About Valeriano Villegas Goyos

Born in Mexico City in 1982. Graduated from La Salle University as a Mechanical Engineer in 2007, Valeriano began his career within the automotive industry in the departments of engineering and quality assurance, where he acquired knowledge and experience in product engineering, manufacturing processes and quality management. Driven by his passion for wooden furniture design, Valeriano became a self-taught furniture designer, and in 2010 he opened his own design studio in his hometown in Mexico. In 2016, he moved to Germany with the aim to share his designs and expand his experience as a product designer. Valeriano has designed a wide variety of furniture pieces such as: chairs, dining tables, coffee tables and cabinets. He has experience working with different styles, manufacturing techniques and materials. He finds inspiration on basic geometrical forms and natural materials. Sketched with symmetry and proportion, his designs are characterized by defined lines, highlighted by the natural beauty of wood. For him, wood represents the connection between society and nature. He believes that along with design and fine carpentry, it brings beauty, warmness and style into living spaces.

What is "design" for you?
Design for me is about solving people needs through imagination, creativity, and work.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide variety of styles, materials, colors, textures, shapes and with different manufacturing techniques; designing tailor made high-end furniture.

as designers, we must be aware of developing solutions that do not become problems in the future
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
I believe that design is moving towards personalization and customization, the creation of unique solutions
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
Born in Mexico in 1982, I live now in Germany, I do believe that my designs are somehow affected by the cultural heritage of Mexican roots.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
Throughout my creative process, principles of ergonomics and aesthetics go hand-to-hand with the careful selection of RAW materials and manufacturing techniques.
