Belonging is a residential interior design for a family of three generations in Taiwan. The home covers 512 square meters and has a narrow, elongated layout with a low ceiling. Grille elements form the main theme and extend from the first floor to the upper floors. The grilles also serve as display units, storage and room dividers. Stained wood veneer parquet and lighting lines follow the same linear pattern. A mirrored ceiling reflects the interior and increases the sense of height. The top floor holds shared entertainment areas and a covered terrace.

Production Technology
The linear and continuous wood skin texture, lighting design and mirror material mapping effect of the grille can open the field of view and height of the space in as many aspects as possible, while maximizing the use of natural light in the room, and also enhance the interaction and communication of the family.
Design Challenge
The living area needs to be incorporated into the living room, sacrifice, and the rich function of two dining rooms. On this premise, how to construct the open penetration of the space, so that the family of different spaces can still communicate, and ensure the independence of the space function, comfortable moving flow proportion and abundant light use, is a more difficult challenge in this case.
Project Duration
The project started in May 2023 and finished in May 2024 in Taiwan.
Operation Flow
Grille is a common theme element of the whole building, combined with the living habits of different users, and develops into a unique function use in their own private areas, not only the display of the field division and storage function, but also like an organic living body, connecting the daily life of the people and creating a sense of belonging.
Research
In addition to living and sleeping functions, social, office, reading and other spaces are planned according to the living situations of the elderly, adults and children. The top floor is another gathering center for the family, equipped with entertainment functions, and extends the outdoor terrace canopy plan to bring natural and casual field situations.
Inspiration
The designer uses the linear elements of the grid as a a symbol of generational continuity and expansion of the Eastern family, which grows and connects from the first floor to different floors, and then transforms into the boundaries of display, storage and compartment. Under the reflection of the mirror, it also creates a magnificent and bright sense of space, resolving the visual limitation of the height of the place.
