About Zhangtai Haitang Bay Sales Center

Zhangtai Haitang Bay is a sales center located in Beihai, Guangxi, China. The interior covers 2206 square meters and serves a residential project next to Dadun Sea. The design blurs the boundaries between architecture, art and culture, and brings the space closer to nature. Large white surfaces extend the interior, while smooth curves follow the form of the building. Spiral stairs and interspersed curves pass between different building materials. The spatial layout is kept flexible, because the center is planned to serve as a community clubhouse in the future.

Within the evolving landscape of contemporary commercial architecture, 31 Design Shenzhen's Zhangtai Haitang Bay Sales Center emerges as a compelling meditation on the poetics of circulation and the transformative potential of sculptural form within retail environments. The designers appear to engage deliberately with traditions of organic modernism and parametric spatial practice, crafting an interior where a monumental helical staircase transcends its functional purpose to become the defining experiential and aesthetic element of the space. The technical accomplishment evidenced in the seamless white balustrade walls, which curve with mathematical precision yet organic fluidity, suggests sophisticated fabrication processes and meticulous attention to surface continuity, while the biomorphic ceiling aperture through which the staircase ascends demonstrates bold spatial manipulation that transforms conventional ceiling planes into active compositional participants. The chromatic strategy of near-total white saturation, relieved only by the subtle grey veining of marble treads and the warm taupe of polished flooring, creates an environment of remarkable visual clarity where form itself becomes the primary subject of contemplation. One might observe how the cylindrical supporting columns, rendered in soft grey concrete, establish a measured rhythm that contextualizes the central sculptural gesture without competing for attention, embodying principles of architectural hierarchy and spatial orchestration. The quality of light suffusing the interior, apparently entering through the ceiling void and supplemented by concealed ambient sources, achieves that particular luminosity associated with gallery spaces and sacred architecture, suggesting the designers understood light as essential material rather than mere functional necessity. This work invites consideration of how commercial spaces might aspire to the experiential richness typically reserved for cultural institutions, transforming transactional environments into occasions for aesthetic encounter and spatial wonder.

Production Technology
A large area of white design extends the space in a serene and pure fashion, and the smooth curves outline the enchanting beauty of the building. Spiral ladders create an air of other-worldly magic and make you feel like wandering on the clouds.
Design Challenge
The highlight of this case lies in the rare ecological sea views and the expressive curved ramp at the bottom of the building in concert with the long shoreline of the Silver Beach. The main part of the architecture has an ascending trend that echoes with the theme of “Bright Moon Rising Above the Sea”.
Project Duration
The project started in July 2019 in Beihai, Guangxi, China and finished in August 2019.
Operation Flow
Multiple interspersed curves transit naturally by using different building materials. The border of architecture and interior space no longer exists, and the large area of transition offers a huge visual impact to visitors.
Research
The sales center is not only used for marketing and reception at present, but also intended for the community clubhouse in the future. It will be equipped with more facilities for the sake of project owners for long. Therefore, the designers give priority to the flexibility of spatial organization and functional requirements when designing the center. The benchmark for a successful design is set based on the scenes that promise a better life and emotional comfort.
Inspiration
Except for a combination of architectural structures and beautiful sea views, the design team profoundly redefines the concept of a real estate sales center and reshapes the business culture. The interior design gets rid of the conventional impression of sales center with no more stereotypical commercial features. A vivid, situational and artistic scene is created to bring space, nature and people closer.
