Interview with Jay Qian

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I am a master of industrial design candidate at Pratt Institute. The pursuit of making some unique when I was a child made me become an industrial designer.
What makes a design successful?
For the users, it is easy to use and love to use.For the society, it has a positive impact and sustainable life circle.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
I will visit different kinds of museums to feed my creativity. Also, I love nature which always inspires me a lot!
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I was born in Shanghai, but now I am living in NewYork City. I love both of them.
What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
I really enjoy designing the transportation design. To be an automobile designer is my dream.
