After I graduated from the Fine Arts Academy of Southwest University in 1992, I taught in a technical secondary school. We provide integrated service package of hard decoration design, soft decoration design, purchase and execution. Our main projects are nearly everywhere domestically. Moreover, we’ve built and maintained close cooperation strings with more than ten well-known domestic real estate developers. We fully understand the value, effect of value-added, importance and influence of what we convey through our designs. Through good communication and cooperation, we can finally embody the integration of design value and business value through our designs.
What is "design" for you?
Design is an art of life, communication of thinking and emotion as well as combination of imagination and reality. It’s a journey across dreams. Design carries wishes from others but more than that, it carries our own dreams, our understanding of life and our eternal pursuit of beauty. The building process of our own design mind map represents our longing for freedom and the kind of ideal life.
What was the first thing you designed for a company?
The first design work is the Friendship City Department Store office located in Jianingna Square, Luohu District, Shenzhen.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
The first is humanistic care. Is this the space people really want? Whether they feel comfortable and pleasant in it? The second is what values design can convey. The third is what design can solve and how to carry out.
What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
Most of time, I feel the pleasure of solving a problem. It’s also a sense of confidence and accomplishment.
What makes a design successful?
I think there are the following factors: the persistence of the initial heart, the belief in you and the team, constant thinking and argument, maintaining the spirit of innovation, and the deep understanding of the essence and system of design.
When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
The quality of the work I will focus on the idea of the work itself through the space and the inner feelings. First of all, I think the atmosphere that the space can convey must be comfortable; secondly, the space must have a certain level of maturity and control over the overall control; many designers are able to design in the local space is very colorful, but the overall There is a slight lack of control, so the integration of space as a whole is also one of the criteria for judging.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
In addition to creating commercial value, design should have true social value. In a low-carbon, environmentally-friendly environment, design should focus on health and a comfortable space atmosphere to create and lead this lifestyle; because the purpose of low-carbon environmental protection is also for a healthier way of life, it is the designer's basic professionalism that begins with the selection of the material environment.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
The development of the industry is closely linked with everyone. We must consider not only the current business system, but also pay more attention to the value of the future design passed to society. As a designer, we must have a forward-looking vision to lead the development of the industry. Facing customer's need to convey a better idea and surpass the space imagined by customers, this concept is exactly where we can get value. In this era, everyone must be prepared to face the challenge. Only in this way can there be a future. If you use traditional thinking to insist on something, it is very likely that you will collapse. Whether it is design competitions or commercial projects, the value and significance of his existence, in this system, can not be underestimated in the development of the industry.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
The last exhibition was the Shenzhen Fashion Home Design Week and the 32nd Shenzhen International Furniture Fair in March last year. We designed a work based on the theme of "Jiyi" to be displayed at the Design Showcase of the 5th Hall of the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center. Next, at the 24th China International Furniture Fair held in Shanghai in September this year, we designed a series of modern Chinese furniture products, which is also part of our diversified development.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
Music and travel. The inspiration my music brings to me is everywhere. I have a work habit that must include music when we are conceiving a design plan. I am particularly quiet and cannot think of anything. Folk songs, jazz and some lyrical songs are my favorites, so if there is a designer at work in our company, music will never stop. It gives me a job that is to enjoy the comfort of life.Traveling is the process of reading, and there are feelings of gaining and thinking. In other words, travel is also a charging process. Only electric power is constantly updated to prevent it from collapsing.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
The design is first of all a commercial design. For me personally, I never define myself as a designer who can only do certain styles. Constantly challenging myself and constantly exploring and trying to integrate Chinese and Western cultures in modern times, giving the design contemporary language, I think it is a good design. Recently, we have done a series of new Chinese-style and traditional Chinese-style exhibition spaces for commercial themes. We have interpreted and designed the subject from our own perspective and point of view. If we can bring a point to the surface and convey the geographical, cultural, artistic, and sensibility in the design work and convey the aesthetics and mood of Oriental life aesthetics, it is a tribute to the style of Chinese culture.Design style is a kind of feeling. It is the recognition and definition of others. It is necessary to define the style in your own way. The style that I understand is not a copy. The style is for me, it is only a form of expression. Learning from each other in several different styles, I will not walk, but will give me different inspiration and creativity. This is precisely the success of our works, which is delicate and connotative, and emphasizes the inner depth of the works.Designers need a strong comprehensive ability, and this is exactly what our company's strengths are. Often large-scale project complexes, from the facade, hotels, apartments, residential design needs a systematic design company can be fully grasped, vision, small point of view, the dynamic feeling of space in the first place In order to interpret the design from the perspective of an interior architect, the character of different fields will be embarrassed, and it will be easy to handle.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I am a Chinese designer. Chinese culture is extensive and profound. It has a long history and a rich regional culture. We can draw on the borrowing and design of historical contexts. We can say that our heritage resources are inexhaustible, but the traditional Oriental The internationalization of culture is obviously insufficient. The world language must first be internationalized. The fusion of Eastern and Western cultures can really make our design go to a larger stage and get more people's approval.
