About Crystal Visualizations Rakibaadda Farshaxanku

Shaqadan taxanaha ahi waxay ku lug leedahay abuurista sawirro murugsan oo murugsan kuna saleysan falanqaynta faahfaahsan ee qaab dhismeedka kiimikada kirismaska. Adoo aruurinaya xogta sida masaafada udhaxeysa shey kasta, xaglaha iskujira kiimikada iyo cufnaanta moodeelka qaab dhismeedka sheykoolka, Yingri Guan wuxuu badalaa oo udhacayaa xogta jajabinta iyadoo la dhisayo isleegyo isleegyo iyo qaacidooyin.

About the Abaalmarinta Birta ah ee A' Design Award

Crystal Visualizations Rakibaadda Farshaxanku waa guuleystaha Abaalmarinta Birta ah ee A' Design Award, aqoonsi sharaf leh oo la siiyo naqshado wanaagsan oo buuxiya shuruudaha xirfadeed iyo kuwa warshadeed ee laga filayo hal-abuurro si wanaagsan loo naqshadeeyay. Guuleystayaasha Birta waxay muujiyaan xirfad weyn, takhasus sare, fahan khabiir iyo awood hal-abuur oo abuurayaashooda. Crystal Visualizations Rakibaadda Farshaxanku waa hal-abuur la filayo inuu noqdo mid aad loo tixgeliyo, la ixtiraamo oo la jecel yahay, wax ku ool ah oo cusub. Naqshadahan ku guuleystay Abaalmarinta Birta ah ee A' Design Award wuxuu isku daraa hab-dhaqannada ugu wanaagsan warshadda wuxuuna leeyahay sifooyin farsamo oo karti leh oo ku xiran aqoon iyo hibo. Dhammaystirkeeda awgeed, Crystal Visualizations Rakibaadda Farshaxanku waa mudan ixtiraam, waxaana loo naqshadeeyay inay keento hagaajin nololeed oo ka caawisa in adduunka laga dhigo meel ka wanaagsan.

Unique Properties
By analyzing the chemical bonding in crystals and applying a set of mathematical equations and rules to my research, the fractal image is generated by computer through coding. Drawing inspiration from four different crystal structures, four different pieces are generated.

Production Technology
The images are generated through computer programming. Then the images are exported into vectors. The vectors then transformed into sculpture etching using laser cutters. Later the cut acrylic glass are then assembled together with the wood table structure to keep it secure. And they are illuminated with lights to magnify the generative lines.
Design Challenge
The challenge is to maximize the aesthetic beauty of this piece while making it physically feasible. The first version was created with acrylic glass stack onto each other for easier assembly. However, I soon realized that would be too heavy of a piece both in terms of design and weight. So I explored different options in terms of how to assemble a acrylic glass to a heart shape while making the topographic map layer correspondinging on top of each other. Another challenge lies in how to install the LED light to illuminate the whole piece. Several pedestal options and filtering materials were tested and the final product is as shown.
Research
San Francisco has really unique topological maps and hence that became my inspiration. Looking at San Francisco while flying on a plane. Especially at night. San Francisco's map is distributed to different altitudes.
Inspiration
This series of work initiated with my fascination with crystals and fractals. There is a stark similarity between them. Crystals are formed by the orderly arrangements of atoms or ions while fractals are generated by repeating simple geometric shapes by obeying a certain set of rules. Both formations involve repetitions of identical singular units. It then evolved to become a visualizing crystal structure using generated fractal images.
Project Duration
The project started in Dec 2012 in Buffalo and finished in December 2019 in Seattle.
Operation Flow
People come to close interaction with the piece and see it. They will learn about crystal structure via a close examination of the 4 different pieces.
