About Masahiko Sato

Architect show Co., Ltd is the Japanese architectural firm in Fukuoka city; founded by architect Masahiko Sato in 1985. The firm has completed numerous projects ranges from residential, hotels, malls, clinics and office projects in and outside of Fukuoka city. The most significant of which is residential projects and appreciated its work by national and various international awards. The significant feature of Architect show is that it provides sophisticated wooden design and choice of variety of materials that resembles concrete building, which is not common in Japan.

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I did not have related educational background in architecture so a started studying architecture by myself and from people that have proper knowledge.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
We are a small scale firm with 5 staff based in Fukuoka City Japan
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
Ando Tadao, he is kind a figure that i admire for a very long time
What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
I always try to position myself as a future user of the end product.
What makes a design successful?
The satisfaction of its inhabitant an how it change society to better future
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
To give a proper example on how human should give consideration to the environment
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
Design in the future will be absolutely more mesmerizing, more playful and reflect the lifestyle of modern civilization
Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
When it comes to design precision comes first speed come second. Sometimes we are chased
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
I dont think there are negatives of being designer, everyone is designer of their life
What was your most important job experience?
Every experience has important value to my life, there are so many of them, and they are equally precious to me.
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
We try to expand business abroad, always looking forward for a new challange from a new client in somewhere we have never been.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I have work in this line of work for more than 30 years and designed many kind of projects including residential, commercial and hospitality in japan.
How did you become a designer?
I did not went to architecture school so i mostly learned everything by myself. working in a firm pass an examination and established my own company.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
Careful listening to what client wants and find a best solution to fit the needs.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
It is always exciting to design eachtime because each project is unique
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
Harsh education from workplace, family support, and strong motivation
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
To be able to design not in japan but many place in the world and spread inspiration.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Keep pushing the boundaries of design by making something pleasing and extraordinary.
What is your day to day look like?
Morning briefing, designing and managing the office, meeting the clients, go to the site, making each time worth living.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
I always check latest design trend via architectural websites fom all over the world.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
We always have a deadline and make every design to be done on time.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
I believe design can change society, the way how people live and appreciate aesthetic aspect of design is something interesting about design to me.

No formal architecture education, start self studying at some point.
How did you become a designer?
Was impressed at how interesting architectural could be when working at work site.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
Architectural design, not only houses, we expected to design any kind of building.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
Design that able to increase the quality of its surrounding environment
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
A design that able to satisfy its user and people around it. Good design educate people and make society have a good standard of life.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
To design not only inside japan, we want to provide our service to clients around the world.
What is your biggest design work?
I always have interest in any kind of design, regardless of what or who designed it.
Who is your favourite designer?
I house (House of horizon) The harmonization of nature and design of the building.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
Travel to many place around the world, witness and experience the plurality and endless posibilites of design.
