About Xi Feng Jiu Tian Qi Baijiu Packaging

Xi Feng Jiu Tian Qi is a packaging design for a premium Chinese baijiu. The bottle is made of local crystal, electroplated with gold and finished with laser engraved patterns. The cap is made of aluminium alloy and set with crystal diamond cuts. The form of the cap draws on the phoenix crown worn by brides in ancient China. The gift box is made of acrylic and has a distinctive shape. The lid rises like a curtain and gradually reveals the bottle. The movement recalls the lifting of the red veil in traditional Chinese weddings.

Wen Liu's Xi Feng Jiu Tian Qi Baijiu Packaging exemplifies contemporary approaches to heritage spirits presentation, where packaging transcends protective function to become ceremonial object and cultural ambassador, positioning traditional beverage within global luxury goods conventions while maintaining distinctive regional identity through chromatic choices, ornamental vocabulary, and material sensibility. This accomplished design navigates the complex territory between reverence for established iconographic traditions and contemporary aesthetic refinement, employing a restrained yet sumptuous material palette that communicates both celebration and sophistication. The compositional achievement resides in the elegant asymmetrical relationship between container and contained, the substantial architectural presence of the turquoise box with its generous circular aperture functioning as both window and frame, revealing the curved metallic interior element that echoes the bottle's shoulder geometry while establishing visual continuity between protective exterior and precious interior. The chromatic sophistication demonstrates mastery of limited palette deployment, where the saturated turquoise blue carries multiple cultural resonances—suggesting both the precious mineral turquoise with its historical significance across numerous traditions and the celadon-jade spectrum central to certain aesthetic lineages—while the warm metallic champagne tones provide necessary temperature contrast and associations with prestige, quality, and timeless value. Technical merit appears notably in the integration of diverse material expressions within unified design language: transparent glass faceting that captures and refracts ambient light, creating dynamic visual interest through geometric multiplication; satin-finished metallic surfaces that receive calligraphic inscription with clarity while maintaining subtle luminosity; embossed surface patterns that activate both box and bottle through low-relief texture adding tactile dimension; and the extraordinary filigree crown with its openwork scrolling forms and carefully positioned gemstone accents that transforms functional closure into sculptural culmination. The fluted lower bottle geometry suggests architectural column traditions or organic petal arrangements, establishing vertical rhythm through repeating concave facets that both strengthen the glass structure and create mesmerizing light-play, while the shoulders' curve provides graceful transition from dynamic lower geometry to stable cylindrical neck, a formal resolution that speaks to thoughtful proportional relationships and understanding of visual weight distribution. The packaging box's embossed cloud scroll or ruyi motifs reference enduring decorative traditions, their subtle dimensional presence enriching surface without overwhelming the essential geometric clarity, demonstrating restrained ornamental deployment that honors heritage without resorting to literal replication. Thematic resonances encompass celebration and ceremony, the elevation of consumption into ritual, the container as gift and keepsake deserving preservation, and the convergence of utilitarian object and art object within material culture. This work invites consideration of how contemporary design practice negotiates tradition and innovation, how regional cultural specificity can achieve global luxury legibility, how packaging communicates brand narrative through formal choices rather than explicit messaging, and how the designed object mediates between heritage craft traditions and industrial production capabilities, asking viewers to contemplate the role of beauty in functional objects and the capacity of thoughtful design to transform everyday experience into moments of aesthetic appreciation and cultural connection.
