About Virg Casa Headquarters Exhibition Hall
Virg Casa Headquarters is a corporate headquarters and exhibition space in Foshan, China. The four-storey building is a renovation of an older structure and covers 4,000 square metres. The first and second floors display imported products and own-label products. The third and fourth floors serve as working and reception areas. The open plan arranges functional areas along axes to extend the line of sight. Modern materials are used, including stainless steel, acrylic glass, artistic cement paint, cement brick and ceramic plate.
Within the evolving discourse of contemporary commercial architecture, Xiaoshui Li and Zhike Wang's design for the Virg Casa Headquarters Exhibition Hall emerges as a distinguished meditation on materiality, light, and spatial sequence. The architects appear to engage deeply with the phenomenological tradition of architecture, where the experience of moving through space becomes as significant as the formal composition itself. The strategic deployment of a restricted achromatic palette, ranging from luminous whites through subtle greys to dramatic charcoal tones, demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how value contrast can articulate spatial depth and direct experiential focus without reliance upon chromatic variety. The calacatta marble reception element, with its organic grey veining, introduces natural pattern within geometric discipline, suggesting dialogue between human intervention and material authenticity. Particularly noteworthy is the treatment of the ceiling plane, where mirrored panels create spatial ambiguity and vertical multiplication, a technique resonant with traditions of baroque spatial illusion reinterpreted through minimalist sensibility. The suspended light fixtures, with their sinuous brass armatures and luminous glass spheres, function as kinetic sculpture within the architectural void, their organic curves providing essential counterpoint to the predominant orthogonal geometry. This interplay between the organic and the geometric, the warm metallic and the cool mineral, the reflective and the absorptive, creates a rich experiential environment within apparent simplicity. The work invites consideration of how contemporary commercial spaces might transcend mere functionality to offer moments of aesthetic contemplation and spatial poetry. What relationships between light and surface, between solid and void, between movement and stillness, does this environment cultivate within its visitors?

- Unique Properties
- Through fusion of art and technology as well as incorporation of most frequently used materials into interpretation of scenes, the design injects vitality into products and can evoke visitors' imagination with an open spatial form. The areas that display imported products from Italian brands including Ferrari are characterized by coordinated combination of materials, hues and furnishings, which reproduce the pioneering display art at Milan Furniture Fair.

- Production Technology
- As a "building material capital", Foshan enjoys a unique advantage in the Research and development and customization of new materials. A large number of modern and new building materials are used in the project, such as stainless steel, acrylic glass, artistic cement paint, cement brick and ceramic plate.
While designing the "City of the Future" on the 2nd floor, the design team took the bearing capacity of floor slabs into account, and hence chose lightweight stainless-steel materials for production. - Design Challenge
- While designing the "City of the Future" on the 2nd floor, the designers took the bearing capacity of floor slabs into account, and chose lightweight stainless-steel for production. However, the designers encountered with great difficulties during the production. Since the stainless steel is so hard that is suitable for making linear splicing and geometric shapes, it can only be processed by linear cutting, welding and machine polishing rather than getting the copies from the grotesque molds.
