Profession in Interior Design to handle client’s requirement with creativity input. Jack Lim believe that design is about communicating feelings through visual sensations and unique experiences. Good design makes a product useful. Good design emphasizes the usefulness of a product whilst disregarding anything that could possibly detract from it. Good design is aesthetic. The aesthetic quality of a product is integral to its usefulness because products that using every day affect the person and their well-being.

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I’m Jack graduated from Lim Kok Wing University in Bachelor of Interior Architecture, currently work in Interior Plus Group Sdn Bhd as Head of Division in Interior Design Department. Profession in Interior Design to handle client’s requirement with creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes and design is knowing which ones to keep.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
Interior Plus Group Sdn Bhd are platform with 5 subsidiary company to build strong connection of proper interior design company firm. 5 subsidiary company comes with Marketing, Interior Design, Smart home, Home décor, and IT company for big data purpose. Being Interior Plus Group Head of division position, to take in charge of all kind of scope as in charges of sale’s target, design contribution, team management, operation and project management.
What is "design" for you?
Design can mean whatever you want it to mean to you. Design is about communicating feelings through visual sensations and unique experiences. As human beings, we buy our favorite products in part because of how they make us feel. People don't just want products that work, they want to feel happy while using them
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
Approaching client, make their dream house come true. At the same time enjoy the handover moment, when client have a smile on their face.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
Contemporary style of decorating is defined by simplicity, subtle sophistication, deliberate use of texture, and clean lines. Interiors tend to showcase space rather than things. Things that are modern and current with the styles of the moment are contemporary style.
What was the first thing you designed for a company?
A condominium located in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia at 2000 square feet.
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
Wood, metal and glass is my favorite materials. Favorite platform would be the well known interior design platform - Malaysia Institute Interior Design (MIID) which give interior designers in the Malaysia market more spaces and improvements. Technology that I personally prefer would be smart function fixture that can improve more on the desire and lifestyle of everyone.
When do you feel the most creative?
The guide to the most influential interior designers for some serious redecoration inspiration for your home.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
The most aspects of design we do focus more during design are details and simplified the whole structure and elements.
What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
Felt great while could achieve something that required by others.
What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
The best thing while the designs are realized which’s satisfied.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
Design and create things that practical and functional that fits to every individual.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
The future of design from our perspective are more to personal souls and emotion that could actually input into the spaces of living.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
We do not had exhibition at the moment and yes, we are expecting to have the event soon.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
The source of inspiration is from top’s designer and from other country’s culture of design
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
I personally do not have any specific design style. The main characteristic of me is what the space has and to input the overall idea according to my client’s requirement.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I live in Malaysia and yes, Malaysia comes with 3 main religions and it provide me more space for thinking different religion and behavior to achieve every aspect of design.
How do you work with companies?
We work closely as a team with a lot of positive communications.
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
The suggestion is simple, everyone must take off their thought and start from empty to think the main object of requirement together.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
My design process is simple, workout many object of space planning, input the design and concept that required.
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
1. TV console come with feature wall 2. Kitchen cabinets 3. Walk in closet 4. Study table and storage cabinets 5. Bed head feature
Can you describe a day in your life?
Challenging as there’s tones of upcoming work and coordination to work close with
Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
Who have firmly cemented themselves as authorities in the genre. However, for every well-established designer, there’s also a fresh face building momentum
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
The advantages are can make decent money, use of creative and analytical brain parts, and appreciation of your work. The disadvantages are design is subjective, everyone thinks it’s an easy job and competitive job.
What is your "golden rule" in design?
Creating layers, make spaces practical, choose the right object with the right sense and come out of the shades.
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
As much as it is time consuming, doing something that you are passionate at is it a daily routine of yours.
What was your most important job experience?
Site coordination, communication with vendors to produce the outcome as per my expectation.
What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
Contemporary, Zen and Minimalist, as they do combine while with each other that to achieve different concept and style.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
6 Years being as an Interior Designer with the same company after I’ve graduated from Lim Kok Wing University. Handover more than 30 projects up to date and the best thing I ever appreciate is that clients appreciate me implementing their lifestyle into the space and design.
How did you become a designer?
Becoming an Interior designer are inspired from my past life experience as I’m person that always thought of crazy idea, draw things that doesn’t exists and building models trying to create something special, it’s fun and challenging while combining all into one.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
Three most important rules to prior, technique and style when designing. First always listen to audience and see what actually they are looking for to the spaces, second to digest and combine of what we got in our mind to create what’s best needed to fulfil, third to present with the flow according to their style, thought and achieved the idea of needed.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
The most exciting and challenging moment while designing projects are always come with lots of opinions and ideas from different parties and if you manage to combine all the ideas into masterpiece, that is how you enjoy the moment while achieving the best outcome and everyone give applause to the design.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
Always listen and digest before you come out with an idea, it could help to workout the idea and thoughts to give the best solution for the desire design from different aspects.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
Personal growth path would probably be one of the top listed Interior Designer in Southeast Asia that could help other designer to improve their skills and designs. Definitely own a dream house out of my imagination and build from scratch which able to fit in my lifestyle and soul.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
I would probably advice them apart from self learning, think out of the box and go as far as it could to come out with crazy idea that had never been done. Anyhow while into reality, it must be challenging while crazy idea are always attach with a lots of error and mistake even cost, but never give up learning and keep going into deep to achieve your ideas.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
The best practice and principles in being an Interior Designer are always a good listener, take away your selfishness and aggressiveness as it never help you to improve anything in your work or even life path.
What is your day to day look like?
Always list down my tasks, ideas in advance before the next day or elsewhere you could never come out with the best idea. The little happy or excitement thought out the workday which’s you completed all your pending task and finally you can enjoy the moment of thinking ideas.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
Keep updated on trend are always the right choices as ideas always come from inspiration or so called references, and somehow it could boost your own design idea that helps a lot for your own goods and knowledge to throw it all out for future.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
Good design always come with good emotions and overall ambience which makes your feel emotions something but that is what next level of design and idea. Never go into intends mode as it never helps you to get what’s best design or even achieve what others needed. The main criteria to judges good design are simple, well presentation, well concept explanation and story-line.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
To decide the design is ready which require multiple times of revision and try with a lot of other method of construct or amendments.
What is your biggest design work?
The best and biggest design I’ve ever work are luxury classic design; it gave me lots of emotion and technical error that I have to think twice if I am able to fulfil the combination of luxury and classic elements. The most challenging and excited part of designing luxury classic is the way you input both idea into a space.
Who is your favourite designer?
I personally do not have any specific favorite designer as I believe everyone has implemented different story and soul in their design. But talk about Taiwanese Interior Designer, they are all famous as celebrity in their country, they would always put their priority on concept design and practicality first.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
The favorite or inspiring city are definitely Taiwan as mention they would rather priories the conception design with emotion and practicality. Music is always first before comes out with the design, it gave you inspirational of emotions and flows to think further. Good design is necessary for advancement of society because design is always an art and emotions that can give anyone the space that they’re looking for.
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
Work hard is not an easy task but working smart is even more challenging as you need lots of inspiration and knowledge in order for you to think fast and come out the best opinion and solution to anyone. We always work as a team, as working alone are just part of working for yourself.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
Would always love to share more to the new blood in the Malaysia society, but before no one else know me, I think it could possibly I should enhance my designs and skills. When I am ready, new blood would be the first one I will share all my experiences to.
What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?
The main benefits of participating to design awards and competitions attending the A’ Design Award while you could show everyone that design are no limits and boundaries and some of the people never appreciat design, also it could bring you into another level of being an normal interior designer that no one would appreciated your work.