How do you work with companies?
I am the founder of the company. The goal is to create value through design. As a commercial project, we seek common ground while reserving differences and ultimately achieve maximum commercial value.
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
Regardless of age, regardless of group, as a designer should have two capabilities. First is the ability to learn, Second is to explore the spirit. Design is a matter of life, and there must be awe and compassion for design. In the ever-changing period of the times, every day is new and design changes every day. Therefore, each of us must keep learning, so that the chance of designing value creation will be greatly improved.Through a topic test, communication skills, design techniques, skills, and software mastery, including design experience, are criteria by which we can judge outstanding designers.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
How to break through and combine its own aesthetic value with commercial value; how to combine technology, art, and current people's lifestyles and interesting expressions is the focus we always focus on.The theme of the design project is a process from deconstruction of space to the sublimation of art. It includes the analysis and deduction of business requirements, customer psychology, marketing strategies, situational concepts, and aesthetic conception. It balances multiple relationships between the two. Selecting a point to break through and zoom in is not only to highlight the focus, but also to return the design to its original heart and regain the original concept of design.
Can you describe a day in your life?
My daily life starts from the exercise and I swim for 40 minutes to maintain my best condition. The day of my life is in the morning. I will clean up my day's work priorities before I do design every day, and then I will read information and a quarter of the time. News, of course, often enters the independent thinking and creative mode at night. Each weekend I will have one day to empty myself and play golf with design partners.
Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
The design industry is a traditional industry. I hope that designers can have a better understanding of design and form their own ways and attitudes to deal with things. They have been passed down on any enterprise platform. Nowadays, the craftsmanship is something that many of our designers lack now. If everybody has this kind of attitude, I believe that everything you do can be done well, and you don’t care which position you are in, as long as you have this spirit and Attitude, I believe that you must be an outstanding person in the future and you will surely find your best development direction.
What is your "golden rule" in design?
Nowadays, interior design gradually develops into an increasingly integrated, rich and delicate system. The scope of thinking must extend from what we often call “hard-mounting” to the art of furnishings in the “soft-packing” space, so as to achieve the integration of hard and soft installations. "Degree. This determines that the designer should master the golden rule of aesthetics in design, and prudently consider the design system. The considerations of dimensions, colors, textures, furniture, lighting fixtures, accessories, etc. of space not only include the echoes of various blocks and lines in the overall space, but also create a “point” in the space. . All these scenes involving lights, furniture, works of art, and daily necessities, whether large or small, or compact or soothing, have been given distinctive personality characteristics, highlighting different life interests. From these dramatic plots, the designer's thinking transcends the previous categories and can further respond to and take care of the details, aesthetics, and psychological activities of people's lives.
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
I work as a design director and manager. In general, I may use two-thirds of the time to design, conceive, and discuss the design plan. One-third of the time is spent discussing the company content department with the heads of various departments. The problem of management mechanism is that working hours are about ten hours a day.
Who are some of your clients?
It is mainly real estate developers, investors, entrepreneurs and private owners.

Designer of the Day Interview with Yanming Yin

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
As the pioneer in Shenzhen in the field of interior design.I have applied my experience to designs in diverse universe including hotel, commercial real estate, office space and architecture facades. We innovate diverse developing paths of exhibition, product design, furniture design and non-profit design according to the extended concept of Big Design. Our main projects are nearly everywhere domestically. Moreover, we’ve built and maintained close cooperation strings with more than ten well-known domestic real estate developers.
How did you become a designer?
