It preserves memories and ensures they are passed on to future generations, offering peace of mind that your digital footprint is protected and valued by those who matter.

Digiverse Digital Inheritance Platform by Shinga Yoshimine and Yitian Zeng addresses the increasingly vital contemporary challenge of digital asset management and legacy planning within our expanding technological landscape, positioning this interface design within the emerging field of end-of-life digital stewardship where thoughtful user experience design intersects with profound human concerns about continuity, memory, and the transfer of our increasingly digitized lives across generational boundaries. The compositional achievement demonstrates sophisticated understanding of contemporary interface design principles through its carefully calibrated information architecture that guides users through potentially emotionally complex tasks with clarity and grace, the modular card-based layout providing cognitive scaffolding that breaks overwhelming processes into manageable discrete actions, each functional module presented with appropriate visual hierarchy and breathing room that respects user attention and reduces anxiety around sensitive subject matter. The chromatic sophistication appears in the restrained palette selection, the soft warm neutrals establishing a foundation of calm approachability while the carefully chosen periwinkle blue accent color provides necessary visual emphasis for interactive elements without introducing aggressive urgency, this blue reading as trustworthy and accessible while maintaining sufficient contrast for usability standards, the warm coral-orange reserved judiciously for status communication creates effective semantic coding without overwhelming the composed atmosphere. The integration of the atmospheric forest pathway photography within the hero region represents a particularly thoughtful formal choice, introducing metaphorical resonance around journeys, transitions, natural cycles, and pathways forward while simultaneously humanizing the digital environment through organic naturalistic imagery, the misty depth and receding perspective perhaps suggesting both the uncertainty inherent in planning for unknowable futures and the gentle invitation to move forward along contemplated paths. Technical execution demonstrates professional-grade attention to systematic design thinking, the consistent iconographic language, typographic modulation, spacing relationships, and component styling suggesting a mature design system built for scalability and coherent user experience across varied use cases, the interface achieving that difficult balance between functional density necessary for dashboard utility and generous whitespace essential for emotional comfort when addressing mortality and legacy. The platform seemingly invites users to consider their digital existence as something worthy of intentional curation and thoughtful transfer, elevating what might be purely administrative tasks into acts of care and foresight, the clear beneficiary management and asset organization tools empowering users to actively shape how their digital presence continues beyond their direct participation, what stories and resources persist, who receives access to which dimensions of accumulated digital life. One might observe how this design approaches its sensitive subject matter not through somber aesthetics or heavy-handed memorial imagery but rather through clarity, organization, gentle color, and the subtle suggestion through that forest path that transitions, while perhaps uncertain, can be navigated with preparation and the platform serves as a considered companion for that navigation, inviting viewers to contemplate how thoughtful design can bring dignity and agency to universal human experiences traditionally avoided in everyday discourse.

Design Interview about Digiverse Digital Inheritance Platform

The main idea behind Digiverse is to make digital asset inheritance simple, secure, and accessible. In today’s digital age, people hold significant value in online accounts, cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and digital documents, but there’s often no clear way to pass them on since they exist only in digital form. Digiverse was inspired by the need to protect these assets and ensure they can be safely transferred to loved ones, preserving meaningful digital legacies for future generations.

We focused on making digital asset inheritance as smooth, secure, and user-friendly as possible. Since the platform handles highly sensitive information, such as bank accounts, personal documents, and cryptocurrency wallets, Our priority was to build trust through robust security measures and clear, intuitive design.

Our future plan is to bring Digiverse to life, as it is currently a conceptual design. We aim to develop it into a fully functional platform that can help individuals securely manage and transfer their digital assets.

The design process for this concept took roughly three months, from initial user research and ideation to finalizing the user experience, interface design, and overall platform concept.

One of our team members came up with the idea, and we were inspired to bring it to life. It wasn’t commissioned. We pursued it out of shared interest and a belief in its potential impact.

