What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?

The main principle is the use of technologies for creating a constantly changing dynamic identity. The idea is that consumers make the constant change and dynamics by walking and having the movement recorded and by writting a symbol while buying a ticket. All individual data is used for producing individual souvenirs, for dynamics of logotype in a website and movement graphics in screen. My inspiration source was Martin Lindstrom book "Brand Sense" which made me think of innovative way for setting a friendship between company and consumer.

What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?

I was interested in finding a way of using consumer as a source for constantly changing dynamics of comapny's visual identity. I was looking for a strategy that would allow both sides to get its benefits. Company gives technology in a strategy of experience and gets unique identity. Consumer gives his data and gets unique individual souvenirs.

What are your future plans for this award winning design?

Definately I want to find a company that would be interested in owning and producing this identity system. Now, Modern Art Museum is chosen only as an equivalent of a company to share the essential idea. With few adjustments this strategy can fit to wide range of companies. However, behind this project there is a theoretical work that is a key source for the idea of designing constantly changing dynamic identities, so I am also looking forward for producing more this kind of identities.

How long did it take you to design this particular concept?

It took approximately four months. Well, maybe five months, including everything from a very start of finding and reading Martin Lindstrom book and then presenting my work to the audience.

Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?

I had to pick a theme for my final work of a bachelor degree. In the start of last semester I already knew that I want to write thesis about corporate identity and everything that comes with it, so I was studying required field, reading lots of books, doing researches, analysing, brainstorming, learning technologies, planning strategies. For four months I was no-lifer because I was obsessed with the idea of making identity that would be constantly changing and influenced by people. The only problem was to find technology and think of identity system, structure and strategy that would allow to get visually solid result.

Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?

It is not being produced or used by any company yet. This is a thing that I expect to achieve by participating in contests and sharing the idea in public. I would like to experience this system as a consumer, so I am interested in selling or leasing the production rights.

What made you design this particular type of work?

My curiosity in identity field and seek for innovation. Inspiration gained while reading Martin Lindstrom "Brand Sense" and a bachelor degree circumstances in Vilnius Academy of Arts. Love.

Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?

Yes, a bachelor degree advisor lect. Marius Bartkus.

What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?

Constant visual change made by consumers. System and structure of dynamic identity that allows consumer to influence the identity. The endless number of visual results.

How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?

It was pretty easy to decide the name - it clearly describes the essence of the project. ICC is the short name for the "Identity Created by Consumer".

Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?

Adobe After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator.

What is the most unique aspect of your design?

Constant consumer influence for the visual identity of a company. The endless number of visual possibilities. Ability to have unique individual identity in company's identity structure.

Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?

I collaborated with lect. Marius Bartkus for getting advices and critics toward concept and design. Also with friends, when I had to shoot people movement in order to get appropriate image. Everything else I made on my own, because I like to experience the process of creation myself, even the areas that are completely new for me. Non-commercial projects are the best opportunity to get such experience, because you can risk the time and quality.

What is the role of technology in this particular design?

Technologies plays a very important role in "ICC". It is a key-point that allows to collect, process and use the creative consumer data in order to get the changing dynamics of company's visual identity.

Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?

Yes, the concept of the project is based on analytical researches in theory of identity as a philosophy and psichology, corporate identity, dynamic corporate identity, branding, company's strategies, consumer behavior, innovative technologies, ways of collecting processing and using the visual data.

What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?

There were lots of challenges during all the process of this project. From managing lots of new different information while brainstorming the concept, to technical challenges: working with a green-screen, shooting and processing a video, effecting and getting the right images.

How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?

I was looking for a way to make "ICC" seen public. Then remembered that a well-known lithuanian designer Edvardas Kavarskas won a gold award in "A Design Award 2012" for designing Lithuanian Vodka package. I decided to apply there too, because it seemed to be a perfect opportunity to share the idea with a broad audience.

What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?

Well, after all researches, analyses and brainstorming processes, I feel like I became a queen of identity. I got a strong basic understanding of how corporate identity works, so now I know how it can be improved and innovated, what must be done in order to get a unique corporate identity that sets a strong friendship between company and consumer. "ICC" gave me lots of good new experience in both, theoretical and technical areas.

Since early childhood exploring the real world and imagining how different or better it could be and bringing these ideas to paper or in any other shape was my daily entertainment.

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

Since early childhood exploring the real world and imagining how different or better it could be and bringing these ideas to paper or in any other shape was my daily entertainment. I never had a goal of becoming a designer, just during the years of creative activities, I found out that design is something that describes things that I do.

What is "design" for you?

Design is a tool to make world a better place to live in.

What kinds of works do you like designing most?

I like making innovative structural projects, that requires interdisciplinary connections. It is area where I can dream of impossible things and make them become possible. In general I love doing projects from the start to the end. so I can think of philosophy behind the project, set the concept and then experiment with visuals.

