About Lacey Am Bracelets Cuff
Tha drathairean againn uile làn den lace a rinn ar màthraichean agus ar sean-seanmhair. Bha na doyleys sin air an cleachdadh mar sgeadachadh air bùird cofaidh, seataichean tbh, no cathraichean-armachd. An-diugh, tha luach faireachail aca, ach chan eil feum sam bith orra. Rinn Diana Sokolic bracelets lùbte le lace eadar dà phlàta de Plexiglas follaiseach. Tha pìosan brèagha air an dèanamh le gaol agus foighidinn air an adhbhar fhaighinn air ais a’ ceangal ar n-àm a dh’ fhalbh leis an latha an-diugh.

- Unique Properties
- Our great grandmothers and grandmothers were brought up to play piano, read poetry and make lace. In the 60ies, their daughters kept those lace doyleys under the glass on coffee tables and commodes. Now we have drawers full of lace and needlework. It has no use in modernly furnished flats, it hass just an emotional value.
I have made cuff bracelets with lace between two plates of transparent Plexiglas.
In this way the lace has kept its transparency, gained new use, at the same time recognizing the women who made it and those who kept it for us. - Dimensions & Packaging
- 130 x 75 x 50 mm

- Production Technology
- Lace and PMMA
I did not want to put delicate lace in a metal frame or any other heavy material. So I decided to put it between two pieces of transparent Plexiglas. - Design Challenge
- Since PMMA has to be heated in order to be bent, the most challenging part was how to heat it without burning the delicate threads of needlework and then how to connect the lace and the Plexiglas without the glue.
- Research
- This project was technically the most diffucult one for me. I was affraid that I will burn the lace while experimenting with different temperatures in order to bent the PMMA, since I could not experiment with something else except the lace itself.
PMMA plates have to be really hot in order to stick to one another, while the lace is between the layers.
I had to find lace doyleys which are not to big because cuffs have to be weareable. - Inspiration
- From time to time I open the drawer with lace and needlework kept between sheets of thin white paper. I look at them with love and patience, expecting to hear them talking to me. I know that those pieces want to be used again, that they want to show their beauty. And one day it just happened! They talked to me!
- Project Duration
- I have made these bracelets in my hometown Zagreb, Croatia
and the process lasted for several month.
This project has not been shown jet. - Operation Flow
- Cuffs are open at the back so one size fits all
