About Sunnest Lampa Bùird

Is e lampa bùird ri taobh na leapa a th’ ann an Sunnest le solas anail a bheir seachad eadar-obrachadh giùlain le luchd-cleachdaidh gus cuideam a lughdachadh fhad ‘s a tha iad a’ cadal le bhith a ’dèanamh atharrais air mar a tha an t-iongantas nàdarra a’ crìonadh: Dol fodha na grèine. Air a bhrosnachadh le còmhlachan iris de lionsa, faodaidh luchd-cleachdaidh am pàirt plastaigeach sgòthach as àirde a thoinneamh, air a dhèanamh suas de dhà bhunait còmhlachan clò-bhuailte 3D agus sia lannan còmhla, ann an dòigh an aghaidh deiseal gus toirt air an t-solas a dhol a-mach nuair a thathar ga ro-mheasadh air a’ bhalla no mullach. . Le bhith a’ dol à bith mean air mhean de sholas co-cheangailte ri dol fodha na grèine faodaidh e faochadh a thoirt don luchd-cleachdaidh agus àrainneachd shocair a chruthachadh airson tuiteam na chadal.

Unique Properties: Sunnest is a bedside table lamp with a breathing light that provides behavioral interaction with users to reduce stress during sleeping, mimicking the fading out of the light of the natural phenomenon: Sunset. Utilizing an iris shutter of lens, users can twist the top part in an anti-clockwise way to make the light fading out. The gradual and subtle disappearance of light can be related to sunset which relieves the users.
Dimensions & Packaging: Width 96mm x Depth 96 mm x Height 155 mm
Tags: Bedside table lamp, behavioral interactions, stress relieve, mood lamp, emotions
Production Technology: For the main body of the product, a lathe machine is used to rotate wood pieces in an axis to turn a wood from rectangular to conical. As for the iris shutter mechanism, 6 shutter blades and 2 shutter bases are 3D printed. For the breathing light, an Arduino board is connected to the light bulb to create this effect.
Design Challenge: Internally, one creative challenge is to discover the use of iris shutter mechanism. Based on many different sketches and prototypes, it is yet far from satisfactory. After many trials and observation, the lens of a camera is accidentally discovered and then inspired. Externally, it is hard to mass produce the product as it is still on concept and initial prototyping stage. Further study should be conducted.
Research: This is houseware lighting research that discovers the pain points of sleeping quality. The research has covered world and Hong Kong general sleeping problems, evolution of lifestyle in bedroom, an interview with a user and a product analysis that study table, floor, and wall lamps. The study has found that sleeping with lights on can be a habit for some people and reachability from bed to the lamp is key. Hence, an analysis of possible lamp locations is made according to 5 different bedroom layout including beds placing at centred, corner, under the window, opposite to the door, and bed island.
Inspiration: According to a study conducted by Cigna Corporation in 2018, people aged 18 to 34 years old in Hong Kong suffer from the highest level of stress. As more people are struggling to sleep well recently because of uncertainty in their career and academic performance, they toss and turn all night but still not sleep well. This project aims to design a bedside lamp to improve their sleeping quality.
Project Duration: The project started in early September 2022 and finished at the end of December 2022 in Hong Kong.
Operation Flow: The product can simply be divided into 3 levels. By twisting the top black cloudy plastic part in an anticlockwise way, the diameter of the iris will decrease, and the size of light projected on the ceiling will become smaller. The top part is represented as a T shaped in order to provide an indication for placing purlicue.