What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

I avoid picking favourite design because I believe that when you have your favourites, there comes a possibility of becoming similar to the favourite. I rather do daily research of present designs and stalk for quality, innovation and inspiration. It allows to understand design trends and see where it goes, so then I am able to produce original design.

It also works as inspiration for making projects that would become someone else's favourite.

What was the first thing you designed for a company?

If a rock band can be called a company, then my first design was a logotype for lithuanian rock band called "My Favourite Gun".

What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

I like making any kind of art in reality and then transfering it to digital processing. The form of art I choose depending on the concept of the project. I like to experiment with various materials and ways of making visuals. For transfering I like to use photography. Programmes work as a finishing tool.

When do you feel the most creative?

When I am free to do anything I want to do. Or when I create something out of nothing, when I make things possible where on the first sight they seem to be impossible. The latter case is rather a proof of creativity.

Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?

The concept and visual esthetics.

What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?

Complete enthusiasm! Every new design project is an opportunity to produce something that was never seen before. This thought makes me feel excited!

What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?

Rainbows and sunshines all over my body. Complete happiness.

What makes a design successful?

Concept, innovation, esthetics, function and philosophy that comes with the design.

When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?

Depends on the area of design. Usually I judge concept and function first. Next comes innovation, esthetics and philosophy behind the design.

From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

Huge responsibilities! First of all design must give you hidden value - message or function - only then there comes a visual perfection for selling that value in a shape of a well designed product. I see design as a tool for high quality ideas to bring to life.

How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

Design is getting interdisciplinary, merging distances between different various areas. Visually it is getting cleaner, more and more details are refused or simplified in order to tranfer the information as quick as possible. I hope in future design will absolutely work for function, so esthetics will be only a clever way of presenting the function.

Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?

Design inspiration comes from everywhere. My lifestyle is a food for creativity. Source of inspiration can be anything. More important is to clearly understand the task and to know, what you want to achieve. In general the attitude is the key of creativity - with great attitude inspiration sources vary and you get abillity to take all the best you need.

How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

Artistic and experimental. I always want to give additional value for design. To solve the problem and then give individual touch to tell that it was made by me, not anyone else. There are lots of designers who seem to have the same visual esthetics. Sometimes you can take designs of ten different people and they all seem to be done by one person. Of course it is not easy to show your individuality if you use someone else's typeface pictures or graphics... Even though it is possible, if you know who you are, what you like and you are able to stay that way in every given task. Or it is absolutely possible if you do everything yourself, the only disadvantage that it steals time and requires lots of knowledge and effort to get required quality.

Can you talk a little about your design process?

Well, I think I work according to stereotype of design process. Understanding the task, finding goals, deciding the strategy for achieving goals, analysing the situation, searching for idea and concept, making visual research, designing visual part and then producing the result. I enjoy every step of design process, even though thinking of the concept and having the result done I enjoy most, because they bring huge excitement and curiosity. Everything else is steps of various researches and attentive work in order to reach required goal.

Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?

Oh, I am very young myself! Even though my main advice would be to always have your own opinion. Hear everything what people say, consider it and think twice if any opinion must be a reason for changes of your decision. Still mind opinions of professionals and be brave enough to take a risk and do the way you think would be the best way to do. Learn the rules - you will be able to break them and bring innovative results. Don't think different. Think yourself.

From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?

Positive thing is that you can colour the world with creative ideas. Bring your inner universe to reality and make people happy, ease and relieve their routine. Negatives... it is quite individual thing. Since every negative is a great opportunity for making positive, I like concentrating on positives more. Negative is a mistake. Once you learn a lesson, positive comes out.

What skills are most important for a designer?

Conceptual thinking, understanding of function and esthetics, ability to produce the highest quality result as fast as possible. With minimum effort get maximum result.

Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?

Talking about project itself, I tend to give more time of finding goals of the task, setting the concept and visual esthetics. When you know exactly what must be done all you have to do is to bring it to life. Talking about managing few projects at the same time... I remember deadlines and I do my best to fit it. If I see that there is no chance to fit the deadline, then I simplify my idea, work process or I just simply shorten my sleeping hours. Depends on the project and the deadline.

What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?

Setting concepts and designing visual identities or any elements of it. I like to analyse, describe, identify and search for a best representative outcome or new angles to see same things differently. Designing identity is also opportunity to get to the very essential information of the identificational object, understanding why and how it is different from everything else. I like it a lot.

What are your future plans? What is next for you?

I need to collect more experience in design field. How I will do that? The future will show.

Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?

I like developing designs myself. I like to bring the idea exactly the way I see it. It is a way of streaming my worldview directly to the audience. I also enjoy working in a team - it is always a great opportunity to learn new things, understand different attitudes and have more opinions.
