm in a form they can cherish every day.

The idea for the ring’s mirror-like interior came from my desire to amplify the natural beauty of the central stone using clever structural elements rather than relying solely on additional gems. By integrating reflective surfaces inside the setting, light is bounced back through the stone, creating a mesmerizing play of brilliance that feels almost infinite. Perfecting the angles required extensive testing and 3D modeling to ensure that each facet of the interior aligned perfectly with the stone’s cut. This approach creates a striking contrast between the airy lace-like exterior and the precise, light-catching interior — highlighting how thoughtful engineering can elevate elegance to a new level.

Sustainability is at the core of my design philosophy, and choosing lab-grown Colombian emeralds was a meaningful decision for this collection. I wanted to show that luxury and responsibility can coexist beautifully. Lab-grown stones reduce the environmental impact and ensure a transparent, ethical supply chain — which aligns with my brand’s values. Aesthetically, these emeralds offer the same vivid green hue and clarity as mined stones, allowing me to maintain the collection’s high visual standard while staying true to my ethical commitment. It’s a statement that today’s fine jewelry can respect nature and still captivate with timeless beauty.

The lace-like pattern is the soul of this collection and one of its most rewarding challenges. I aimed to make the design so thin and airy that it naturally created a lace-like effect, without losing the strength needed to hold each stone securely. Balancing that delicate look with real structural integrity was a challenge — every line and curve had to be carefully tested to stay strong yet feel weightless. In the end, this airy pattern is what ties the whole collection together, giving each piece a sense of movement and harmony that’s both timeless and modern.

Finding the right balance between visual impact and comfort was essential. I wanted each piece to feel bold yet weightless, so I carefully calculated the dimensions of each element during the design phase. Using 3D modeling, I tested various thicknesses and layer depths to ensure the structure stayed strong without becoming heavy. The lace-like openwork naturally reduced weight while adding an airy elegance. This attention to balance means the collection feels as luxurious to wear as it is to behold.

Working with precise angles is always a test of patience and skill, especially when the goal is to achieve perfect light reflection. The biggest challenge was aligning the mirror-like interior of the ring so that it caught and reflected light exactly as intended. But the real test came in the crafting stage: ensuring that inside surface was polished flawlessly and maintained its integrity during setting and finishing. Even the slightest deviation could disrupt the visual effect.

This project took that much because it wasn’t the only project I was focused on at the time — I had ongoing orders and other design ides as well. Another factor was that the collection includes not just a ring but also earrings and a pendant, and each piece required its own unique design approach and problem-solving to get the details just right. One pivotal moment was deciding to experiment with the mirror-like interior of the ring — it was a risk, but it gave the set its distinctive character.

I hope the Diamond Lace Collection shows how classical inspiration can blend beautifully with modern design. By bringing together the rhythm of music, the airy feel of lace, and the precision of today’s technology, it pushes the limits of what fine jewelry can be. I believe future trends will move more toward this kind of thoughtful storytelling, where art and innovation go hand in hand. I’d love for this collection to encourage other designers to revisit classic ideas and re-imagine them in fresh, relevant ways. For me, it’s proof that true innovation doesn’t mean leaving tradition behind — it means transforming it for our time.

Placing so many diamonds into the earrings took a lot of careful planning and attention to detail. Each stone needed to be perfectly matched for size and clarity so they would look harmonious together. The arrangement wasn’t random — I used CAD to map out the pattern and then adjusted it by hand to find just the right balance between sparkle and open space. One of the biggest challenges was keeping the lace-like pattern flowing smoothly while making sure every diamond was secure and well-positioned. In the end, this careful approach creates a lively play of light and shadow that makes the earrings shine beautifully with every move.

The Diamond Lace Collection is a milestone for my brand because it shows how far G&D Unique Designs has come in blending art, craftsmanship, and modern ideas. This collection really reflects my passion for creating pieces that feel unique and carry a sense of story. The intricate lace pattern has become a signature element in my work — it’s a detail that people now associate with my style. Moving forward, I want to keep building on this idea, pushing it in new directions with bolder shapes, new structures, and fresh combinations. For me, it’s about evolving and exploring what’s possible, while staying true to the delicate elegance that defines my jewelry.

Grand Interview

22 October 2025 · Golden Sunflower Ring

The vision for the Golden Sunflower Ring was always to create something that felt organically alive, capturing the true spirit of a blooming flower rather than relying on conventional techniques. I knew from the start that using traditional prongs would break the natural flow I wanted to achieve. Through careful experimentation and design development, I came up with the idea of supporting the central stone using a series of inner petals crafted in white gold. Each petal was meticulously shaped and positioned to gently embrace the Amethyst, much like real petals cradle a flower’s seeds. This approach not only secures the stone but transforms the setting into an integral part of the design’s narrative. The process required great technical precision and patience, yet the result embodies my belief that functionality should enhance the beauty and symbolism of the piece.

