- Unique Properties
- It is renovating the school infirmary in Taipei city, Ren-ai elementary school. Therefore, the design is developed with biophilic, introducing more natural light, incorporating natural texture and material, and smooth curved surfaces.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- 14 m width x 9.5 m depth x 3.3 m height
Total area 110 m2 - Tags
- Infirmary, Elementary School, Interior, Renovation
- Production Technology
- Wood carpentry and prefabricated furniture components and assembled on site. Since it is a health center, majority of surface is treated with anti-alcohol finish for easier cleaning.
- Design Challenge
- It is renovation of existing health center, which had issues in not enough natural light, messy storage space, and congestions while many students were using the space. Therefore, the design is developed with design thinking method which articulate the problem and find solution via design.
- Research
- This project is a part of design movement on campus initiated by Taiwan Design Research Institute and supported by Ministry of Education. It promotes students aesthetic sense by witnessing high quality of designed classroom.
- Inspiration
- The design is inspired by the harmonious water ripples coexisting in one space. Each circle represents a particular function, such as the nurse's office, beds, breastfeeding rooms, and counter. Furthermore, the rings calm the injured student when they come for treatment.
- Project Duration
- The project started in September 2021 as the design proposal, and selected in November 2021 in Taipei city, Taiwan. The construction was completed in March 2022 and the space was open to public in April 2022.
- Operation Flow
- The space clear path for injured students to find the nurse and get treated. While there is once a year physical checking for students, the space installed the checking points and smooth circulation without having congestions.
