Interview with VASSILIS SIAFARICAS

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I have always been very interested in both design and implementation. This is why I became a civil engineer and got involved with design.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
ECLÉDE, or Eclectic Design & Developments, is a design and development company focusing on luxury and eco-friendly properties. Design, Develop, Distinguish.
What is "design" for you?
Design is a combination of inspiration and functionality. To create something new and unique, you need to be inspired, but your design must also be helpful.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
All my designs are my children, and they are part of me. They are all my favorites. To answer this question, my favorite design is the next one that's coming.
What was the first thing you designed for a company?
It was in 2005 when I had to improve the designs of a big project made by a famous architect. This was the time I understood I had it in me.
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
I love marble and wood. At this very moment, I am intrigued by the LEED and other for Homes certificate specifications. It is exciting and inspiring.
When do you feel the most creative?
When I travel, I see new things, and my mind can't stop thinking and creating.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
Balance and Functionality. For me, there is no reason to create something beautiful but nonfunctional
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
Nowadays, all designers are responsible for thinking about the environment because they respect society and all individuals.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
At 47circles in Athens for Cleopatra's box. My next exhibition will be there too, in December
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
When your priority is to respect the environment, the environment leads you to your design solution. I recommend minimalistic interiors, though minimal interiors are not always the choice. Minimal fluidity would be a good approach.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
Athens, Greece, is steeped in history, which profoundly inspires me. While my country has numerous aspects that require change, it also has many treasures that deserve preservation and greater visibility.
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
See their work, but mainly ensure the designers will respect the company's ideas and concerns for the project
Can you talk a little about your design process?
We studied history and surroundings, understood business plans, and finalized our concept inspiration and design.
Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
Simple solutions are usually the best and most functional. Respect the environment.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
The problem with creators is that they must accept that everyone might not like their creations. So, persistence is the most significant advantage of a realistic designer and the biggest disadvantage of a dreamer designer.
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
To manage your time, you need experience, and experience is obtained through the years.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I have been designing for the last 20 years. I studied Civil Engineer in National Technical University of Athens
How did you become a designer?
I am trying to figure out what motivates me. Everything. It is something inner; it has no explanation. It's me. It had to be that way for some reason.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
A good design is irreplaceable. Investing in good designs means investing in evolution
How do you decide if your design is ready?
Le Corbusier, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Frank Lloyd Wright, Eileen Gray, Zaha Hadid and many more
What is your biggest design work?
Barcelona chair Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Arco lamp Castiglioni. They match everywhere
Who is your favourite designer?
The Boomerang Athens. Design and Reconstruction of the first LEED GOLD building in Athens, Greece
