Production Technology
A particular highlight is the grand design of the welcome hall's flooring, where the dynamic, uninterrupted veining of the marble flows seamlessly across the space, creating a powerful and majestic impression. This striking feature sets the tone for the entire property, where only natural materials have been used. Floors and walls are finished with elegant marble, ceilings are coated in traditional Japanese plaster, and all furniture is crafted from solid natural wood and genuine leather, evoking a refined and timeless atmosphere.
Design Challenge
A key challenge in this project was the careful selection of natural materials. The thin layers of traditional plaster required repeated and meticulous base preparation to prevent cracking. Solid wood was prone to warping depending on environmental conditions. For the leather elements, only the highest-quality sections with minimal blemishes or discoloration were used. Despite the difficulty in sourcing such materials, the resulting space is one of exceptional warmth, quality, and presence.
Research
In every project we undertake, we carefully consider the unique characteristics of the location and all relevant conditions to propose a design that best meets the client's needs. For this project, positioned as a guest house for business use, our aim was to create an atmosphere where guests can feel at ease - free from tension - as if they were experiencing a scene from a serene resort. The design is intentionally simple yet dynamic, evoking a sense of calm sophistication.
Inspiration
This project began as a challenge to overcome strict architectural limitations. As a guesthouse welcoming international visitors, the low ceilings and confined atmosphere posed a design dilemma. By embracing simplicity and using dynamic materials, I aimed to transform the space - creating a sense of openness, elegance, and vitality despite its physical constraints.
Project Duration
This project was carried out in Fukuoka City over a period of two years starting from 2022.
Operation Flow
Upon arrival, guests are struck by the profound sense of gravitas and refined aesthetics that define the facility.
This impression is soon deepened by the sincere hospitality of the staff, whose service reflects unwavering dedication to comfort and care.
Guests may momentarily wonder whether their visit is for business or leisure, as they are gently enveloped in an atmosphere of calm and distinction.
This is not merely a place to stay; it is a guesthouse where the ordinary is gracefully transcended.
