Interview with Lin shaobin

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I am not reading design or art related professional school. My major is computer application. Because childhood like painting, so love this related work. I understood the design career when I came to work, that I always wanted to become a designer.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
I like to solve the practical problems, but also have a certain art and aesthetics. it is better to have an unprecedented performance.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
Should be combined with new technology, new art, including multimedia. I think the design of the future should be more humane, more life.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
My personal exhibition has not yet. But more involved, the nearly one is China TDC.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
My work is inspired by life. Always encounter many interesting thins in life, including travel, design books and so on. Keep curiosity about the new things, I think this is my way to cultivate my own ideas.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
My design style biased towards traditional Chinese culture, less color, more black and white graphics. At the same time will be injected into some of the creative, so that the design is more spiritual.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I live in Shantou and Shanghai city in China. I think Chinese cultural heritage has a great impact on my design. In China, the shortcomings of the design is the generally backward aesthetic.
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
Need to understand the designer’s style and professionalism is suitable for the company’s needs.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
Generally I divided into two processes, one is in the project do not want to know too much of the case of free creation, with the feeling and adjust of need after. Another is in full accordance with the project plan step by step implementation.
Can you describe a day in your life?
Get up in the morning to wash teeth and hair, see news through the phone after breakfast. And then dressed up to go to work in the company. Continue to open the computer check whether the work of the day there is a perfect place, then go to bed.
Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
As much as possible to see more excellent design work. You can cultivate their own aesthetic and works to bring their own inspiration.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
Get the clients and consumers recognition, get the recognition of professional awards that is positives. Negatives factors are not recognized, even their own are off, not satisfied with the works.
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
Look for creative direction first, and then communicate with clients, clear the direction of the creation.
What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?

What are your future plans? What is next for you?
I hope to try more experiments to break through myself in future.
Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
I do the design for a Chinese Sichuan restaurant now. Named ‘song’ of the Song dynasty in China. Look for a lot of information for Song dynasty in the design. I personally feel that Chinese Song Dynasty is a very high level of artistic in history, I can learn a lot in it.

Which emotions do you feel when designing?
My interested of design is extensive, most like the design for culture and art.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
The good designer can finish the design better. But the great designer can spend a lifetime to love and adhere to.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
I think that is through the best way to express the needs of the project. And find the best ideal way.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Good design can make people love it and have beautiful imagination. Because the good design can show project wants to express information in the best state.
What is your day to day look like?
If I had enough time, I would make my design more refined and prefect.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
Completed a fast-selling packaging design to get the best market sales and award-winning.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
The secret is to strengthen the understanding and communication of the project and find the best design.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
For example, Alan Chen from Hong Kong, the inspiration is to be able to strike a balance between business and art.
What is your biggest design work?
The favorite design is tea packaging, because it carries culture and market demand.
Who is your favourite designer?
The current award-winning works “cloudy tea”, the illustrations I spent a long time to draw, because I have not learned painting.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
I think it is to solve the encountered difficulties for a thing, with the purpose that need to have a solution answer. For example, a product packaging, clients hope looks high-end, but the cost want to control down, can not use expensive materials, this time need used design to solve it. With reasonable material costs, but the effect is reach the purpose.
