About Dash Primary Function: Cov Khoom Qhia Txog Kev Txheeb Xyuas Ntsej Muag
Dash yog ib qho khoom qhia txog kev txheeb xyuas ntsej muag uas tsim los rau kev tshuaj xyuas kev nyab xeeb hauv tshav dav hlau, chaw ua si, tsev kho mob thiab chaw ua koob tsheej. Dash muab lub koob yees duab, ib lub processor, software, ib daim tshuab kov (touchscreen) thiab cov phab LED sib txuas nrog ib lub database uas khaws cov ntaub ntawv biometric. Cov phab LED yuav hloov raws li qhov teeb pom kev sib txawv, yog li ntawd cov duab meej thiaj li txheeb tau sai thiab raug tiag rau cov ntaub ntawv biometric uas twb khaws cia lawm. Lub thawv rau lub taub hau ntsuas tau 350 milimeters dav, 550 milimeters siab thiab 150 milimeters tob, thiab nws raug tuav los ntawm ib tug ncej hlau uas luam xim (powder coated) thiab me zuj zus mus. Daim ntxaij loj kuj tseem qhia cov ntaub ntawv thiab kev tshaj tawm khoom lag luam thiab.

- Unique Properties
- Dash combines a camera, processor, software, touchscreen, and led panels with a biometric profile database. Based on years of previous experience, it’s our best performing biometric camera yet. The led panel adjusts to changing light conditions, providing high-quality photos for matching, while meeting stringent US airport security. The large screen doubles as an info and advertising point. Dash allows comfortable biometric identification in a quick, accurate manner.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The Intel 10th generation pc, bespoke led lighting circuit board, and 15.6 in touchscreen is housed within a custom enclosure, designed for maximum security for the biometric profiles. The Dash head enclosure is 350mm wide,550mm high, and 150mm deep. The pole kiosk mount with Dash has an overall size of 1850mm x 500mm x 500mm.

- Production Technology
- Dash is made from hundreds of components made in many ways. Camera, speakers, pc, screen and cables are purchased. There is a custom-led circuit board, optimized for diffuse illumination, and a laser-cut, formed sheet metal. Plastic parts were made with sls prints, as well as rtv urethane casting molds. The stand is made from powder coated steel tube and plates, cut and formed. Tamper resistant screws and fixings are purchased from factories. Overall the design is made to be onbrand while secure from unauthorized access.
- Design Challenge
- The most significant design challenge visually was adjusting to the long and thin camera/lens combination, chosen for high performance. The length made the depth of the Dash much thicker than more commonly seen flat screens. To minimize the visual size, deep rear chamfers and a sculpted central area on the back conceal the overall thickness. Additionally, a thin tapered support stand accentuates the delicate shape, helping to minimize the size. Inspiration was taken from Saarinen's tulip table and JFK airport terminal 5 architecture. The final product is the result of many design iterations and working prototypes.
- Research
- For aesthetic reasons and biometric identity performance, the team experimented with different design configurations, followed by review, and re-design. The lighting led pcb went through many iterations to best illuminate a subject in a natural way. These models were tested in a lab and in live public areas, such as the Fort Lauderdale Airport, to research performance in a space with changing lighting conditions.
- Inspiration
- Dash is the latest of CLEAR biometric innovations. Designed for facial identification only, this version fits CLEAR’s brand with rounded shapes and white color, while evolving the brand with a smaller, sleeker form. The new shapes bring in retro-futuristic airport styling cues, reminiscent of Saarinen.
- Project Duration
- The project started in New York, Laguna Beach, and Bristol (UK) in January 2019. The first prototypes were tested in Ft Lauderdale in April 2019, then again in May in Houston. The first production was created for Citi Field baseball stadium in New York in August 2019. Production has continued since then for events, sporting stadiums, hospitals, and airports across the US.
- Operation Flow
- The subject walks up to Dash and reads the onscreen instructions. Lights adjust for local conditions. Photos are taken and sent to software to check against a biometric profile database. With a match, subject is notified via onscreen cues, then they can make selections on touchscreen. DASH finishes by displaying info and instructions, like seat number. If there is no match, info is displayed on front and rear screens and attendant is notified.
