About Yi Tung Hung

We are always used to knowing others with a single title, but a person's characteristics can never be fully recognized with only a noun. Therefore I won't give myself a title to tell people who I am. But if someone insist then creator seems a nice word to describe me. I've studied fashion design for 4 years, and graduated last summer. I'm also a model who can fully express themselves to this world. I would like to perform myself in different ways, but it definitely would not be a robot way that human do in this generation. It's still a long path to take before I finally blend into this world, but I believe it's a compulsory process for me to grow and shine.

Interview with Yi Tung Hung

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
it's quite a journey for me to become a fashion designer. In fact, I'm not used to be called as a designer yet. I graduate from fashion design apartment, but I don't think I could design clothes until I made this collection last year.
What is "design" for you?
For me, "design" it's not only art, most important is that it can be used, and it helps people in lives.
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
as long as it can be used on clothes, but as I said, it has to be comfort when people wear it on.
What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
"so unexpected" "surprise" "sense of achievement"
When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
for fashion, with no doubt, it must be good-looking or not. BUT ONLY for fashion aspect.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
I fully believe that once the works are published. Designers have responsibilities for considering the situation of the public emulation and whether the product is environment and animal friendly.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
a show held by my school last year; It's flexible, i didn't think that much, but i'm preparing the next collection this summer.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
it comes from my dreams and my intuition; i need to sleep at least 10 hour every day, for me, it's my meditation time.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
suit mix and match. I'm a woman, but I love to wear men clothes, it makes me feel comfort and free.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
i live in Taiwan. Taiwan's atmosphere is free, but people do not concern high fashion clothing.
Can you describe a day in your life?
my day is no different from everyone else's. The only difference is that there is more flexibility.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
it's achievement when people love my design. BUT when it becomes work, it makes me feel pressure.
What skills are most important for a designer?
for fashion it must be creativity, knowledge of texture and fabric.
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
assign a task for everyday, but also need to release the pressure.
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
finish a collection for Taipei fashion week 2024SS young talent show
Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
i develop my designs by myself most of time, when i encounter some difficulty i'd ask my college friends for help.