Since the design is still conceptual, we haven’t made any concrete plans for production or licensing. However, we’re open to collaboration and would love to hear from anyone interested in bringing it to life with us.

In today’s digital era, people own countless digital accounts and assets, from financial platforms to personal files. A key question showed up: What happens to all of this if something unexpected happens to me? That concern sparked the idea for Digiverse.

The design of Digiverse was primarily shaped by collaboration within our own team. Rather than looking outward, we inspired each other, sharing ideas, challenging assumptions, and refining concepts together.

The target customer for this design is anyone who owns digital assets, whether that’s online accounts, cryptocurrencies, NFTs, or important digital documents. Digiverse is designed to be accessible to all, including those who aren’t tech-savvy.

What sets this design apart is its emphasis on robust security combined with simplicity. Unlike many similar concepts, Digiverse was conceptualized with third-party collaboration, such as potential integration with banks and trusted platforms to enhance the protection of sensitive data like bank account information.

Digiverse = "Digital" + " Universe", reflecting our vision to create an ecosystem where users feel a sense of ownership, access, and inheritance over their digital lives. The name evokes a connected, secure space—your own digital universe—where every asset is thoughtfully managed and passed on with confidence.

We were using multiple design tools, such as Figma, Adobe Illustrator and Premiere Pro.

As a product of our generation, we designed Digiverse by deeply empathizing with a reality few dare to address, the digital afterlife. In today’s world, each person owns at least a dozen digital accounts. But what happens to them when we’re gone? Our design stands out because it thoughtfully answers that question—bridging technology and legacy with care, foresight, and respect.

Although this design is conceptual, we invested significant time in early-stage research and feedback collection.
We distributed surveys through school organizations and social platforms to gather insights on how people feel about their digital accounts after death. Additionally, we conducted interviews with 5–6 individuals from various industries.
Their biggest concerns were data security and system integration—and many agreed that if those issues were addressed, this would be an incredibly valuable and needed solution.

Yes, our design was strongly influenced by both qualitative and quantitative research. We conducted a survey distributed through university channels and social platforms to understand public attitudes toward digital inheritance. We also performed interviews with individuals from various professions to explore their specific concerns—mainly around security and account integration. To further shape our information architecture, we used card sorting to test how users group and understand different types of digital assets. In addition, we carried out field research by reviewing existing digital platforms and estate tools, identifying gaps in how digital legacies are currently managed.
These insights directly helped the structure, priorities, and user flows of our concept.

One of the main challenges we faced was addressing users’ strong concerns about security, especially around sensitive data like bank accounts. During our initial user survey, this issue consistently emerged as a top priority.

At first, we submitted with a simple mindset—just to give it a try. But more importantly, we’ve always enjoyed sharing our ideas, even if they’re just early inspirations. We truly believe this concept has the potential to benefit people in a meaningful way, and that belief motivated us to share it with a wider audience through the A' Design Award.

One of the biggest lessons we gained was how to approach the design of a complex system while staying grounded in human needs. Digital inheritance involves emotional, technical, and legal layers, and balancing those required empathy as much as structure. This project pushed us to think beyond interfaces, to consider trust, timing, and the responsibilities users carry, especially in sensitive moments.

Grand Interview about Digiverse Digital Inheritance Platform

The pivotal moment came from a simple question: what happens to our digital lives when we are no longer here?Today, many of our memories, identities, financial assets, and personal records exist digitally, yet most people do not have a clear plan for how those assets should be accessed or protected. That uncertainty inspired us to create Digiverse. With Digiverse, we wanted to help people organize their digital assets and ensure their memories, values, and important information can be safely passed on to their loved ones with clarity, security, and care.

Our design decisions were guided by the emotional sensitivity of the platform. Digiverse deals with personal memories, important information, and digital assets, so we wanted the interface to feel secure, calm, and approachable. We chose a blueish color scheme because blue is commonly associated with trust, clarity, and stability. It also connects naturally with technology, which helped us create a visual identity that feels both reliable and modern. Our goal was to make users feel comfortable managing something deeply personal while still trusting the platform’s security and structure.

