More About Van Gogh's Rosebush Necklace
Van Gogh's Rosebush is a handmade necklace inspired by the painting Rosebush in Blossom by Vincent van Gogh. The necklace is made of 18 karat gold and freshwater biwa button pearls. The pearls recall the rounded shapes and varied sizes of the roses on the canvas. The gold forms branches that link one pearl to another. The tip of the necklace is detachable, so the piece can be matched to the mood and the neckline of the day. The slightly curved form helps the necklace fit the body. The design offers a modern use of pearls.
About Larissa Moraes
I grew up in colorful household filled with art history books, canvases and brushes. Being the daughter of a struggling artist, I sought refuge in the pursuit of a stable career in law. After studying law, I started working as a legal aide in Brazil´s Senate and the federal government in Brasilia, Brazil´s capital. After years of exposure to heavy state bureaucracy, I realized that my heart was not where my work was and strived to find other employment opportunities where I could satisfy my creative desires. A friend of mine introduced me to the jewelry world and it was love at first sight. I initially started drawing and designing after I would return home from work…

Design Details
- Unique Properties
- Handmade necklace made with the best raw material. gold 18k and pearls.. Designing a necklace inspired by Van Gogh’s “Rosebush in Blossom” required a different approach. Pearls were a natural choice to represent the rounded shapes and different sizes of the roses on Van Gogh’s canvas. Van Gogh’s branches became gold as they connect pearl to pearl in a complex web of beauty. The necklace’s tip is detachable, allowing the user to match the mood and neckline of the day. This necklace was made for the red carpet.
- Inspiration
- Rosebush in Blossom Vincent van Gogh Date: 1889; Arles, Bouches-du-Rhône, France Style: Post-Impressionism Genre: landscape Media: oil, canvas Location: National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo, Japan Dimensions: 33 x 42 cm
- Research
- After extensive research on Van Gogh's paintings (there are almost 2000 works), the painting was chosen that would be the inspiration for the design. Then research was carried out on the painted tree (understanding of what the painter saw to be inspired). Realized the ideal design of the piece and choice of the ideal materials for execution.
- Challenge
- The proposal of the necklace defies the conservative standards given to pearls. The idea here is to let go of the classic archetype of pearls and surrender to the spirit of modernity. Gold connects the dots as it recreates Van Gogh’s painting. The necklace's slightly curved shape gives way to the perfect fit; its tip is detachable allowing for *versatility* depending on mood, neckline and cleavage. Rosebush *undoubtedly* has what it takes to turn dullness into glamour.
