Interview with MASOUD SERATI NOURI

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I have always been looking for design as well as architectural design to create a new space in it. With the old structures and patterns, I continued the same view in jewelry, and perhaps much broader than architecture.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
My studio works more in the field of jewelry design and has always sought to produce better forms and works, and this goal can not be achieved without daily research and acquisition of skills and daily learning, which I always pursue.
What is "design" for you?
Design for me is the creation of a new form with a permanent use, more communication with the user in all respects, often inspired by everyday life with the aim of improving human daily life as well as combining art with other fields of the humanities.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
According to my research, most artistic personalities in all fields are interested in design. I am no exception and I am interested in designs such as architecture, lighting design, car design, charcoal and pencil design. I do them at the same time.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
Jewelry design has been of special interest for several years, and I continue it with the aim of forming a manufacturing industry.
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
I am interested in gold materials and conventional production technologies, but I am trying to use other materials as well as new technologies.
When do you feel the most creative?
Standing up to the challenges of human life and thinking about them has always opened the way for me.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
I consider only the human aspect with the aim of elevating human life.
What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
Indescribable inner joy that I have never experienced in anything in my life.
What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
I think I have raised a child who has great missions and is supposed to send a message of freedom to the whole world.
What makes a design successful?
This is a wide-ranging discussion, but if I go into it very briefly, I must say that considering human existence and her emotions in design will certainly have a good result.
When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
I will definitely think about the seed of design and the process in which I produced the design and I will review it to gather more results for myself.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
In my opinion, from an atmospheric point of view, the important task of designers is to try their best to produce environmentally friendly products, and also in terms of responsibility towards society, I must say that given the chaotic political situation in the world, the message of peace must be conveyed. All plans are institutionalized.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
Basically, in my opinion, the world trend is no longer predictable, but without a doubt, incredible progress will happen to the extent of miracles.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
I did not have an exhibition before, but from now on I have decided to work more internationally and to be active in most countries as much as possible and to bring art to the attention of everyone.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
I try to be inspired by human nature and emotions, and if I may say everything that is natural and related to human nature.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
I am very interested in designing with soft lines and pages because I believe that the charm, beauty and excitement that soft design brings to human beings is definitely a feeling hidden in human beings that when they see that design, the same feeling awakens.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I live in Iran, which I have undoubtedly been greatly influenced by, because we have a rich culture and art, all of which have their own complexity that must be discovered. I have also benefited a lot from these hidden and visible angles of this art.
How do you work with companies?
By introducing my art and explaining my opinion about design and art, as well as their jewelry, I assure them of pure work and try to work with them until the last moment to produce better work.
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
In my opinion, after measuring the designer's skill in design, they should trust him and give enough time to the designer to present the design, because design is in conflict with allocating time. The designer's mind should not be involved in the stress of running out of time.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
Imagining the plan from all angles and being alone with yourself away from everyday life is the first and best step to start working, which is followed by studies and research to create a proper form.
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
Comfort, beauty, usability, minimalism and away from luxuries, as well as its ergonomic design.
Can you describe a day in your life?
Reading books and other hobbies is a small part of daily life after sleep, but most of the daily hours are spent on design studies and self-design.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
Given my strong interest in design, I can not really say anything negative, and on the other hand, there are important points, one of which is that we are responsible to people and we must be more and more active in improving their living conditions. This is just one positive thing about being a designer.
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
Due to my interest in design, I focus on it a lot and try to reach other things in the next stage and in the little time I have left.
How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
In my opinion, this really depends on the concept of the subject of the work, but I will definitely try to reach a conclusion as soon as possible and present the final work. سخعقزث
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
Expanding work in the field of design and cooperation with brands is my priority and also creating more communication is one of my special interests.
Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
I had experience working in a team and I also work as an individual and as a team, depending on the working conditions.
Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
I am active in most competitions, except for work for customers, which I hope will be published and available to everyone after winning.

