About Ori Rama Papa

Ko Ori he rama papa i awea e te origami Hapanihi, ā, ko te tikanga o Ori ko te takai. He mea hanga mai i te pepa konumohe hurirua kotahi, e whakaatu ana i te hoahoa tōtika, toitū hoki, kāore he hiahia ki te whakapiri rino. Ka takaia whakamuri te wāhanga o runga hei hanga i tētahi ārai rama e hono ngātahi ana. Me tōna teitei e 35 īnihi me te tūāpapa iti, ka tukuna e Ori he māramatanga ngāwari, kore-kanapa hoki, e pai ana mō te pānui pukapuka, ā, he māmā tonu ki te nekeneke. I tana wehe atu i ngā hanganga āhuahanga tawhito, ka whakatutuki te hoahoa i tētahi taurite rangatira i waenga i te whāinga mahi me te ātaahua.

About the A' Design Award Hiriwa

Ko Ori Rama Papa te toa o te A' Design Award Hiriwa, he whakaaetanga tino whai mana e hoatu ana ki ngā hoahoa taumata teitei rawa, ātaahua me te whakamīharo. Ko ngā toa Hiriwa he mahi tino kanapa, tino auaha e whakaatu ana i te mātanga, te pūmanawa me te mōhio hōhonu o ā rātou kaihoahoa. E tūmanakohia ana ko Ori Rama Papa he mahi whakamīharo, he tauira, he tino ngaio, he auaha hōhonu. Ko tēnei hoahoa i toa i te Hiriwa he hanganga rongonui, whakamīharotia e whai wāhi ana ki te whakawhānui i ngā rohe o te toi, te pūtaiao, te hoahoa me te hangarau. Ko Ori Rama Papa he mahi e hae ana te tini, e whakaara ana i ngā hiahia, e kawe mai ana i ngā kare-ā-roto pai, ā, e whakaoho ana i te mīharo.

Unique Properties: Ori is a floor lamp inspired by Japanese origami, with “ori” meaning “folding.” Crafted from a single sheet of recyclable aluminum, Ori is minimal and eco-friendly, using no welding and featuring a graceful, reverse-folded top that forms an elegant lampshade. With a compact footprint and 35-inch height, Ori provides ample, glare-free light for reading while being easy to move. Designed to break from conventional geometric styles, it achieves a unique blend of aesthetics and function.
Dimensions & Packaging: Width 165mm x Depth 152mm x Height 889mm

Production Technology: 9 gauge 5052 aluminum alloy. Sheet metal stamping.
Design Challenge: The most challenging aspect of this design was achieving an elegant and minimalist form while minimizing material use and manufacturing complexity. Lincoln needed to ensure that the folded structure provided both stability and production efficiency. External challenges included material selection, production limitations, and optimizing the form for easy transport. Internal challenges involved in-depth research on origami principles and adapting them to metal fabrication.
Research: Lincoln conducted extensive form studies for this project, aiming to create an elegant and minimalist design while using the least amount of material possible. Inspired by origami, he experimented with high-GSM paper to develop the form. By creating models in various shapes and sizes, he arrived at a refined final design. This form optimizes material usage and manufacturing efficiency, is easy to transport, and achieves a balance of simplicity and visual interest.
Inspiration: Lincoln aimed to design a lighting fixture with an elegant and minimalist form that is easy to produce and transport while utilizing a single material whenever possible. Drawing inspiration from Japanese origami, he explored how simple folds could transform a flat sheet of material into a three-dimensional and visually engaging structure.
Project Duration: This project began drafting in September 2024 and is currently in the prototyping phase. The design location for the project is in Pasadena, California.
Operation Flow: Lincoln's design is inspired by Japanese origami. The art of origami, which transforms flat sheets of paper into three-dimensional, full forms, left a deep impression on him. It revealed how a simple medium can be transformed into countless variations using clever techniques. He applied this concept in the design of the Ori floor lamp. With just simple folds, the Ori transforms a single sheet of metal into an elegant lighting fixture.
