Interview with SATORU NAKAHARA

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
Now I think I'm an artist who likes photographs and announces my works on the website. But In the near future, I want to be an artist who can display my works at the private exhibition and photographic inventory, every possible means. And became a photo designer with my style for realizing and forming the client's demand.
What is "design" for you?
Design is the image of inspiration with spring up from within. And that is intensifying to the most simple message that forming and refining with his ideal and way of life, the client's images and demands.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
Photo albums and works, Self-portrait, Promotion works, CD jacket, Everything on earth and time
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn wokrs, Johannes Vermeer works,Mr.Micheal Kenna's all his photo works. Mr.Michael’s all Haneke Works.
What was the first thing you designed for a company?
Hearing to withdraw their demands and images for looking to their future.
When do you feel the most creative?
It is the time when the light expression my envision comes out and when I was able to reproduce the inspiration inside.
What makes a design successful?
To find the most beautiful time and composition are hidden in the subject and to concrete or shaping them.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
From now on, one of the design fields is that the merging with human and nature, the universe
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
I have not had my exhibition. But if it is possible, I would like to have it in the cool season.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
Taking a picture considering the composition of light and shadow. Feeling like drawing a picture while taking a picture and changing the exposure.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I live in Numazu near Mt.fuji in Japan. Our cultural heritage has eternity with thoughts of those who lived that time. I would like to express and shape it in my works.
How do you work with companies?
Contact by Email and online web meeting. if I can go to companies and clients, I would like to go to their office to talk and taking photos of their images.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
1)Outside or inside taking a photo when I feel the light is beautiful. 2)In this time considering the composition of light and shadow. 3)Changing the exposure with feeling like drawing a picture.

Can you describe a day in your life?
When I wake up, I feel light. Next to going to my workplace, I feel the air. When the sun goes down, I enjoy the last light. Last I appreciate all before going to bed. That everyday life is the repetition of my life
Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
Please don't be afraid of being different and express what you feel as you want to. I would like to feel and learn many things about your works.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
Life is long and short. So as intellectual curiosity goes, make yourself comfortable simply. Evaluation is decided by others.
What is your "golden rule" in design?
Can you feel the feeling and atmosphere of that time from the work?
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
I think it is possible. In the morning time and night time is my creative time. And holiday and long vacation time are the same.
How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
It is a very short time. Perhaps within 30 minutes. Because it was my family photo in the Maldives.
What was your most important job experience?
All. My works and Job, Family travel, All of them are opportunities to get inspired and the encounter between light and beauty.
What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
photography and pictures, movies. Because I can enjoy the works of any time and overtime.
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
I want to open a solo exhibition and to go to the world to take a picture.
Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
I keep taking pictures and want to renew the website and enhance it. Next to my theme to express myth and eternal time inside my works.

