About Qwork Pod Office Furniture
Qwork Pod is a hexagonal office pod designed to protect workers from viral infection. The honeycomb-like unit can be grouped to suit different spatial needs and office layouts. Each pod measures 250 cm in width, 220 cm in length and 250 cm in height. - Unique Properties
- The Qwork pod is an anti-infection Hexagonal hive like office solution, which offers flexibility to suit different spatial needs, and can be customized to fit any office layout. It features an automatic handless airtight acrylic door, controlled by facial recognition, and ventilation fans with built-in air purifiers. The pod is envisioned as made of hygiene friendly non-porous nanomaterials that protect the pod user from viral infection.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The Qwork Pod is a hexagonal unit of dimensions 250 cm (W) by 220 cm (L) by 250 cm (H). It is made of a solid polymethyl methacrylate or (PMMA) & natural mineral aluminum hydroxide (ATH) composite and natural pigments, such composites are extremely resistance to dirt, viruses, bacteria and numerous chemicals and are used normally in healthcare sector for its hygienic properties.

- Production Technology
- The Pod features a solid body made of polymethyl methacrylate and natural mineral aluminum hydroxide composite, with improved thermoplastic mouldability, and improved hygienic properties. The outer body of the pod is coated in Nano-based antiviral antibacterial coating, to prevent the transmission of disease between high touch surfaces. Another alternative to the coating, is using Graphene oxide (GO) sheets with silver particles in the cladding the pods, to prevent viral infection.
- Design Challenge
- The main design problem addressed was how to offer protection from Covid19 infection to essential workers.
- Project Duration
- The Project started in March 2020 in Cairo, and ended in April 2020 in Cairo.
- Operation Flow
- The pod owner approaches the pod, it detects his/her face, it automatically operates, opening the door, operating the fans and filters, and turning on the light. It shuts the door automatically upon entry, and stays operative for as long as the work time continues. Upon leaving the pod the pod shuts down and doesn't open until he/she returns.
- Research
- Research was done on the methods of infection of Covid19. The research took place online from trusted medical sources, relying mainly on the World Health Organization data and other respected international medical organizations. Studies on the Antiviral Coatings that can prevent COVID-19 Like Pandemics was also referred to.
- Inspiration
- With the world under lock-down for an extended period of time, some essential businesses still has to keep at least the bare minimum of its workforce, working physically on site to provide necessary and vital supplies for the health supply chain.
Qworkntine envisions a solution for these essential businesses and production lines, by providing safe isolated pods for workers who has to be physically located at their workplaces, where they can work while avoiding the risk of infection.
