About Motivator Factory Office Building
The design of the factory office emphasizes sustainability and a modern aesthetic. It utilizes natural energy sources and environmentally friendly materials for practical purposes. Curved shapes, inspired by the portability of lithium batteries, enhance the flow of the space. The color scheme is reflective of Kaohsiung's climate, aiming to inspire creativity. The office includes acoustic treatments for comfort and employs 3D modeling to ensure the smooth integration of features. Overall, this design shows that sustainable choices can create a productive and innovative work environment.
Chiao-Yi, Tang's Motivator Factory Office Building engages contemporary workplace design discourse that has fundamentally reimagined the office environment from hierarchical cellular divisions toward open collaborative ecosystems, a transformation accelerated by technology sector pioneers and now embraced across diverse industries seeking to foster innovation, transparency, and human connection within daily work experience. This interior demonstrates sophisticated compositional intelligence through its integration of functional zoning, circulation choreography, and sensory experience, revealing how thoughtful spatial design transcends mere aesthetic arrangement to shape behavior, support productivity, and communicate organizational values. The dramatic curved lighting elements suspended overhead represent a notable formal achievement, transforming utilitarian illumination into sculptural gesture that defines spatial character and establishes visual identity, these luminous arcs functioning simultaneously as wayfinding device, zone demarcator, and aesthetic signature while maintaining the practical imperative of providing appropriate task illumination across varied work settings. The perforated panel system demonstrates technical facility in balancing competing demands of acoustic privacy, visual connection, spatial definition, and material efficiency, the circular apertures creating dynamic optical texture that enlivens vertical surfaces while permitting sight lines and airflow, their rhythmic distribution suggesting digital patterning or parametric design processes applied to functional workplace infrastructure. The chromatic strategy of vibrant yellow against cool neutral gray reveals sophisticated color psychology application, the warm energetic yellow associated with optimism, creativity, clarity, and intellectual stimulation providing concentrated visual vitality that counterbalances the potentially austere quality of industrial materials and monochromatic surfaces, this juxtaposition creating environmental liveliness without overwhelming sensory repose necessary for sustained concentration. The work surface configuration suggests flexible arrangements supporting both focused individual work and spontaneous collaborative exchange, the modular clusters permitting reconfiguration as team structures and project needs evolve, while task seating emphasizes ergonomic support through mesh backing and adjustable mechanisms that prioritize human comfort across extended work sessions. The spatial openness, marked by minimal full-height barriers and generous sight lines across the environment, reflects contemporary organizational philosophy emphasizing transparency, accessibility, egalitarianism, and cross-functional collaboration, the dissolution of traditional private offices and rigid departmental boundaries manifesting physically in permeable flowing space where movement, interaction, and informal encounter become normalized rather than exceptional. One observes how the interplay of structure and openness, privacy and connection, industrial materiality and human-scaled comfort creates environments that honor both organizational efficiency and individual human experience, suggesting that workplace design at its most accomplished serves not merely functional requirement but existential dimension of how we spend our professional lives and construct meaning through daily labor and creative contribution.

- Production Technology
- We integrated four conical discussion pods into the open office, each 3.6 meters in diameter and 3.5 meters high. With perforated surfaces and acoustic panels, which provide semi-private spaces and reduce noise. A steel framework supports the structure, and staggered perforations conceal the framework. Using 3D software, we aligned openings for precise fitting. After testing various panels, each unit was pre-assembled, labeled, and installed on-site for effective and comfortable spaces.
- Design Challenge
- The most challenge during the project development was the conflict between the forward thinking ideas and the conservative needs. While decision makers wanted to try some new office elements, but the users preferred to retain the old work habits, which made persuasion a significant challenge. In terms of design, for the large space and the higher requirements of material selection and technical implementation.
- Project Duration
- The design process was from January to November 2022 in Taipei, and the on-site work was from September 2022 to July 2023.The project completed in July 2023, in Kaohsiung.
- Operation Flow
- The office layout focuses on education, interaction, and independent work. Central areas encourage frequent interaction, while quiet corners provide space for focused tasks. Inspired by European and American offices, the design creates a welcoming atmosphere. Circular elements guide the flow, with educational and communication spaces at the core. Curved designs offer comfort, while local colors and natural views promote restful environments for stress relief.
- Research
- This study explores office space design to improve work efficiency, employee comfort, and create an inclusive atmosphere. Using a qualitative approach, data was collected through observations, interviews, and surveys. Findings showed that open spaces encourage interaction, while private areas aid focus. These insights can enhance productivity, satisfaction, and promote flexible work environments, helping design professionals address employee needs.
- Inspiration
- The design reflects the portability of lithium batteries, the vibrant colors of Kaohsiung, and the bold nature of people. It embodies green sustainability, extending from renewable energy to architecture and interior design. Circular elements and sustainable materials create a dynamic, energizing workspace that aligns with the future of green living.
