About Grand Theatre of Sanshui Art Performances and Conferences
Grand Theatre of Sanshui is an interior design for a cultural center used for art performances and conferences. The three-story building covers 5000 square meters and stands beside Hexiang Lake in Foshan, Guangdong, China. The main design elements are drawn from the lotus flowers of the lake, and their shapes guide the interior components. Inside the theatre, wood veneer, walls and floor are joined without empty space, and carpet reduces the noise of footsteps. Floor level glass windows bring in natural light and views of the lotus scenery outside.
Within the distinguished tradition of contemporary performing arts architecture, Basic Design's Grand Theatre of Sanshui Art Performances and Conferences represents a remarkable synthesis of acoustic engineering, spatial poetry, and material refinement that elevates the experience of collective cultural gathering to one of profound sensory and spiritual engagement, the interior composition revealing a sophisticated understanding of how architectural form can simultaneously serve technical acoustic requirements while creating environments of extraordinary visual beauty and emotional resonance, the designers appear to have drawn upon both Eastern and Western theatrical traditions in developing the distinctive faceted wall treatment that transforms what might otherwise be purely functional acoustic surfaces into a sculptural landscape of light and shadow, the warm timber palette suggests careful consideration of how material warmth affects audience psychology and acoustic character, creating an environment that feels simultaneously grand and intimate, monumental yet welcoming, the three-tiered seating arrangement follows classical theatrical conventions while the curvilinear balcony profiles and angular wall geometries introduce contemporary dynamism that prevents the space from feeling static or merely reverential, lighting design emerges as a crucial compositional element with the strategic placement of downlights creating rhythmic punctuation across the faceted surfaces while maintaining the sense of theatrical mystery appropriate to a venue dedicated to live performance, one might observe how the chromatic choice of saturated red seating against warm wood creates both visual hierarchy and emotional activation preparing audiences for the heightened experience of artistic performance, the composition invites contemplation of how architecture shapes our capacity for collective attention and shared aesthetic experience.

- Design Challenge
- BASIC DESIGN always adheres to the design concept of "advocating nature, respecting tradition, tracing back to the origin and being creative", and carries out design of this case by exploring the traditional culture combined with the conception of natural prospect. The rich traditional humanistic style and elegant natural scenery and artistic conception coexist with each other, thus creating another cultural business card of spatial aesthetics for Foshan.

- Research Summary:
With the combination of modern geometry and visual interleaving,the indoor floor glass window is used to catch the natural light, and the outdoor wind-driven scenery of lotus is introduced to seek the compromise between aesthetics and nature on the internal and external boundaries. The intention of the design can be clearly displayed through the displayed parts, and the charm of the whole space can be built together. So as to highlight the cultural symbols of urban implication and integrate the remote aesthetic mood into this work. - Inspiration
- A breeze is blowing, lotus fragrance is full on Miao City. (Miao City another name for Sanshui)There is a lotus lake in Sanshui, Foshan. The world famous for lotus is located here. Sanshui cultural center is built around the lake. The Grand Theater (Cultural Center) is located in the center of the five pavilions. The main design elements are extracted from the lotus, and the final design components are evolved with their shapes.
