Interview with Sergey Nos

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
No, I planned to be a tax specialist, but life goes to other way, and I went to advertising university.
What is "design" for you?
World around you, everything is designed by somebody, even nature.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
I think it is Onegin vodka, because it was from first sketch of bottle - to real product in shops.
When do you feel the most creative?
at sunny morning at summer, it is the best time fro creative work.
What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
Concentration at work, forgetting other problems or things around
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
I think it will be something like - dream designer or thinking process interface design. People start to design own inner world and processes.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
I call it sacral geometry, because I use simple graphic style to translate different things - letters, brand values and brand world.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I'm living in Moscow, Russia, and yes, that work was affected by heritage, because name of the brand - one of most popular Russian novel.
How do you work with companies?
Like with people, each company - is a real peoples, so I try to became a friend and understand they needs.
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
only trying different designers, because you can have name, or beautiful portfolio, but when you start to work with real brand or difficult company - you can't do your best
Can you talk a little about your design process?
I'm always start from pencil and paper. And - researching. It's important - to see what other designers do.
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
1. Bed (BoConcept) 2. Vaporiser Air-o-Swiss 3. Selfmade table for bathroom 4. Stand for knives 5. TV stand
Can you describe a day in your life?
get up, playing with kids, going to work as fast as I can, working - 6-7 hours. Them family time and going to sleep.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
Positive - you are creator Negative - you are creating client's dreams
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
by post-it stickers - always updating status of projects and dates.
What was your most important job experience?
working on Onegin - it was good professional school - from client management to pre-press skills.
Who are some of your clients?
Simple Group, largest wine company in Russia, and now - spirits manufacturer.
What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
packaging - because you can see your work, you can buy it and have a little museum at office.
Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
Myself, before I have time for all my projects - I will work alone.
Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
Armenian cognac rebranding, I thinks it is interesting, because I went deep in other culture to find main idea for concept.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I finished Moscow University of Printing Arts - that predetermined my future occupation.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
I think it was destiny. I'm always draw good, but never think about design.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
I want to specialise in alcohol packaging - from product design (label, bottle, etc.) to gift boxes and visual communication strategy.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Everyone wants beautiful and comfortable things - good design tries to do the best of the best.
What is your day to day look like?
Rebranding for Russian church, I think it needs a very good and strong identity.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
Myself branding, I'm searching everytime, all ideas not final, now it is WNK studio, last year it was WONKA Creative, so It is very hard to find best solution.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
It is fantasy. Half of my life I live in fantasy world in my mind.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
I comparing my project with other, and look how better or worse I am.
