About Huili Jin

As a fashion designer currently residing in London and immersed in both study and daily life, I am dedicated to merging sustainable practices with a focus on the female wearing experience. Hailing from China, I strive to liberate clothing from the fast-paced fashion world, reorienting attention towards both the sensation and comfort of wearing garments. I view clothing as a second skin, offering wearers deeper layers of significance.

Interview with Huili Jin

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I studied womenswear design at the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology for my undergraduate degree, and then I decided to move to London. After completing a year of study in Kingston University, I am now studying at the Royal College of Art.
What is "design" for you?
My designs are mainly for women and people with special needs, hoping to improve their lives through functional and therapeutic clothing.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
I love designing functional and therapeutic clothing. I believe that clothing has great potential in terms of functionality beyond just being beautiful to wear.
What makes a design successful?
I think a design is successful because it really meets the needs of some people, so successful design is based on the needs of the people.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
I think in today's society, it is the responsibility of designers to pay attention to the topic of sustainable development and special groups in society.
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
After completing my studies at the Royal College of Art in the UK, I plan to participate in more design projects that help special groups of people. I hope that my clothing can actually help people.
Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
I am designing clothing for women with ADHD, hoping that the clothing can help them in their lives.
