About Mew Gic Cat Furniture
Mew Gic is a modular cat furniture system that is assembled without nails. The design is based on one repeated square bamboo panel and a sisal column, joined by plastic mortise and tenon connections for quick assembly. The circular plate at the center of each panel rotates to form a cat passage, a jumping platform or a closed panel. A single panel can be fixed to a wall and used as a storage shelf, while several panels can be combined on the floor or on the wall into many shapes. Damaged parts can be replaced, which reduces waste.
Mew Gic Cat Furniture by Ziel Home Furnishing Technology Co., Ltd exemplifies the contemporary evolution of pet furniture design toward objects that honor both feline behavioral needs and human aesthetic sensibilities within shared domestic environments. This modular system demonstrates sophisticated understanding of cats' instinctual desires for vertical territory, observation perches, and enclosed refuges, translating these requirements into a visually cohesive architectural vocabulary of cubes, bridges, and platforms. The choice of natural wood with visible grain patterns connects the design to broader Scandinavian and Japanese minimalist traditions, where material honesty and warm organic textures create environments conducive to wellbeing. Circular portals cut into each module serve dual functions as passage points and viewing frames, their geometric regularity establishing visual rhythm while accommodating various feline postures and activities. The inclusion of sisal-wrapped scratching elements addresses practical maintenance of claw health while introducing textural variety that enriches the sensory environment. Particularly notable is the acrylic dome component, which creates an observatory-like space allowing cats to survey their domain while remaining visibly connected to family life below. The wall-mounted configuration liberates floor space while encouraging natural climbing behaviors, and the curved connecting bridges demonstrate structural inventiveness in creating continuous circulation paths. The warm color palette, dominated by honey and amber wood tones against the sophisticated sage backdrop, suggests an interior philosophy where pet furniture enhances rather than disrupts domestic aesthetics. How might we reconsider our shared living spaces when the needs of companion animals receive such thoughtful, beautiful attention?

- Production Technology
- Mew gic is made of natural environmental protection material - bamboo lamella, the panel is processed by CNC, and uses the principle of rotating buckle to realize three different shapes of the middle circular plate (cat channel, cat jumping platform, sealing plate), and the connection of the plates is made of matching plastics Tenon and tenon joints are used for connection. When the product is damaged, the user can send the damaged parts to the mall to replace with new parts. The sustainable product design avoids waste of resources and environmental pollution.
- Design Challenge
- The biggest challenge is the realization of the structure and the arbitrary combination of a single plate like a building block. We spent a lot of time on the calculation of the circular plate rotating structure. In addition, the mortise and tenon joints have also been tested repeatedly. Guarantee the load-bearing of the product.
- Project Duration
- The project started in Shenzhen in January 2021 and completed in Shenzhen in August 2021.
- Operation Flow
- When a single plate is used, it can be installed on the wall, and the circular plate in the middle can be rotated as a storage platform; multiple plates can be assembled into any shape of cat house through plastic tenon-and-mortise joints, which can be placed on the ground or combined. Create a playground for cats on the wall.
- Research
- With changes in the social relationship environment, public loneliness is on the rise. "Spiritual sustenance, enriching emotional life" has become the primary reason for raising pets; under the global pet upsurge, the pet consumption market maintains an average annual growth rate of 7%. The quality of products in the pet furniture market is uneven, and new insights into the physical and psychological needs of pets are lacking; traditional cat climbing frames have pain points such as large size, inconsistent with the home style, and difficult materials to clean up, so the development of human-pet harmony is based on pets. Life scenario-based design needs have become an important direction to meet the more diverse needs of customers.
- Inspiration
- Inspired by building blocks, we hope to realize infinite forms of furniture products through one component, so that users can experience the fun of DIY and create a paradise for cats.
