About Mirrored Lotus Residence
Mirrored Lotus is a residential interior design set on the 24th floor of a high-rise building in Taiwan. The residence covers 423 square meters and is arranged around water. A four-meter cascading waterfall on the front terrace connects to indoor water features that flow past the living room and bar to a rear lounge and barbecue area. A black pearl stone basin with a lotus pond marks the entrance. Chrome ceramic tiles, handcrafted mosaics and concealed LED lighting add depth, and floor-to-ceiling windows frame city and mountain views.
Uni Being LTD.'s Mirrored Lotus Residence exemplifies contemporary residential design's evolution toward open, light-filled spatial environments that dissolve traditional compartmentalization in favor of fluid, multifunctional zones unified through consistent material palettes and carefully calibrated visual hierarchies. The project demonstrates sophisticated understanding of spatial planning principles that emerged from modernist architecture's emphasis on transparency, honest material expression, and interior-exterior integration, here translated into a domestic context that maintains the conceptual clarity of modernist spatial logic while enriching the vocabulary through decorative elements and bold chromatic accents that reference maximalist design sensibilities and global decorative arts traditions. The compositional achievement of the space resides in its successful negotiation of seemingly oppositional design impulses: the restraint of the neutral architectural envelope against the exuberance of the yellow butterfly panel and dimensional daisy relief; the minimalist geometry of the furniture forms against the organic naturalism of the botanical imagery; the cool perfection of the polished stone flooring against the warm intimacy of the wood veneers and amber glass lighting elements. The ceiling treatment deserves particular attention for its layered complexity, where recessed coffers create shadow lines that emphasize the planarity of the overhead surface while simultaneously suggesting volumetric depth, the descending beams visually lowering the ceiling height in certain zones to create spatial variety within the expansive volume, and the integration of concealed lighting sources that wash adjacent surfaces with even illumination contributes to the overall sense of luminous clarity pervading the environment. The selection and deployment of decorative elements reveals discerning curatorial sensibility, particularly in the left wall's butterfly composition, which transforms what might be merely ornamental surface treatment into a bold graphic statement that commands visual attention while maintaining stylistic coherence with the space's overall aesthetic through its geometric clarity and controlled color palette, and the right wall's sculptural daisies, which introduce tactile three-dimensionality and naturalistic reference while their simplified forms and metallic finishes maintain dialogue with the contemporary design vocabulary governing the broader space. The furniture groupings demonstrate understanding of social dynamics and domestic ritual, the dining zone accommodating eight persons in a configuration suggesting both casual family meals and more formal entertaining, while the elevated living area creates a distinct spatial territory for conversation and relaxation, its symmetrical arrangement establishing formality and balance while the neutral upholstery ensures visual quietude that allows surrounding decorative elements to command attention. The material palette throughout suggests commitment to quality and craft, the travertine flooring requiring skilled installation to achieve the seamless appearance evident in the polished surface, the wood veneers selected for consistent grain and warm tonality, the metallic elements likely employing brass or bronze alloys that acquire gentle patina over time, and the textiles chosen for durability and tactile appeal as well as visual contribution, all materials working in concert to create an environment that rewards both distant viewing and intimate tactile engagement. The chromatic strategy deserves recognition for its restraint and precision, establishing a foundation of warm neutrals that unify the expansive space while deploying saturated yellow as a strategic accent color that activates specific zones without overwhelming the composition, the black elements providing tonal anchors that enhance spatial legibility and create visual punctuation, and the white upholstery offering moments of brightness that reflect and amplify ambient light. The integration of botanical imagery through both two-dimensional graphic representation and three-dimensional sculptural relief suggests the space's thematic engagement with natural forms and organic beauty, translating exterior garden elements into interior decorative vocabulary that maintains connection to living natural systems while operating within the controlled aesthetic framework of contemporary design, this biophilic dimension enriching the domestic experience by invoking associations with growth, renewal, and the cyclical rhythms of the natural world. The lighting design, both natural and artificial, appears central to the spatial success, the extensive glazing systems flooding the interior with daylight that animates surfaces throughout the diurnal cycle while the architectural lighting supplements and extends this natural illumination into evening hours, the amber glass chandelier functioning not merely as light source but as sculptural presence that commands attention and creates focal intensity within the horizontal spatial field. One might observe how this residence invites consideration of contemporary domesticity's evolving relationship with openness and transparency, asking how privacy and enclosure operate within such expansive spatial volumes, and how decorative elements function to create intimacy and personal expression within architectural frameworks that privilege clarity, order, and restraint, the space ultimately proposing a synthesis where modernist spatial principles accommodate human needs for beauty, warmth, and connection to natural and cultural narratives that enrich daily dwelling.
