About Jing Hong Art Installations

Jing Hong is a large art installation created for an art gallery in Beijing, China. The red form reaches 6 meters in height and extends about 100 meters in total length. The streamer shape flows from the outdoor stairs into the gallery and continues to a dining space below. A welded iron frame serves as the internal keel, and matte stretch fabric forms the ribbon surface. Curved landing points carry the load, so no columns or hanging points are used. A wind device sets part of the fabric in motion. Visitors can walk along the installation and feel surrounded by the streamer.

Production Technology
3D iron welding technology, the production of special shaped structures are very difficult. Before production, sufficient warehouse space was set aside, 1:1 modeling was carried out. Key points in the structure were determined and laid out, workers then manually performed the final bending and shaping welding. There is also a dynamic wind device in the installation. A streamer flying in the shape of the sunset. It has no structure, dances with the wind when the wind force is set by the wind device.
Design Challenge
1 Creative linkage of indoor, outdoor and restaurant spaces. The streamers floated from the outdoor stairs into the gallery, meandered into the sunset, then floated to the dinner space downstairs, and finally landed on the table. 2 Add dynamic wind driven devices to the static exhibition. Visitors can also interact with the wind device.3 An in depth study of the mechanical structure was conducted. The 6m high device is only supported by its own curved structure without columns or hanging points.
Project Duration
The project started with site survey and conceptual design and scheme design in February 2023. After nearly five months of preparation and half a month of construction and production,
Entered the site to start construction on the evening of July 28, 2023, and completed the scene shooting and acceptance at 8 a.m. on July 29. This project can also be used for tours and wedding photography.
The project is located at the China Oil Painting Academy in Beijing, China.
Operation Flow
This device can be used to visit, experience, take photos, hold weddings, etc. Jinghong is not only poem, but also the homophony of red, so the color of the designed streamers is red. Visitor can appreciate the graceful posture of this streamer at different locations, can walk into installation and feel as if streamer is surrounding and leading them towards the sunset, they have become a part of it. Sunset gives people sense of future, the orange red color brings warm power, and flying ribbons make everyone feel healed.
Research
Type, How to use ground installations to present the beauty of dynamic flow, achieve immersive design. Method, Focus on the shape of the curve in space. Have enough accurate data. Restore the design to the greatest extent during production, and make it by hand. An oil painter was invited to record paintings. Data, 300 people visited it. Effect: The presentation of this device has received rave reviews. It is a small budget project, uses the most common and low cost materials and has been praised by the administrator, no such design is represented in the gallery.
Inspiration
Jinghong means "Elegant as a swan, graceful as a wandering Loong"It comes from Cao Zhi's "Ode to the Goddess of Luo", which is a classic Chinese literature and is known as "a chapter unparalleled by future generations" This ode fictionalizes the author's encounter and love with godness Luo. The fictional image of Luo is extremely beautiful, so Ode of Luo has produced many beautiful poems. The world thinks that she is as graceful as swan and as winding as Loong.Full of dynamic and ethereal beauty
