Interview with Si Li

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I started learning painting at the age of ten and influenced by my father. These artistic atmosphere made me an artist.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
Our studio is a visually oriented design company, mainly studying and designing traditional Chinese art.
What is "design" for you?
My design focuses on Chinese tradition and expresses the respect and inheritance of tradition with different design techniques.
What was the first thing you designed for a company?
The first thing to do for a company is to design the company's logo.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
I pay more attention to the feelings that design brings to people.
When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
Design should be neither good nor bad, as long as the emotional expression is in line with the rules, it seems to me that it is a good design.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
It suggests that the public's aesthetic will make people's life more convenient.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
The development of design is the inexorable trend of human development. The future design will change the life we know.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
The latest exhibition, of course, is Como, and there is no plan yet.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
Generally speaking, my style of design is national characteristics, mainly excavating something of national culture.
How do you work with companies?
Cooperation with the company will start and do after the establishment of a regular contract.
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
The first is the identity of the concept of value and the thinking of design.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
My design work, first of all, is the process of gathering inspiration, looking for topics in life experiences, looking for materials that can be used in the design from these topics and applying them to design.
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
They are: 1. China's 3. travel design, which was born on the 2. tongue of China.
Can you describe a day in your life?
Designers usually do this one day: get up at 8 in the morning, arrive at the company at 9, and deal with mail between 10-11. At 1 p.m., we began to design and create inspiration, and the 3-5 point was to carry out the design. After 7, I will read some design books and news after work. 10 rest
Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
What I admire most is the designer of Taiwan, Nie Yongzhen/Design, like personality, must make its own characteristics.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
I think the positive thing is to design the sense of essence, and the negative is to design blindly commercialization.
Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
Traditional tools include materials used in painting, and ps/ai/3d software commonly used in modern times.
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
For the pure creation part, I usually give enough time, but in part of the design part, I will work out the design stage schedule and strictly follow this execution.
What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
The most common problem is the conjunction between creation and practice.
What was your most important job experience?
At the beginning of my work, I entered a creative company and learned the importance of free expression and personality.
What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
I most like the design of free proposition. Generally, such a project is to grasp the initiative instead of being led by the customer.
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
The plan for the future is to do well in the transformation of the company sumvisual and other areas beyond design.
Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
The project currently being done by Ali family members of Alibaba is an annual gift. We made a gift box that conveyed thanks to all Alibaba staff.
