About Multivision Porsche Shanghai Photography Artwork
Multivision Porsche Shanghai is a photography artwork series created for Porsche China. Each image combines three photographs in a single frame through multiple exposure. The series shows the different faces of Shanghai, from traditional Chinese districts and the architecture of the Former French Concession to modern glass and steel buildings. A sports car appears in every picture and stays recognisable despite the layered surroundings. The images were made with digital photography and are produced as fine-art prints mounted on aluminium composite panels in limited editions.
Florian W. Mueller's Multivision Porsche Shanghai Photography Artwork emerges from a rich tradition of experimental urban photography that explores the intersection of precision engineering and organic urban environments through innovative composite techniques. The work demonstrates exceptional technical sophistication in its seamless layering of multiple exposures, creating a visual texture that suggests the accumulated experience of place across time rather than a single frozen instant. Mueller's compositional strategy positions the sleek automotive form as a contemporary constant against the flux of daily life—pedestrians become spectral presences, architectural details echo and multiply, and the boundary between moments dissolves into a unified visual experience. The chromatic achievement proves particularly noteworthy: warm earth tones of aged plaster and sun-warmed concrete create harmonic tension with the cool metallic blue of the vehicle, while verdant accents of climbing plants and street trees introduce organic counterpoint to manufactured surfaces. The work invites consideration of how contemporary luxury objects exist within and against historical urban fabric, suggesting dialogue rather than displacement between new and established elements. Technical mastery extends to the careful calibration of transparency and opacity throughout the layered elements, maintaining readability while achieving the characteristic shimmer that distinguishes this photographic approach. Viewers might contemplate how the multiple-exposure technique transforms documentary observation into something approaching meditation—the accumulated visual information suggesting not just what a place looks like but how it feels to inhabit it over extended duration. What temporal rhythms and spatial harmonies emerge when the camera captures not the decisive moment but the accumulated texture of ongoing life?

- Unique Properties
- Porsche China asked me if I’d like to shoot in Shanghai and create some artwork for the PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai, including their iconic sportscars.
I created pictures in the style of my “Multivision” series to show the various vibrant faces of this great city.
It's multiple exposure photography, always three photographies in one picture. - Dimensions & Packaging
- Different Artworks in different sizes, all in limited editions
- Tags
- Shanghai, China, Porsche, multiple exposure, photography
- Production Technology
- Digital photography, the artworks are finished as Fine-Art prints, mounted on Alu-Dibond.
- Design Challenge
- The challenge was the weather and to find locations, where a multiple exposure of Shanghai gives a good view to the different faces of the city.
- Project Duration
- Location-Scouting and Shooting: 10 days, 10 more days for postproduction
- Operation Flow
- 1. Digital location scouting via internet, Google Earth, etc.
2. Physical location scouting in Shanghai
3. Shooting in the streets of Shanghai
4. Post Production - Research
- The project started with a call from Porsche China. I created a concept and did the creative direction. All in all, I didn't have much time, there were about 3 months between the creation of the concept and the exhibition for Porsche's 70th birthday at Photofairs Shanghai.
- Inspiration
- Shanghai has many different faces. You can find the old, traditional China, the influences of France in the "Former French Concession" and of course very modern glass and steel architecture.
I wanted to capture these different faces of the city in multiple exposures, always with a Porsche in the picture. Because no matter how distorted the environment appears through the multiple exposure, you can always recognize the iconic design of the Porsche. - Image Credits