After I graduated from the Fine Arts Academy of Southwest University in 1992, I taught at a technical secondary school. After that, I worked as a graphic designer, a newspaper editor, and an effect drawing hand-painted teacher. Later I went to a Hong Kong company for more than five years. As a Chinese Mesozoic designer, I chose this industry, no regrets, because it brought me not only a job, but also a glory. With the trust and respect of customers, design also truly conveys aesthetic values and leads the way of life.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
At the beginning of the design phase, I tend to collect project information, conduct background research, and find relevant and meaningful point extensions and lateral thinking; at this stage, I will draw sketches from a large number of hand-drawn, from the flat layout to the facade stage Find out the relationship, and strive to make space design and dynamic line complement each other, through multiple perspectives to find out the concept and expression of the project, this time everything becomes simple and smooth.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
Design is a painful and happy process. It was the most exciting and expectation when it was commissioned to design a project, but the process of creation was not easy, because every designer wanted to make breakthroughs and constantly introduce new ones, but the time or cost of some projects may be constrained. In your thinking process, there will be more pressure for restraint; the process of design completion is a release process, and the happiness is more about the expectation and full expectation of the upcoming implementation of the project.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
My personal qualifications and professionalism have greatly helped me become a designer. At the Normal University, we were exposed to the expertise of different art disciplines and cultivated a strong comprehensive ability. However, the sensitivity to form and aesthetics made me have more unique understanding and pursuit of the project. More than five years of solid project training eventually led to the formation of a flexible design thinking model and a professional design system.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
The design industry is a traditional industry. I hope that designers can have a better understanding of design and form their own ways and attitudes to deal with things. They have been passed down on any enterprise platform. Nowadays, the craftsmanship is something that many of our designers lack now. If everybody has this kind of attitude, I believe that everything you do can be done well, and you don’t care which position you are in, as long as you have this spirit and Attitude, I believe that you must be an outstanding person in the future and you will surely find your best development direction.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Regardless of age, regardless of group, as a designer should have two capabilities: First, the ability to learn; second, to explore the spirit. News, of course, often enters the independent thinking and creative mode at night. Each weekend I will have one day to empty myself and play golf with design partners.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
The quality of the work I will focus on the idea of the work itself through the space and the inner feelings. First of all, I think the atmosphere that the space can convey must be comfortable; secondly, the space must have a certain level of maturity and control over the overall control; many designers are able to design in the local space is very colorful, but the overall There is a slight lack of control, so the integration of space as a whole is also one of the criteria for judging.
What is your biggest design work?
The transformation of the facade of Shenzhen Art DesignCcenter has implemented the first, second, third and fourth phases of the project with the concept of cube. It has created an influential value system from both the design and business models. In 2016 I designed and donated the public welfare project The Third Space Yuxi Hewai Primary School in Yunnan Province, from the building to the indoor space integration, the entire design from the form and history of the cultural context of the same strain, for the rural children to create a free space to release the soul.Chengdu Vanke New Park Villa House project is an exploration of our concept of new Chinese style design and art integration system. This project won the 2017 SBID International Interior Design Award, the German Design Award Special Mention and the Kinpan Awards Best Villa Space of the Year. We opened up the way to look at designing and researching Chinese-style works, and we constantly introduce new ones.
Who is your favourite designer?
My favorite designer is American architect Wright. He has similarities in the use of graphics and the cosmic view of life and the oriental aesthetics. This unity of man and nature is a state that I hope works can present. There is also a Berlin Jewish Museum designer Daniel Libeskind who inspired me. In April last year, I visited the Museum of Jewish History for the second time. In Libeskind's deconstructionist application, I found that he organically combined the rhythm of music with the symbiosis of architectural forms, and that Libeskin himself was a musical genius from childhood. His achievements in piano are not. In the field of building construction, its visually powerful architecture and interior space form fully reflect the extension and connotation of the design. It also allows us to once again realize the deeper expression of the phrase building is solidified music. The combination of art will give us more unlimited possibilities for designing the future.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
China has a vast area, great differences between North and South, and rich regional culture. Taking Shenzhen as an example, Shenzhen is a city of design, a cutting-edge representative city, and a place of concentration for design concepts and talents. Through this window of Shenzhen, we are in line with the world, constantly updating our thinking in a diversified information age and enriching our own design strategies. The new understanding of the future is more important than wealth, which is where the power source and the target are.The inspiration my music brings to me is everywhere. I have a work habit that must include music when we are conceiving a design plan. I am particularly quiet and cannot think of anything. Folk songs, jazz and some lyrical songs are my favorites, so if there is a designer at work in our company, music will never stop. It gives me a job that is to enjoy the comfort of life.