Nature never uses just one shade of color, and I wanted the ring to echo that subtle complexity. The decision to blend yellow and white gold stemmed from my vision to recreate the true spirit of a sunflower’s layers and textures. Yellow gold embodies the warmth and optimism of sunlight, which sunflowers naturally follow, while white gold brings contrast, highlighting the delicate inner petals and the Amethyst they hold. This duality gives the ring depth and visual interest from every angle. The combination also symbolizes balance — the harmony of boldness and subtlety. For me, this mix of metals elevates the piece from a simple floral motif to a sophisticated, wearable sculpture that celebrates both the strength and elegance of nature.

. When I started working on this ring, my goal was to create a flower-shaped piece that felt real and alive. I designed many different versions but couldn’t find one that truly satisfied me. After a long stretch of work, I took a short nap, and in that moment, I clearly saw the version I had been searching for. That vision brought everything together — the shape, the flow, and the meaning behind it. The sunflower’s symbolism of resilience and growth really spoke to me. It reminds us that we can push through challenges, adapt, and stay positive no matter what. I brought that spirit into the ring by designing the petals to support the Amethyst, showing how life’s difficulties can actually help us grow stronger and shine brighter.

One of the biggest challenges was designing tiny petals that could actually hold the central Amethyst stone securely. Each petal had to be strong enough to support the stone yet delicate enough to keep the look organic and light. Before installing the Amethyst and positioning the petals around it, each petal had to have its diamond set first — working at this tiny scale required extreme precision and patience. Another challenge was that each petal had to go into its own designated spot only; they couldn’t be mixed and matched. This is because every petal had to be individually shaped by hand to fit perfectly and make proper contact with the edges of the concave-cut Amethyst. After shaping, setting, and polishing, they were carefully installed one by one in the exact order to maintain the natural flow and symmetry. This level of detail is what makes the ring feel truly alive, like a real flower blooming on the finger.

I have always been drawn to the mystical qualities of Amethyst — its association with spiritual growth, protection, and transformation resonates deeply with the ring’s core message. I chose an African Amethyst for its rich, vibrant purple hue and ethical sourcing. The concave cut, while less conventional, adds a sense of movement and depth to the stone, much like the spiraling seeds at the heart of a real sunflower. Light plays within the facets, creating a dynamic visual effect that changes with every glance. This echoes the idea that growth and resilience are ever-changing, adapting to the light around them. The stone’s energy, combined with its unique cut, makes the ring not only beautiful but also symbolically powerful.

From the beginning, I knew the design had to feel as good as it looked. The by-pass shank creates an elegant, flowing line that mirrors the natural curves of a flower’s stem. However, without careful engineering, such a shape can cause instability, allowing the ring to twist uncomfortably. To solve this, I integrated the leaves not only as decorative elements but also as functional stabilizers. They help balance the weight and keep the ring centered on the finger. This balance of art and function required several prototypes and refinements, but the result is a ring that feels secure and comfortable while staying true to the floral story. It’s a reminder that great design is always about harmony between beauty and wearability.

Being recognized by the A' Design Award has been incredibly rewarding because it reaffirms my belief that design should be both meaningful and technically innovative. This honor motivates me to keep pushing boundaries and experimenting with new ideas while holding onto the values that define my work: authenticity, symbolism, and masterful execution. It reminds me that every piece has the potential to connect with people on an emotional level. Moving forward, I want to continue creating jewelry that is not just visually stunning but also tells a story that empowers the wearer. This recognition has given me renewed confidence to pursue bolder, more ambitious projects for G&D Unique Designs.

I see myself as both a guardian of tradition and an explorer of modern possibilities. Mastering classical techniques like precise stone-setting and hand-finishing allows me to bring a sense of authenticity and quality to every piece. At the same time, I embrace 3D modeling as an essential tool that opens up new creative opportunities. For the Golden Sunflower Ring, 3D modeling helped me experiment with different shapes, angles, and how each petal would interact with the concave-cut Amethyst — all before moving to the hands-on craftsmanship stage. This combination of technology and traditional skills makes it possible to achieve designs that would be extremely challenging by hand alone. For me, blending these approaches creates pieces that are not only timeless but also fresh, showing how the past and future can work together in beautiful harmony.

I hope that wearing the Golden Sunflower Ring feels like carrying a daily reminder of hope and resilience. The sunflower has long been a symbol of positivity and growth, and the Amethyst brings an added dimension of spiritual transformation and protection. I envision this ring connecting deeply with people who are on their own journey of overcoming challenges and blossoming into their full potential. It’s a piece that speaks quietly but powerfully, offering warmth, light, and an emotional bond that goes beyond adornment. When someone wears it, I want them to feel that they have a small, beautiful talisman that reminds them to always turn towards the sun.

My advice is to trust your vision and respect your craft equally. Never be afraid to question traditional solutions if they don’t serve your design’s story. It’s important to learn the fundamentals thoroughly — they are your toolkit for realizing ambitious ideas. But remember that true innovation happens when you allow your imagination to guide you past what seems possible. Stay patient with the challenges and persistent through setbacks; they often lead to breakthroughs. Above all, stay authentic. Your work should always reflect your values and artistic integrity, because that’s what will resonate most with people and make your creations timeless.