Designer of the Day Interview with MASOUD SERATI NOURI

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
My experience in designing traveled a rough path, but in the end I reached the result I wanted. After the end of the Corona pandemic, I moved to Istanbul and at the same time as I started my master's degree in interior design, I also expanded my experience in jewelry and learned many trainings that I was able to attract the opinion of the great designers of this city.
How did you become a designer?
I discovered my interest in design since I was a teenager. Accordingly, I chose the field of architecture in the university. After working in this field for ten years, I entered the field of jewelry design to expand my experiences and personal growth. Now, I am studying in Istanbul. And I am working on making jewelry in my atelier. My jewelry consists of precious decorative stones that are cut both inside and outside.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
Designing jewelry decorated with precious and colored stones was the field that I studied in Istanbul, cutting stones into desired shapes for use in jewelry is now my specialty.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
It can be said that this feeling cannot be expressed in words, everyone should follow the path of discovery and intuition. I mostly design by being immersed in my fantasy world, which naturally consists of culture, experiences, interests, past and many concepts, and based on this, the form and language of the work is formed in the final stage.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
The painting that I have been interested in since I was a teenager.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
Participating in international exhibitions, including the Vicenza and Hong Kong jewelry fairs, is one of my plans, and naturally, other important exhibitions. Playing with colors and stones as well as exploring new ways of designing and making jewelry has always been my favorite subject and I am looking to continue it now. Another of my plans is to study academically in this field, another one of my plans in the coming years, which I decide to continue in Italy.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
Strengthening imagination and manual design, then being equipped with new software and digital systems.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Only one sentence is enough in this context and that sentence: focus on your interest and equip yourself with the tools that will lead you to your goal.
What is your day to day look like?
Naturally, starting work in the workshop is the beginning of my day, but before going to the workshop, I try to read an article related to jewelry. These days, I am very busy learning about sales and management, which is becoming more complicated every day. As I mentioned in the above questions, sales management training and organization management is one of the things that designers should be equipped with.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
In my opinion, with the expansion of the digital world and, of course, the expansion of the tastes of the people of the world and the complexity of everything, there is no such thing as a trend anymore, of course, if there is, I would rather be a trendsetter than a trend follower. I believe in my design style and the originality of the design, the trend is a kind of expansion of the way of thinking, which is basically temporary, but the original design is stable and lasting.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
In my specialized field, which is jewelry, if I want to comment, I must say that the innovation in the form and concept of jewelry, as well as the visual appeal of the work so as to arouse the audience and their feelings, have brought the work close to good design to a large extent.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
If I am satisfied with a plan, then I will end that plan. This satisfaction is the combination of different issues: reaching the concept I had in mind, coordinating the form and the concept so that the form has the power to express the concept, and of course, an inner feeling is also involved in this stage. At this moment, when I am answering this question, I have several half-finished designs that I have not been able to complete due to not being satisfied with their forms, and I am still tinkering and designing.
What is your biggest design work?
The luxuriate ring is very sacred to me, I have a good feeling about it, and it won awards in all competitions, that's why I can say that it is valuable to me, but a special and exquisite design that I will unveil at the Istanbul 2024 exhibition and is currently being made. I consider it my best work.
Who is your favourite designer?
Valance Chan, in one word, consists of innovation and beauty and a new language of jewelry design.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
Iran's culture, history, and art have always existed in my intellectual background, however, due to the cultural closeness I have with the people of Turkey, after my migration, I was greatly influenced by the city of Istanbul and its beauty. Preparing for the Istanbul 2024 exhibition and unveiling new designs and of course the designs that win international competitions are on my agenda in this period of time.
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
Undoubtedly, working alone in today's world cannot be a good answer and option. I do the initial designs alone and alone, but the continuation of the work is a joint product of several artists. The speed of today's complex world does not allow us to work individually, and we are constantly forced to systematize, which, of course, we wish it wasn't like this and the work would be out of Hermand's hands.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
In general, I can say that the goal of my life is to live well by helping the society, and wherever this opportunity arises, I will do it to the best of my ability. At the very least, I consider it my duty to introduce the art of my country to the world.
What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?
Participating in this competition and winning two prizes in the jewelry section was a launching pad for me, which even caused me to migrate and expand my thoughts and enlarge my world.
