About Taisi Personal Residence

Taisi is a private residence located in Taoyuan City, Taiwan. The home covers 83 square meters with a ceiling height of 2.6 meters. Rain tree wood, Taiwan cypress, lotos plaster, tatami and bricks from Toki City in Japan form a calm and vintage interior. The design draws on the Taoyuan Martyrs' Shrine, a building that combines Chinese, Japanese and Taiwanese styles. An open circulation plan and wide windows let light reveal the texture of wood and walls. The kitchen can be opened or closed as needed. The residence also serves as a place for business meetings and family gatherings.

Design Challenge
The hostess hoped to have a functional kitchen that can be both opened and closed. Therefore, the kitchen is designed to create a vintage and peaceful atmosphere. The height of the house presented a great challenge for us because the structure forms several conflict zones; however, we ensured to maintain the space in a relaxed and comfortable way by constructing close to the floor. From design to completion, this original work reflected every detail that was communicated with the owners.
Project Duration
The project started in Oct 2018, and finished in April 2019, located at Taoyuan City in Taiwan.
Operation Flow
In our vision, the place can serve as a meeting place for business and partying place for friends and family.
Research
An open traffic flow; we combined the design techniques of various materials to further uncover the texture of wood grain and wall through the light and shadow of the window, thereby providing space brightness and roominess.
Inspiration
This inspiration comes from Taoyuan Martyrs' Shrine. Taoyuan Martyrs' Shrine is situated on Hutou Mountain in Taoyuan City; it was completed in 1938 and was formerly the "Taoyuan Shinto Shrine" back during the Japanese colonial era.
The architectural style encompasses the old ways of the ancient Chinese Tang dynasty, Japanese style, and contemporary Taiwanese style, it breathes a serene atmosphere and symbolizes the martyrs' lofty sentiments and aspirations. which even more emphasizes its solemn and stately character.
