About Press Leabhar Ealain

Chaidh leabhar ealain a dhealbhadh gus ceist a chaidh a thogail le neach-ealain seuda a sgrùdadh; tha ar pròiseas comann inntinn a-nis nas motha an urra ri sgrùdadh air-loidhne seach na h-eòlasan pearsanta no na mothachaidhean againn. Tha an leabhar a ’nochdadh 8 collage agus prìomh fhaclan a thàinig bho algorithm sgrùdadh ìomhaigh. Tha na faclan air an clò-bhualadh air leth air pàipear lorg gus am faic an neach-coimhead an dara cuid dìreach a ’collage, no an cothlamadh dheth leis na prìomh fhaclan aige.

Unique Properties
This art book features 8 collages and the keywords derived from the algorithm. The keywords are each printed separately on tracing paper so that the viewer can see either just the collage, or the combination of it with its keywords. Square paper allows the viewer to see the collage and words equally from 8 different angles. As typography, the title PRESS is creatively arranged in the seams, etc. to conjure the image of the roller printing machine that was used for making the collage.

Production Technology
Stretchy paper and acrylic paints were used in making collages with an aim to minimize personal taste or intention of the jewelry artist as much as possible. Also, keywords linked to each collage were obtained using the Google image search algorithm.
Design Challenge
We printed the keywords derived from the algorithm separately on tracing paper so that the viewer can see either just the collage, or the combination of it with its keywords.

We used square paper as it allows the viewer to see the collage and words equally from 8 different angles.

Out of 40 collages, we carefully selected 8 collages in terms of its wide range of keywords and uniqueness in shape.
Research
To explore a question that our mental association process is now more dependent on online searching rather than our personal experiences or sensibilities.
This art book presents the viewer an opportunity to see both abstract collages and the keywords derived from the algorithm, which makes them realize their act of seeing and associating is changing due to the rise of artificial intelligence.
Inspiration
This art book was designed to feature the view of a jewelry artist who was confronted with a question that our mental association process is now more dependent on online searching rather than our personal experiences or sensibilities. She uploaded images of her own collage onto an image search engine to create a list of keywords through an algorithm. Will we blindly trust the search results? Or can we accept the differences, and find clues to develop a new way of seeing?
Project Duration
The project started in February 2019 in Tokyo. As a deliverable, this art book was published on June 27, 2019.
Operation Flow
This art book is already available online.
Just after its publication, we joined the Tokyo Art Book Fair 2019 in July. More exhibitions are coming soon.