Designer of the Day Interview with SATORU NAKAHARA

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I have not been a designer as a profession yet. I have created works as an individual. But in the future, I want to be a professional designer and artist.
How did you become a designer?
I originally liked photography and art, design. When I think of my life, I wanted to live my life according to my intellectual curiosity. I feel most calm when I'm creative. So I want to get involved in the field of design and art with creativity and curiosity that is springing up inside of me.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
In this works, I was pursuing a casual scene of everyday life with the composition of light and black. And it is made it happen by the technology and devices that anyone can get it simply. My next project is to design an entity that transcends time and space with the composition of black and white, light.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
Now in my works, the first impression and image remain in my mind when I wake up in bed. When I could only take pictures as my perfect for the image with the camera, I forget the time and am fascinated and I feel and appreciate that subject. Last I Intuitioed achieve my works as a design when the existence floats in the most beautiful shape inside my computer.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
I think it's a way of looking and interpreting for all things. In addition, I think it's awe to the things and existence that everyone can see but not notice. I was influenced by Mr.Ken Domon and Mr.Micheal Kenna, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Leonardo da Vinci. I respected. My design journey is just beginning for getting closer to these respected artists. So now I feel like a student just started learning frankly.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
If I wish, I want to stay carefully in one historical and mythical town-city and take pictures. And I want to hold a solo exhibition. Now I want to express the existence of a beautiful time in Japan. So I'm designing works to opens solo exhibitions not only the exhibition of works also the space in Japan. I have uploaded my work on only my blog, but I have not been able to pursue the printed beauty this is also an issue. 
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
Believing in your own inquiry and intellectual curiosity. The future will come over time. To feel and thank the existence of sending it every day.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
All designed works are beautiful. Really I think so. However, the work I can respect is the work of people involved in the design when I felt love inside. I like such works and want to aim it every time and every day, everywhere.
What is your day to day look like?
I have a job to live a life. However, I design on holidays. Especially when the weather is about to collapse or when the light is weak, my heart flutters a little. That is minimal light to make the background and composition that I want to design.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
I may be going backwards. I'm ignorant of trends, but I want to feel the times and the flow of time from my target.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
Is there a composition of light and color that makes the existence look most beautiful? Did the story and image start moving originally in your mind?
How do you decide if your design is ready?
When I can feel the existence of my works, I tell the end of one time and want to move on to the next works and design.
What is your biggest design work?
This my works are included the most important family pictures. Pictures taken when spending time with family are always important. Now, I'm starting the new works and take pictures of the existence that standing unknowingly by anyone in Japan. Next to my project is the design of the Japanese "Yugen." My heart is excited to inquire from cultural and historical art and photography and academics.
Who is your favourite designer?
Mr.Micheal Kenna, Mr.Ken Domon and Rembrandt, Vermeer, Leonardo da Vinci. I respected all.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
I like Japan and my hometown. With this award, I have come to aware of I was able to notice the one eternal existence we respected and valued for a long time. And I have been in Europe in recent years and even years. It feels particularly strong in European countries too, it is the same that it exists everywhere and timeless.
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
I work alone. First, I think it is necessary to have a discussion to share each other's image and feeling of beauty.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
I want people to notice a presence and existence standing quietly in their town by my works. If I do that, I think people will value their life and family, town more. It is my pleasure and hope.
What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?
By this award, I am anew that I'm still immature. But I have taken one first great step for the design of life. My creativity is very exciting now. For this honorable award and family, the presence that was reflected in my works, I appreciate all of the things. 

Extended Interview with SATORU NAKAHARA

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
20 years ago, I got a master's degree and has worked as an elementary teacher. But I l likes photography and movie, photo works, design works, Art. In every aspect and works, My concern about life is to pursue creativity and humanity.
How did you become a designer?
It is too simple, that is the pursuit of beauty. It is from my request inside. When I took pictures and changing the exposure, I have filled the pleasure.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
I have not chosen to become a designer. I have to work to feed my family and my daughters. So I decided to work as parallel works. These give me thoughtfulness warmth and of humans.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
It is the pursuit of the expression of "Yugen.” This word is one expression of Japanese culture and art. It can not be translated exactly. The closest word is "Mysterious." I want to design and express by taking photos with all tools everywhere and all over the world.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
I think you chose any target and any job, tools, you should feel the true nature of human and life from every works and design works, artworks.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
It can be interpreting from background their philosophy and feeling the warm eyes of their works. And for a client's demands and though, the designer how he can design in his good faith and whole body.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
For their design works, to express their thoughts, how the designer could reduce the waste and sophisticate in his works.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Challenging to areas that humanity has not reached. Because that is the essential desire of humans.
What is your day to day look like?
In a virtual space, I want to create an art museum where anyone in the world can enjoy works in three dimensions.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
Taking a picture of an object that is standing quietly for a long time around the world and creating work.  And with Japanese "Yugen" and "Wa colors" I would like to design and produce the works.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
Learning hermeneutics, history, and culture, difference in the aesthetic sense, and comparing them eastern and western.
Who is your favourite designer?
It harmonizes of art and photography. It is not digital art and digital photography. And it works on the home by using tools that can be used, everyone.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
I have repeatedly searched for comfortable points. It was a series of trial and error, and it was also an accidental discovery.
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
Like a professional soccer player or the person making delicious liquor, I can pursue artistry with your own physical expressions and works. But any time, any place, I want to be one creator. 
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
Acting according to one's intellectual curiosity and aesthetic sense. Quest for ultimate humanity.
What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?
None. Only my family's support. They gave me time to works free from housework.
