About Unheardible Music Competition Branding
D-bue is a special kind of music competition: every two years, selected students from German music academies present their individual artistic ideas in a series of concerts. Bloom has developed a customised communication concept for this special format. The focus is on a dynamic sound sculpture created from a 3D sound visualisation. It takes the human ear as its starting point and moulds itself along the sound logo developed for the competition as a symbol of the experimental, the unheard. The neologism Unheardible complements the visual and ensures visibility and recognisability.
Bloom advertising agency's Unheardible Music Competition Branding emerges from the rich tradition of event identity design that seeks to translate ephemeral auditory experience into compelling visual form, engaging with the fundamental challenge of representing music through static imagery while maintaining the dynamism and emotional intensity inherent to live performance. The work demonstrates sophisticated command of contemporary digital design techniques, employing a luminous gradient that shifts through the visible spectrum in a manner evocative of synesthetic experience, where color becomes a metaphorical stand-in for tonal variation and emotional progression. The explosive central motif, rendered as a constellation of angular geometric fragments radiating outward with centrifugal force, may suggest the transformative moment when sound erupts into space, capturing the instantaneous quality of musical attack while implying the sustained resonance that follows. Technical accomplishment is evident throughout, from the precise calibration of the chromatic gradient that maintains visual interest across its full range to the careful modeling of the three-dimensional shards that creates convincing depth and materiality. The typographic treatment balances boldness with elegance, the vertical stacking creating visual rhythm that echoes musical notation while ensuring immediate legibility of essential information. The composition achieves that delicate equilibrium between aesthetic sophistication and functional communication that defines successful event branding, inviting contemplation while delivering practical information efficiently. This work invites viewers to consider how visual design might serve as overture to auditory experience, preparing audiences for encounters with the unexpected and the transformative.

- Production Technology
- The central key visual is an audio-synced animation based on a specially developed sound logo. In 3D software, the model of a human ear was modeled along this sound data as a dynamic sculpture. The final teaser animation was then created in specialized animation software. In this way, the acoustic experience was precisely translated into a visual form.
- Design Challenge
- The biggest challenge was to do justice to the creative force and stylistic diversity of the participants with just one key visual and a holistic communication framework. This one image had to convey the visionary, the unheard of of the competition, communicate at eye level - and at the same time act as an identity-forming umbrella both internally and externally and arouse the interest of the public.
- Project Duration
- From February 2024, the D-bue communication concept became visible step by step: venues, organizing team and jury were presented, followed in March by the ensembles with their visionary projects. Interviews and background reports made the anticipation tangible. From the end of March: ticket sales and insights into the contributions. In May, the campaign reached the public space. From May 28 to June 1, the concerts could then be experienced live - digitally accompanied until the award ceremony.
- Operation Flow
- The communication concept makes the competition visible, accompanies it for months, provides information, arouses curiosity and increases anticipation. It brings audiences and artists together online, in public spaces and on site. It explains the process, introduces participants, provides orientation at the concerts and gives the competition a strong, recognizable face - from the kick-off to the award ceremony.
- Inspiration
- The aim was to make D-bue visible and audible to the public and participants alike as an innovative music competition in order to generate attention, boost ticket sales and visualize the cultural claim. Bloom developed a communication concept based on the event's sound logo and translated it into a striking visual. The ear as a dynamic sound sculpture communicates the core promise: an unheard musical experience. The result is a clear and unmistakable visual language that reflects the diversity and creative energy.
