About Shanghai Qian Mo Fu Restaurant Interior Design
Nestled within the heart of Shanghai's bustling Bund, the Shanghai Qian Mo Fu Restaurant melds the tranquility of natural landscapes with modernization. Embodying themes of mountains, forests, and valleys, the restaurant flawlessly integrates the serenity of the natural environment with the urban concrete construction, infusing the metropolitan hustle with a breath of tranquility. The oriental and elegant design paints a landscape imbued with poetic fluidity. Classic red, a hue steeped in oriental allure, setting an ambiance that is magnificent and opulent.
Within the continuum of contemporary hospitality design, Liu Hong's interior for Shanghai Qian Mo Fu Restaurant represents a masterful synthesis of Eastern spatial philosophy and Western material sensibility, creating an environment that transcends mere functional accommodation to achieve genuine architectural poetry. The designer appears to engage with traditional concepts of threshold and transition, employing the semicircular arch as both physical passage and symbolic portal that prepares guests for transformative culinary experience beyond. The chromatic decision to saturate the entire spatial envelope in deep crimson demonstrates remarkable confidence, drawing upon the color's cultural associations with celebration, prosperity, and auspicious gathering while avoiding cliché through the sophistication of its tonal modulation from brilliant scarlet in illuminated zones to near-burgundy in shadowed recesses. The stone reception counter functions as material counterpoint and spatial anchor, its natural veining providing organic complexity against the manufactured uniformity of the surrounding surfaces while its substantial geometric form establishes a vocabulary of permanence and quality that communicates the establishment's aspirational positioning. The ceiling treatment merits particular attention for its innovative approach to surface articulation, these undulating forms suggesting water, silk, or perhaps the organic patterns of traditional lacquerwork translated into three-dimensional relief. The integration of reflective floor surfaces demonstrates sophisticated understanding of spatial perception, effectively doubling the visual height of the semicircular opening while creating contemplative moments as visitors encounter their own reflected presence within this carefully orchestrated environment. One might consider how this space choreographs arrival and anticipation, using light, color, and material to elevate the threshold experience into ceremony.

- Production Technology
- The restaurant is mainly constructed with rammed earth, glass, and terrazzo. Rammed earth has been a traditional and original construction material that underscores a natural, environmental-friendly approach to reconstructing traditions. The juxtaposition of water-patterned metallic materials and rammed earth is a contemplative dialogue between the old and new, with the rippled metal and mirrors rendering an airy and dreamy feeling, casting illusory reflections of the space itself.
- Design Challenge
- The ceiling’s holistic design approach elegantly blends diversity with distinctive features, and the mirrored metal forms constantly changing reflections when people walk through the space. During construction, the implementation of rammed earth for the walls posed a great challenge, especially for the wall. Fortunately, after dozens of trials to perfect the texture’s color, the application was carried out at one go not even leaving one flaw.
- Project Duration
