About Kamakura Golf Club House
Kamakura Country Club, located at the top of a hill, is the closest golf course to Tokyo, surrounded by nature in all directions and with a view of the Shonan Sea and as far as Yokohama City. The renewal concept of Third Place means a place that is an extension of your rich daily life spent with golf in the midst of nature. The second floor features a fitness room, restaurant, premium lounge, and other facilities that can be used freely for everything from reading to remote work.
This interior environment represents a thoughtful synthesis of contemporary architectural minimalism and traditional material reverence, positioning itself within the trajectory of late 20th and early 21st century design movements that emphasize spatial clarity, material authenticity, and experiential richness, the Golf Club House demonstrates particular resonance with principles emerging from Scandinavian modernism and contemporary interpretations of traditional spatial practices that prioritize human scale, natural light modulation, and tactile material engagement, the compositional achievement of this double-height atrium lies in its masterful orchestration of horizontal and vertical elements creating visual rhythm without monotony, the parallel wooden slat ceiling system establishes a dominant directional cadence that guides movement and sight lines while simultaneously providing acoustic softening and visual warmth, this overhead plane contrasts dramatically with the pristine white vertical surfaces that amplify available light and create a gallery-like neutrality allowing the carefully selected material accents to register with full sensory impact, the technical accomplishment evident in the integration of diverse materials demonstrates sophisticated detailing, the translucent glass block wall filters and diffuses natural illumination creating a luminous veil that changes character throughout the day, providing privacy while maintaining visual lightness, the mezzanine level glass balustrade preserves spatial continuity and sight lines while the suspended circular lighting fixtures introduce sculptural punctuation and vertical interest, particularly notable is the introduction of organic charred timber elements in the foreground, these sculptural forms reference traditional preservation techniques while providing textural and chromatic grounding, their irregular organic geometries offer counterpoint to the rectilinear architectural framework, inviting tactile imagination and suggesting connections to landscape and natural processes, the stone masonry counter running perpendicular to the main axis introduces another material voice, its rough-hewn character and horizontal mass providing visual anchoring and suggesting traditional craft practices, thematically the space appears to meditate on the intersection of arrival and sanctuary, threshold and destination, the composed formality of architectural elements combined with the warmth of natural materials and the contemplative presence of the organic sculptural forms suggests an environment designed to facilitate transition from exterior activity to interior reflection, the careful modulation of light from the diffused glow of the glass block wall to the focused illumination of the background corridor orchestrates an experiential gradient inviting progressive discovery, one might observe how this spatial composition negotiates between openness and enclosure, geometric discipline and organic irregularity, contemporary refinement and material authenticity, creating an environment that honors both functional hospitality requirements and the deeper human need for spaces that resonate with natural rhythms and tactile richness, the work invites consideration of how architecture can create pause within movement, offering spatial hospitality that addresses both practical needs and contemplative aspirations.

- Unique Properties
- Impressive focal points were expressed inside and out.
One of the symbols to carry on the founding spirit was to build stone walls on the new facade and interior in the castle concept architecture. The effect was to create a design icon that connects the outside and the inside. Another symbol to carry on the founding spirit was the boldly cut stump of a large zelkova tree, which has been preserved since the course site, and placed in the atrium like an object in a Japanese garden, creating a narrative scene that confronts the past and future by contrasting the minimalist chandelier. - Dimensions & Packaging

- Production Technology
- The entire clubhouse draws natural water from underground and uses it for everything from beverages to bathroom toilets after distillation. For this purpose, a large distillation facility has been installed at great expense. Because the facility is located on a hill, it is prepared for water outages, and the entire building can be used with peace of mind.
- Design Challenge
- Because it was during the Corona pandemic, we were able to patiently negotiate with a stone mason to procure the masonry stone to represent the walls of the castle-like design icons and the difficulties in construction and were able to excavate and complete the building.
- Project Duration
- Completed from March 2021 to January 2023.
This project is a complete renewal of the existing location of the current clubhouse.
Location: Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture. - Operation Flow
- Provide an environment of club life where members can enjoy golf and rich moments at the same time.
- Research
- Proposal for a new club life in golf course clubhouse.
- Inspiration
- We planned to provide a “third place” for individuals to enjoy golf in addition to group golf. It is a clubhouse equipped with a new way of spending time that enriches club life itself. We have set up Japan's first mobile workplace. It is possible to work in between golfing and play golf in between work at will. The clubhouse is equipped with facilities for remote work and also offers a luxurious place to read or study while enjoying the beautiful scenery. A full-fledged fitness room is also available.
