About Oriental Lanting Cabinet Series
Oriental Lanting is a kitchen cabinet series designed to support interaction among family members. The layout links the living room, the light dinner preparation zone, the Chinese kitchen and the balcony washing area. A dual-faced cabinet has a through-type opening at its center that acts as a food pass-through and an interaction window, so spaces are both divided and connected. Walk-in corridor doors with concealed hinges conceal the kitchen and balcony. New surface materials and hot pressing create soft curved edges and a solid wood appearance.
Guangzhou Holike Creative Home Co.,Ltd.'s Cabinet Series articulates a compelling synthesis of material heritage and contemporary spatial requirements, positioning itself within the ongoing dialogue between traditional craftsmanship values and modern functional demands that characterizes thoughtful residential design in the early twenty-first century. The design demonstrates considerable compositional intelligence through its asymmetrical yet balanced arrangement, where the sculptural island element with its flowing organic-edged stone surface and robust cylindrical wooden supports establishes a gravitational center that anchors the surrounding rectilinear cabinetry systems without dominating through scale alone, instead achieving prominence through formal contrast and material distinction. Technical execution reveals sophisticated understanding of cabinetry construction principles, evidenced by the precise panel alignment, consistent reveal spacing between drawer and door fronts, and the integration of glass-fronted upper cabinets that provide functional storage while maintaining visual transparency and allowing curated display of culinary implements and vessels, a strategy that balances concealment with revelation and suggests confidence in the edited contents worthy of viewing. The chromatic discipline exercised throughout the space demonstrates mature design sensibility, restricting the palette primarily to the warm medium tones of natural wood, cool neutral white architectural surfaces, and transparent gray glass, a triadic material strategy that creates visual coherence while providing sufficient tonal variation to define distinct functional zones and prevent monotony. The choice of wood species with pronounced linear grain patterns contributes textural richness and organic warmth that counterbalances the geometric precision of the overall formal language, while the white stone island surface introduces both practical work area and symbolic center for gathering and food preparation rituals. Particularly accomplished passages include the tall storage column at right integrating full-height pantry storage with eye-level appliance housings in a unified vertical element that maximizes spatial efficiency while maintaining facade continuity, and the left wall's open shelving alcove with integrated task lighting that transforms functional storage into compositional focal point through careful arrangement of vessels and objects. Thematically, the design appears to explore the intersection of efficiency and contemplation within domestic space, suggesting that the contemporary kitchen transcends purely utilitarian function to become a site of daily ritual, aesthetic pleasure, and material engagement, where the acts of preparing, sharing, and consuming food occur within an environment that honors these activities through thoughtful spatial organization and material selection. The work invites consideration of how residential interiors shape and reflect the rhythms of daily life, and how design choices concerning materiality, proportion, and spatial flow either support or hinder the human activities they shelter, encouraging viewers to contemplate the relationships between functional requirements, aesthetic aspirations, and the embodied experience of moving through and inhabiting domestic environments.

- Project Duration
- The project finished in December 2024 in Guangzhou.
- Operation Flow
- The living-kitchen dual-faced cabinet combines multiple functions: food pass-through window, light-dinner prep zone, washing zone, item storage zone, etc. The balcony themed cabinet is divided into different zones according to functions and workflow, providing a convenient laundry experience. The Chinese kitchen space features golden circulation paths for efficient cooking and storage. The living room, Zen Tea-themed, offers a platform for physical and mental relief and friend meetings.
- Research
- This series aims to build healthy kitchen spaces through innovation in three aspects: interactive scenario space, humanized functional design, and scientific storage design.