Digiverse balances accessibility and protection by making the platform simple, clear, and easy to understand across generations, while keeping security at the center of the experience. We used user-friendly language, intuitive layouts, and guided steps so users can manage sensitive digital assets with confidence. At the same time, we considered stronger protection through identity verification, two-step authentication, security questions, and potential integration with trusted financial institutions or third-party verification systems. Our goal was to make digital inheritance approachable, while ensuring valuable information is only accessed by the right people.

One of the most important insights from our user research was that people were highly concerned about the security of their personal information. Digital inheritance can involve sensitive assets, such as bank accounts, identity documents, and private records, so trust became a key part of the design. This insight shaped the final concept by encouraging us to make the platform both simple and secure. We focused on clear guidance, user-friendly layouts, and the idea of integrating with trusted third-party systems, such as financial institutions, to add another layer of verification and protection.

As digital assets continue to expand, we envision Digiverse evolving into a long-lasting platform for managing, protecting, and passing down digital legacies in a more organized way.Because the platform is digital, it can reduce the need for physical documents, save time in organizing important assets, and make it easier for users to securely pass meaningful information to their loved ones and future generations. We also see sustainability as an important part of its value, as Digiverse supports a more paperless and efficient approach to inheritance planning in the digital era.

Digiverse was shaped through the combination of UX design and full-stack thinking. While UX design helped us focus on building trust, emotions, and user flows around sensitive moments such as digital inheritance, technical expertise allowed us to evaluate feasibility and design the platform with real-world implementation in mind. This collaboration helped us balance usability with security, simplify complex processes like asset management and beneficiary verification, and create an experience that feels approachable rather than overwhelming. Even though Digiverse is a conceptual project, the combination of design and technical perspectives enabled us to envision a solution that is both meaningful and practical.

As a conceptual project, we approached third-party collaboration from a systems perspective. Security and compliance are challenges that every modern technology platform must address.Instead of treating banks as data providers, we envisioned them as trusted ecosystem partners. User consent, transparent permissions, secure APIs, and identity verification were key principles guiding our design.Building user trust was always a priority. We believe transparency, limited data access, and compliance with existing financial and privacy regulations are essential for any future implementation of digital inheritance platforms.

We believe digital inheritance will become an increasingly important part of modern life. As our digital presence continues to grow, managing assets one account at a time may no longer be sustainable. In the future, people may move beyond isolated platforms and toward a more unified ecosystem that gives them greater ownership and control over their digital lives. Digital estate planning could evolve from simply transferring passwords to managing identities, memories, financial assets, and personal data across multiple services.Of course, breaking traditional boundaries also makes security, privacy, and trust even more critical. We believe these principles will be fundamental to the future of digital inheritance.More importantly, we hope projects like Digiverse can encourage broader conversations around digital legacy and inspire new approaches to how we preserve and pass on our digital lives.

The one-click invitation process was designed with a strong focus on reducing friction. We recognized that digital inheritance is already a sensitive and complex topic, so we wanted the beneficiary onboarding experience to feel as simple and approachable as possible.Rather than requiring complicated procedures, we aimed to minimize barriers and guide users through a familiar invitation flow. By lowering the effort needed to add and verify beneficiaries, we hoped to encourage adoption while maintaining trust and security throughout the process.Ultimately, our goal was to make a difficult conversation easier and help users take action with confidence.

Our research revealed that people's thinking extended beyond technology itself. The biggest themes were convenient, trust, security, and control. These insights directly influenced the design of Digiverse. To address unauthorized access, we introduced beneficiary designation, identity verification, and review steps. To solve the problem of fragmented digital assets, we designed a centralized dashboard and structured asset categories. We also incorporated permission-based access to ensure users retain control over what information is shared.Rather than treating security as a purely technical problem, we approached it from a human perspective. The security architecture of Digiverse was shaped by users' concerns and designed to balance convenience, privacy, and trust.
