About White Sequence Residence

White Sequence is a residential interior design for a 99.1 square meter apartment in a high-rise building. The layout was opened to link the kitchen, dining and living areas, and a round table guides circulation. Curved edges on the television wall and at transitional points soften rigid angles, and indirect lighting follows the curves. Storage is consolidated into L-shaped cabinetry along the corridors to preserve openness. Italian mineral coating, white oak grain and matte panels shape the calm white palette.

White Sequence Residence emerges from a design philosophy that honors the contemplative dimensions of domestic space, positioning itself within contemporary discourse surrounding minimalism as not merely aesthetic reduction but rather as a path toward spatial and psychological clarity. This residence demonstrates sophisticated engagement with traditions established through Scandinavian functionalism, Japanese ma (negative space consciousness), and the material honesty advocated by mid-century modernist pioneers, synthesizing these influences into a cohesive spatial language suited to contemporary living patterns that value openness, flexibility, and serene atmospheres conducive to both social gathering and solitary reflection. The technical accomplishment evident throughout reveals meticulous attention to proportion, material junction, and the choreography of natural light, with particularly successful passages visible in the fluted timber paneling that provides rhythmic visual interest without disrupting spatial calm, in the curved sofa configuration that softens orthogonal rigor while maintaining compositional clarity, and in the layered lighting strategy that combines sculptural fixture design with the atmospheric qualities of daylight filtered through textile planes. The chromatic restraint, operating almost entirely within variations of white, cream, and pale timber tones, demonstrates sophisticated color sensitivity, as subtle warmth in wood grain and textile prevents the space from reading as clinical while maintaining the luminous openness that appears central to the design intention. Thematically, this environment invites consideration of dwelling as refuge from sensory overload, proposing that carefully edited material palette and generous spatial volume can support psychological well-being and mindful inhabitation, the space seems to celebrate rituals of daily life through the dignified presentation of dining, gathering, and repose zones without hierarchical emphasis. The integration of organic curves within predominantly rectilinear architecture suggests awareness of biophilic design principles, introducing forms that echo natural growth patterns and human ergonomics as counterpoint to the rational geometry of constructed space. One observes potential dialogue with the wabi-sabi appreciation for subtle imperfection and natural material expression, visible in the choice to celebrate rather than conceal wood grain variation and in the embrace of soft, diffused light over dramatic chiaroscuro effects. The open spatial configuration reflects contemporary preferences for flexible domestic environments that accommodate evolving uses while maintaining visual and experiential coherence. How might such deliberate spatial and material restraint shape the quality of attention inhabitants bring to daily activities, and what forms of domestic ritual or contemplative practice does this environment quietly encourage through its atmospheric suggestions of calm, its invitation to slower movement through generous volumes, and its provision of both social gathering zones and opportunities for visual rest within fields of luminous neutrality?

Unique Properties
The design emphasizes curvature, with rounded edges on the TV wall and transitional points softening rigid angles. Indirect lighting follows the curves, turning white into textured illumination, crisp and translucent by day, warm and serene by night. Storage is consolidated into L-shaped cabinetry along corridors, preserving openness. The dining and kitchen were opened, with a round table guiding natural circulation and serving as a stable visual anchor.
Dimensions & Packaging
The 99.1 m2 residence, originally a 3 plus 1 layout, was redesigned to open the kitchen and living-dining areas. The open plan enhances cooking visibility and social interaction. The master bedroom incorporates adjacent surplus space to form a full dressing area, improving private functionality. Corridor walls are recessed and integrated with cabinetry, eliminating narrowness and guiding daylight deeper, creating a cohesive spatial axis throughout the home.

Production Technology
White is transformed into a multisensory experience. The TV wall and entry backdrop feature Italian mineral coating, whose microporous texture reveals delicate gradations under light. Cabinetry blends white oak grain with matte anti-fingerprint panels, balancing purity with tactile warmth and durability. Muted pink and soft beige furnishings provide subtle accents, adding layered rhythm to the calm, cohesive palette.
Design Challenge
The primary challenge lay in achieving precision under minimalist form. To maintain façade clarity, every cabinet joint, handle dimension, and finishing detail required millimeter-level accuracy to avoid visual discontinuity. The integration of curved ceilings and continuous lighting demanded close coordination across trades. Curvature consistency and seamless illumination were essential to achieve the smooth, flawless quality of light across continuous surfaces.
Project Duration
The project finished in August 2025 in Taiwan.
Operation Flow
After moving in, the homeowner most deeply appreciated the intuitive rhythm of movement. Highly integrated storage allows daily belongings to return naturally to their place without disrupting visual clarity. Predefined lighting scenes and furniture placement give the home a composed, photographic quality at any moment. Particularly when looking from the kitchen toward the social area, the open sightline transforms meal preparation into a shared experience, embodying the principle that design serves life.
Research
The 33.1 m2 residence treats 'white' as a layered medium, replacing decoration with a 'vessel of light.' Curved elements and rounded corners dissolve rigid boundaries, guiding light like water. The open kitchen-dining area and L-shaped integrated storage reduce fragmentation. Italian mineral coating and white oak grain balance coolness and warmth, creating a mist-like translucence by day and a gentle glow at night, making architecture a soft container for emotion and time.
Inspiration
Located in a high-rise with ample daylight, the 99.1 m2 residence emphasizes purity over style. Centered on 'layers of white,' the design favors spatial fluidity and visual continuity rather than decoration. Curved lines and integrated functionality transform daily circulation into a continuous visual sequence, allowing residents to experience the narrative quality of the space with each movement and turn.
