About Akchurin New York Hardcover Book
Akchurin New York is a limited edition hardcover book on self-sufficient, net-zero energy architecture. The oversize volume contains 512 pages of photographs, technical diagrams and illustrations that explain the building process from first concept to finished property. The glossy black cover uses Favini Classy Covers paper with hot graphite foil stamping. Each of the 100 copies is signed and numbered, and is supplied in a custom slipcase or ebony box with foil stamping. The book records engineering solutions for sustainable construction.
Chingiz Akchurin's Hardcover Book represents a distinguished achievement in contemporary limited edition publishing design, demonstrating how restrained material choices and sophisticated typographic treatment can elevate the book object into a collectible artifact of enduring aesthetic value. The work engages with longstanding traditions of fine press publishing while embracing contemporary minimalist sensibilities, creating a visual and tactile experience that rewards both immediate appreciation and sustained contemplation. The designer's decision to employ cloth binding in deep charcoal rather than conventional paper or leather speaks to a material philosophy valuing authentic texture and understated luxury over ostentatious display. The embossed typography achieves remarkable presence through subtle dimensional treatment, the letterforms emerging from the cloth surface as shadows and highlights rather than contrasting colors, a technique requiring precise calibration between debossing depth, material resilience, and lighting conditions to achieve legibility without sacrificing elegance. The accompanying slipcase extends the design language into a protective housing that transforms storage into presentation, the matte black surface creating dramatic tonal counterpoint while maintaining chromatic harmony within the achromatic palette. One might observe how the typographic hierarchy distributes information across book and slipcase, reserving the primary nameplate for maximum scale on the cover while secondary descriptive text occupies the slipcase spine in more modest proportion. The work invites consideration of how physical books persist as meaningful cultural objects in an increasingly digital age, their material presence offering sensory experiences and collector value that screens cannot replicate. What relationship might exist between the tactile encounter with woven cloth and the intellectual engagement with the content within?

- Production Technology
- Cutting-edge inventions, designs, and engineering systems revolutionize the way we build and live. This book has illustrations, detailed explanations, and technical diagrams that chronicle the next generation of green architecture and self-sufficient building. From design concept to finished property, the building process is efficient, environmentally responsible, and sustainable. Factory-built quality, high-speed assembly, and system integration are hallmarks of this turn-key modernization.
- Design Challenge
- The biggest challenge for this project was collecting, formatting, and processing the information for this complex house, including engineering developments, patents, and inventions. All the book content, including photos, visualizations, texts, diagrams, and illustrations, was created from scratch by a team from five different countries. Only one printing house agreed to produce this oversized, handcrafted book.
- Project Duration
- The project started in November 2019 and was completed in December 2020 in New York City, USA.
- Operation Flow
- Metaphoric representation of the eco-friendly, sustainable building materials are beautifully paired with illustrations from nature and described.
- Research
- The objective was to create self-sufficient building technology and publish the results. The research broadened into an analysis of the net-zero energy building market and the possibility of entering the global market. Development and prototyping of the houses using three-dimensional information models of all the engineering systems and equipment were completed. For over 5 years, a highly qualified team has been formed, and patents and copyrights were obtained for intellectual property.
- Inspiration
- The pen is said to be mightier than the sword - meaning communicating ideas is powerful. Writing engages people, inspires imagination, and leaves traces in their lives. When remarkable ideas challenge tradition, they leave a mark on society in a way that commands respect. This oversize book feels heavy, like the weighing crisis of global warming. The imposing size reflects the profound responsibility of the project.
