Extended Interview with KJJH DESIGN

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I studied for a Master's degree in Design Management at the Milan Institute of Technology and obtained a Master's degree in Design Management. In addition, I also served as a senior internal architect of the company, and served as a design expert of Shenzhen Municipal Public Works Bureau, Vice President of Interior designer Association, Vice President of Shenzhen Futian Design Chamber of Commerce, and Executive Director of Guangdong Decoration Industry Association. These good backgrounds and rich experience have provided crucial support and guidance for my design work.
How did you become a designer?
As a Interior designer, I have paid special attention to the surrounding environment and space since I was young, and have a strong sensitivity to the enjoyment and perception of beauty. As I grew older, I began to contact more architectural space design works, and gradually understood the professional knowledge and skills in this field, and finally decided to become a Interior designer. For me, interior design is the perfect combination of creating beauty and practicality, which can provide people with a better, more comfortable and more high-quality living and working environment, which is a career I have always loved and pursued.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
I chose to become a designer instead of being forced. I love this industry and have great enthusiasm for beauty perception and creation since childhood, which is why I have always chosen to become a Interior designer. I deeply believe that a good design can not only improve people's quality of life, but also create more value for businesses and society. I really enjoy my job, so I will always be enthusiastic about it and constantly strive to improve my design skills and professional abilities.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
I am mainly engaged in interior design, including residential, commercial, office, hotel and other fields. In my past work, I have been involved in many different types of projects, from private residences to large commercial complexes, and I have extensive experience. Although I have a great passion for the field I work in, I am also very willing to try and explore new types of design, such as product design. In this industry, constantly learning and mastering new skills and knowledge is very important. Therefore, I am not only willing to continuously improve my professional skills and abilities in the field of interior design, but also willing to expand my design field and try more other design types.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
As an experienced designer, I will provide the following suggestions for young designers: 1. Continuously learn and explore new design fields and skills. Continuously expanding one's design perspective and communicating with professionals in different fields, constantly learning and mastering new design skills and knowledge, can help improve one's design level and professional ability. 2. Accumulate more practice and experience. Designers need to constantly accumulate experience from practice, reflect and summarize, and gradually accumulate knowledge and experience to improve their design skills. 3. Pay attention to details and quality. As an excellent designer, it is necessary to pay attention to details, achieve the utmost in every detail, and ensure that every design scheme has high quality.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
Excellent designers usually possess excellent design skills and professional abilities, able to complete high-quality design solutions, win recognition from customers and peers, and bring more business to the company. And great designers are not limited to having high design abilities, but also have a broader influence and sense of social responsibility. Great designers not only need to design excellent works, but also need to pay attention to social responsibility and sustainable development. Through their design influence, they continuously practice and promote concepts such as sustainable design and low-carbon environmental protection, and make outstanding contributions to human society.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
A truly good design should be a perfect combination of innovation, practicality, aesthetic value, and sustainability. It can be evaluated from multiple perspectives such as practical application, aesthetic value, and innovation, rather than just a single standard. For me personally, my evaluation of a good design is based on the contribution it brings to life and culture, integrating social responsibility and sustainability into the design, while emphasizing the perfect combination of practical needs and aesthetics, ultimately achieving outstanding design achievements.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Good design can generate great value. Firstly, good design can enhance the value and quality of products, environments, and services. It can improve people's user experience, brand image, and enhance the sustainability of products, services, or the environment. In addition, good design can also enhance the brand's influence and competitiveness, leading to more business and productivity improvements. Secondly, good design can bring cultural and artistic value, not only for the sake of beauty, but also to convey information, culture, and values. Good design can carry people's pursuit of life and influence on the public's aesthetic interest, while also inheriting art and cultural heritage for different cultures and ethnic groups. Finally, good design has investment value, as it can enhance brand revenue and growth, bringing greater financial returns. It can also increase the returns on investment accounts and stocks, thereby bringing better returns to investors. Because good design has such multiple values, everyone should invest in good design. For enterprises, good design is a powerful guarantee for enhancing brand influence and obtaining more business; For consumers, good design is a necessary condition for improving the quality of life. For designers, good design is their vision and belief. Therefore, we should encourage everyone to invest in good design in their work, life, and investment, in order to jointly create a better future.
What is your day to day look like?
