About Yun Chi Gu Xing Jiang Wild Luxury Resort

Yun Chi Gu Xing Jiang is a resort interior design located on the Karajun Grassland. The project covers 1,456 square metres and combines nomadic heritage with modern comfort. Existing timber structures are preserved through a non-intrusive approach. Geometry from Bagua City and motifs from the Kizil Grottoes murals are translated into bespoke interior elements. Twenty-five luxury tents in eight styles use floor-to-ceiling glazing to frame the alpine scenery. Local textures and woven lighting and furniture support a calm retreat.

Production Technology
The project employs a "non-intrusive" construction strategy, preserving existing timber structures while integrating modern high-performance materials. We deconstructed Bagua City’s geometry and Kizil Grottoes motifs using digital modeling to create bespoke interior elements. 25 luxury tents feature expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing to dissolve indoor-outdoor boundaries. By blending raw, local textures with contemporary weaving techniques for lighting and furniture, the design achieves a dialogue between nomadic history and modern luxury.
Design Challenge
The primary challenge was "invisible intervention" in a protected wilderness. Internally, deconstructing Silk Road history into modern luxury required balancing heritage with nomadic spirit. Externally, the remote Karajun location presented extreme logistics and limited infrastructure. We overcame these by utilizing digital modeling to adapt traditional timber structures and implementing high-performance glazing. This allowed us to preserve the ecological site while meeting premium hospitality standards.
Project Duration
Project Duration: Five Months
Project Location: Kerganbulak Village, Kalatuohai Town, Tekes County, Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Karajun Grassland.
Operation Flow
The design optimizes spatial flow through "spiritual nomadism," guiding guests from restored timber reception areas to 25 secluded luxury tents. Large floor-to-ceiling windows act as dynamic interfaces, blurring indoor-outdoor boundaries to integrate shifting alpine light and scenery. The layout facilitates a seamless transition between private retreats and communal bonfire areas. By employing high-performance glazing and local textures, the project ensures superior climate comfort and emotional healing.
Research
This qualitative study aims to harmonize nomadic culture with luxury hospitality. Using field surveys and digital deconstruction, we analyzed Tianshan’s timber structures and Bagua City’s geometry. Data from local artisans guided the integration of Kizil mural motifs. Findings show that "non-intrusive" design, using 25 narrative tents, maximizes emotional healing. Insight: blending heritage with glazing dissolves boundaries, creating a scalable model for sustainable, high-end cultural tourism.
Inspiration
The inspiration stems from Karajun’s wilderness and nomadic heritage. Driven by "invisible intervention," the motive is to honor the Tianshan landscape by blurring the line between architecture and nature. Drawing from Bagua City’s geometry and Kizil Grottoes murals, the design translates Silk Road history into modern luxury. Research focuses on deconstructing local timber structures to create a non-intrusive sanctuary for spiritual healing and a profound return to the wild.
