About The Changer Day and Day Íbúðarbygging
Changer Day and Day er íbúðarbygging staðsett í Hsinchu-borg í Taívan. Hvítur litur er notaður sem aðallitur, sem myndar andstæðu við jarðlitina og gráu tónana sem eru algengir í byggingarlist á staðnum. Svalarammar eru málaðir í hefðbundnum litum japanskra kimóna, þar á meðal ísgrænum, næstum hvítum, patrinia-blómslit og örfjaðralit. Innfelldir gluggar og útstæðar svalir veita skugga fyrir sólu og draga úr rafmagnsnotkun. Sjálfhreinsandi flísar draga úr áhrifum ryks og súrs regns. Svalirnar eru raðaðar þannig að allir íbúar njóta jafngóðs útsýnis yfir hafið í nágrenninu.

Behind the Design

Credits, team members and technical details provided by the designer.
- Unique Properties
- The culture of color usage on buildings in Taiwan is rather restrained. While most of the metropolitan architectures are in earth tones or greyish shades, the designer daringly chooses white as the main color of the building. Vibrant use of colors, materials, and irregular layout makes a striking difference on the urban landscape.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- This project is 3022 square meters.

- Production Technology
- The design applies Japanese traditional colors of kimono on the frames of balconies; ice green, barely white, patrinia flower and arrow feather (yagasuri), symbolizing purity, newborn, adolescence, and marriage, these life processes in a family, integrate blessings of life into the design concept.
- Design Challenge
- Balconies are arranged with logical order to ensure every resident enjoys the same size and same right to the seaside view. The rectangular geometric shape on the rooftop forms a different movement of the skyline. During the night, lights on abundant colors of the balconies form an interesting architectural profile in the city. The whole design wishes to bring a tranquil atmosphere for the residents, adding a vigorous energy to the city.
- Research
- Applying recessed windows and protruded balconies on the building facade helps achieve the goal of less electricity use with more sun shading. The white color also reduces the oppressive visual impact of high-rise buildings. In addition, with efficiently self-cleaning tiles, the building can always look as new, keeping it from pollution of the outdoor dust and acid rain.
- Inspiration
- Taking Amsterdam, the city of port, as inspiration, the designer wishes to bring in a lively architectural impression full of colors. The building is located near the seaside, which is rather wide and spacious enough to show the complete exterior appearance. Thus, by proposing an avant-garde concept, the designer aims to challenge and shape up the skyline of residential architecture in Taiwan.
- Project Duration
- This project is finished in October 2021 in Hsinchu City, Taiwan
- Operation Flow
- On the exterior of the building, recessed windows and protruded balconies function as sun shading and electricity saving. Self-cleaning tiles reduce frequency of repair or cleaning, preventing it from acid rain and dust. White color use lowers the oppressive impact of high-rise buildings in the city. Eco-friendly paintings applied on the balconies improve the city landscape.
