About Floating Life To Help People
Floating Life is a series of illustrated posters about human emotions and personalities. The title refers to the ancient Lao-Zhuang school, which viewed life in the world as empty and described it as a floating life. The illustrations shape each character so that thoughts appear on the surface of the figure and not only in the mind. Each poster is joined by a written explanation of the emotion shown. The aim is to help viewers notice the details of the work and recognize emotions that occur in everyday life.
Floating Life To Help People by Lu Zhao emerges from a rich tradition of surrealist and symbolist visual practice, wherein the boundaries between human form and natural world dissolve to reveal deeper truths about consciousness, growth, and transformation. This sophisticated diptych demonstrates remarkable technical accomplishment in its monochromatic rendering, achieving extraordinary tonal range and textural differentiation through what appears to be graphite or ink wash techniques executed with exceptional precision. The work participates in longstanding artistic conversations about metamorphosis and the porosity between human identity and botanical life, recalling traditions from Giuseppe Arcimboldo's composite portraits through contemporary bio-art movements. The left panel's classical sculptural reference, with its beautifully articulated drapery folds, grounds the composition in Western art historical tradition while the floral explosion emerging from the cranial region suggests the fecundity of thought, memory, and emotional life. The accompanying panel offers a complementary meditation through its more geometric, almost mechanical figural treatment, suggesting perhaps a different mode of consciousness or state of being. The integration of typographic elements featuring phonetic transcriptions creates a bridge between visual and linguistic meaning-making, inviting contemplation of how we name and thereby shape our understanding of emotional and psychological states. The artist's command of rendering techniques, from the soft gradations of skin-like surfaces to the intricate detail of individual petals and leaves, rewards extended contemplation. Viewers might consider what these floral-human hybrids suggest about the cultivation of inner life, the relationship between nurturing and flourishing, or the ways in which growth sometimes requires the transformation of familiar forms.

- Unique Properties
- There are many personalities, emotions, and personalities in life. The work closely integrates the shaping of each character. Thoughts are not only reflected in the brain but also on the surface. Floating life can be experienced by everyone, and each emotion may appear more or less in everyone’s life. In addition to the illustration in the poster, I also gave a detailed explanation of each emotion in order to Better feel the details in the work.
- Inspiration
- The ancient Lao-Zhuang school believed that life was empty in the world, so it called life a floating life. Based on the understanding of the word "floating life", I use illustration language to express this theme.
