About Lucid Dream Residence

Lucid Dream is an apartment interior design created for a couple in Taiwan. The home covers 132 square meters on the eleventh floor of a 15-year-old building. The original four-room layout was changed into three rooms, releasing space for a larger social area and foyer. Titanium-plated metal bars wrap the ceiling beams, while braided panels, patterned tiles, marble and wood grain join technical and artistic materials. Mineral paint walls, display areas and custom storage cabinets allow artwork and collectibles to be shown.

Lus Design's Residence exemplifies a refined approach to contemporary residential interior architecture that positions materiality, spatial clarity, and luminosity at the center of domestic experience, working within a design lineage that extends from mid-century Scandinavian modernism through minimalist spatial philosophies to arrive at a sophisticated synthesis appropriate for contemporary living patterns. The compositional achievement lies primarily in the designer's masterful orchestration of horizontal and vertical elements across an open-plan layout, establishing clear functional zones without recourse to solid partitions while maintaining visual coherence through careful alignment of architectural features including the recessed ceiling plane with its suspended linear luminaires, the continuous runs of wood cabinetry that anchor spatial boundaries, and the generous fenestration that floods the interior with natural light; the chromatic sophistication emerges from a deliberately restrained palette built upon warm neutrals and cool grays, allowing natural wood tones to register as chromatic events within an otherwise subdued field, a strategy that privileges material authenticity over decorative color application and suggests an aesthetic philosophy aligned with material honesty and phenomenological presence. Technical facility manifests in the precision joinery evident in cabinet construction, the seamless integration of lighting systems within architectural reveals, the careful alignment of tile coursing across the floor plane, and the invisible detailing that allows disparate materials to meet without visual conflict, passages of particular accomplishment including the kitchen peninsula where storage, workspace, and social seating integrate within a single volumetric element, and the media wall composition where technology, display surface, storage, and decorative material converge in balanced proportions. Thematically, the work explores domesticity reimagined for contemporary patterns of living where cooking, dining, relaxing, and entertaining flow together rather than occupying separate chambers, where natural light and visual connection to the exterior remain accessible throughout the interior volume, and where material quality rather than quantitative accumulation defines spatial character; one might observe that the design celebrates everyday rituals of home life through spatial generosity and material warmth while maintaining the visual discipline and restraint characteristic of high modernist traditions, suggesting that domestic comfort need not rely on decorative excess but can emerge from proportion, light, material, and the careful calibration of spatial relationships. The work invites contemplation of how contemporary residential interiors might balance openness with definition, warmth with clarity, functional pragmatism with aesthetic pleasure, and minimal formal means with maximal experiential richness, asking viewers to consider what constitutes essential versus superfluous in spaces dedicated to daily living.

Unique Properties
To satisfy the aesthetic expectations of the residents, the designer utilized soft materials. The braided panels are complemented by patterned tiles and plants. The shower area in the master bedroom is covered with tiles with a ginkgo pattern, symbolizing calmness and toughness, in keeping with the personal characteristics of the occupants. Large color blocks serve as visual representations. In the vein of modern design, the designer used the dark and hard impression of marble with the warmth and softness of wood grain. The sense of technology is created by its cleanliness and casualness.
Dimensions & Packaging
The site is a 15-year-old apartment with 2 plus 1 bedrooms on the 11th floor with a total internal area of 132 square meters. It was originally a four-room layout but was converted to a three-room based on the number of occupants. The released space expands the social area and the foyer. The designer wrapped the ceiling beams with different materials. The curved shape and lines make the boundaries between the study room, dining room, and living room clear.

Production Technology
Materials: titanium plated, magnetic metal panels, slate tiles, KEIM mineral paint, eco-friendly paints, KD PP panels, Italian tiles, etc. The color scheme is based on a warm tone. The large area of light colors and the embellishment of wood, metal, stone, and other elements between the ceiling, floor, and walls create a delicate and exquisite transformation. In particular, the beam through the ceiling is covered and trimmed with titanium-plated metal bars, creating a flowing visual effect.
Design Challenge
The challenge was sophisticated structural adjustments and renovation of the old apartment. The site's uneven flooring, poor acoustic insulation, and outdoor water leaks needed to be addressed in the pre-construction phase to achieve a comfortable living experience. Another challenge was the mix of elements. The woman likes artistic materials such as tiles, weaves, wood grains, and plants. Finding the perfect proportions among the complex patterns was one of the challenges.
Project Duration
The project finished in November 2023 in Taiwan.
Operation Flow
The residents loved the spaciousness and visual effect of the remodel. In addition to the visual aesthetics, they particularly appreciated details such as areas for displaying artwork, customized storage cabinets, and large mineral paint-covered walls for future display of paintings or collectibles. These plans allow the occupants to establish a stronger connection with nature and art in the space.
Research
The site is an old apartment. The name, 'Lucid Dream', suggests that in a state of extreme relaxation, one can enter a place between waking and dreaming. The two owners have different needs. The male favors technology while the female needs a space for artistic creation. The designer skillfully blended these two elements to create a modern and artistic home. In addition to technology, the soft materials and selected artistic decorations show the aesthetic concept and taste of the residents.
Inspiration
The old apartment serves a couple. The husband yearns for technology while the wife prefers an artistic atmosphere. To harmonize the two, the designer adopted the concept of 'lucid dream'. From a psychological point of view, people can create art according to their lifestyle in a comfortable, natural, and awake state. The interior is a combination of technological materials and artistic materials. Different materials are used to create a multi-functional space.
