I ‘am part of a design consultant where our team consists of young, creative, dynamic and highly motivated peoples who are passionate of turning into a creative design and materialized it into real end results. We always make sure that our designs and services gave a positive impacts for our clients, ourselves, and also for the society. In this particular project, we applied an eclectic theme where modern office and traditional Javanese culture merge. This way we can introduce our culture to more broad international audience. We listened to what our clients needs and we combined that with combined it with our best ideas to deliver maximum quality. We also always give touches of our traditional culture.

Interview with Arkadia Works

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?

I really enjoy the feeling of a well planned space. Everything has a purpose.

Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

Arkadia Works is a professional design firm founded on the belief that ideas and skilled craftsmanship are essential in enriching people's lives. Arkadia Works provide finest quality, excellent service, punctuality and partnership during the entire project.

What is "design" for you?

It is something that has a purpose and functionality for its user combined with a great aesthetic.

What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?

My latest work on the Concentrix office in Yogyakarta, Indonesia is currently my favourite one. Because we managed to incorporated the feel and look of a traditional Javanese with the touch of modern style office.

What is your favorite material / platform / technology?

Natural material such as the black andesite stones that I used for the reception desk on Concenctrix

What makes a design successful?

When the user is happy with the result. And has a meaningful functionality for its user(s).

From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

As a designer we are responsible to make the things that we designed has a greater purpose for enriching people's lives.

How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

The design style at the moment is challenged with the limited amount of space meanwhile with the "new normal" it is mandatory to has that safe distancing from one and another.

Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

Indonesia. Yes the culture of where I live definitely effected the style. Pros : There are many traditional elements and materials that can be combined with modern theme. Cons : If we are unable to find that perfect balance between the two, the end result would be not great.

What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?

Companies should know whether or not the designer still has space to grow, fit the company culture, and has the knowledge of what currently and future design will be.

Understand the brief and requirements, study the limitations, concept, and deliver

Can you describe a day in your life?

Starts with a light breakfast, a bit exercise, going to work, hangout with friends before going back. home.

Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?

Embrace the styles or challenges that maybe you are not comfortable with. Through that you will gain more knowledge that sometime you don't think you know.

From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?

Positive : We know how to make things better Negative : We tend to overthinks how a design should be made.