I will choose to design innovative spaces tailored to different industries and populations, such as joint office spaces for creative industries, providing more comfortable leisure and entertainment venues for young people, and so on. I will fully consider the habits, psychology, and behavior of users, utilize technology and materials to innovate and create design works that are more contemporary and futuristic. Not only that, I will also create brand new office spaces with brand image, innovation, and sense of scope for enterprises that need, have innovation, and leadership positions, including interior design, architectural appearance design, etc., so that they can better reflect the corporate culture, brand image, and innovative characteristics. In short, as a practitioner in the interior design industry, I hope to bring better user experience and quality of life to more people through my own design practice.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
I have been striving to push the company to a higher level and provide better service to customers. One of the dream projects is to develop a new sustainable interior design solution that deeply integrates environmental protection and aesthetics. Through green materials, low-carbon and energy-saving design concepts and technologies, we provide customers with healthier and more environmentally friendly indoor spaces, while also contributing to sustainable development. I believe that as long as we have the determination and confidence to achieve these dreams, we can bring greater contributions to the industry.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
I believe that the secret to success lies in comprehensive planning and persistent pursuit of excellence. In design, I always pay attention to details and strive to find the best solution. This involves a deep understanding of customer needs, a grasp of industry development trends, and a precise grasp of design elements such as materials, colors, and textures. In the process of design, I always persist in pondering, deliberating, and repeatedly modifying, constantly improving the design scheme, and providing customers with the optimal design scheme. At the same time, I also focus on communication and cooperation with clients and partners, fully understanding their needs and ideas, integrating their wishes and expectations into the design, and working together with clients to achieve the success of the design.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
As a practitioner in the field of interior design, I have gained inspiration from the works of many masters and legendary figures. Among them, Steve Leung, the Hong Kong interior design master whom I admire most, I appreciate his simple style and his understanding of space very much. At the same time, I have also learned many other design masters, such as Yabu in the United States, Tadao Ando in Japan, etc., to draw inspiration from their works, pay attention to fashion, environmental protection, sustainability and other high-quality design directions, and improve their aesthetic and design ability.
What is your biggest design work?
I like the design concept of "functionalism" put forward by the French modernist master Le Corbusier. His works are very simple and beautiful, focusing on the use and performance of space, rather than just the decoration of appearance. In addition, I also really like the works of the famous Italian architect Ricardo Bofa. His design ideas are deeply inspired by nature, emphasizing the integration with nature and drawing inspiration from it. The works of these designers all contain profound design value and significance, which is very enlightening and instructive for me as a designer.
Who is your favourite designer?
As a Interior designer, I attach great importance to the practicality and sustainability of design. On this basis, I have been striving for the balance between innovation and beauty. Therefore, I believe my greatest design was the public space plan I designed for a hotel. This design takes into account multiple aspects such as practicality, aesthetics, and brand value, fully meeting the needs of customers in terms of space utilization and functionality. At the same time, it also emphasizes a humanized perspective, improving the user experience. In addition, the design also creates a unique atmosphere and brand image of the hotel through clever material combinations, simple and modern design language, and unique style.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
I believe that improving one's skills and knowledge is very important. Here are some methods that I have been practicing: Firstly, learn to explore, constantly seek inspiration, visit new places, buildings, or other design works to discover new trends and innovative points, and apply these inspirations to one's own design; Secondly, it is to cultivate skills, learn various tools and techniques to better design, and find the most suitable way for oneself, such as 3D rendering, VR technology, etc; Finally, there is practice, constantly entering design practice, trying various types of design projects, and exercising one's own concepts and ideas. Overall, I believe that learning, practicing, and constantly trying are important ways to improve oneself and become a better designer.
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
If I were not a designer, I might work with organizations, projects, or non-profit organizations related to the environment or community to help raise awareness of sustainability and environmental protection, such as housing energy efficiency improvement projects, community gardening projects, and so on. In addition, I also enjoy photography and travel, and may consider becoming a photographer or travel writer. In summary, I believe I will choose a job that is creative, meaningful, and helpful to society.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
I believe that design is a creative process that solves problems, improves experiences, and enhances functionality. Designers use creativity, innovation, and technology to create high-quality products, services, and experiences for users by analyzing problems and needs. For me, design is a very comprehensive and comprehensive concept that encompasses multiple dimensions such as space, brand, digital, and product, and deeply influences society and culture. In my practice, the design process is a process of communication and cooperation with customers and teams. In this process, I must be keen to capture the needs and desires, understand Market trend and advanced technologies, and provide the best feasible solutions. Design is also a complex and exciting job, in which I can use my imagination and talent to bring better experiences and products to customers.
What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?
My family and friends are my biggest supporters, and they have always encouraged me to pursue my dreams and passion in my career. In addition, my predecessors and colleagues have also helped me continuously grow and improve, providing me with valuable advice and guidance in terms of work experience and professional knowledge.
