About Prisma Refrigerator Line

Prisma is a refrigerator line designed for compact homes. The slim cabinet keeps a small footprint while offering three capacities of 311, 271 and 243 liters. Crisp geometry and an integrated asymmetric handle form a smooth exterior that is easy to clean. A full width dispenser and an LED touch panel keep daily use simple. Modular bins and tempered glass shelves adapt to changing storage needs. No Frost cooling and an inverter compressor hold temperatures stable with low noise and reduced energy use.

Industrias Haceb S.A's Prisma Refrigerator Line engages the enduring design challenge of transforming utilitarian domestic appliances into objects of aesthetic contemplation, situating itself within the contemporary movement toward appliance-as-furniture and the elevation of kitchen equipment from functional necessity to designed artifact worthy of visual appreciation. The work demonstrates compositional accomplishment through its rigorous adherence to geometric purity, presenting an uncompromising vertical rectangular volume whose proportions suggest careful attention to golden ratio relationships between height, width, and depth, while the bilateral symmetry along the central vertical axis creates visual stability and formal authority that commands attention within domestic environments. The chromatic sophistication lies precisely in its restraint, the deep black finish serving multiple functions simultaneously as it conceals the complex mechanical systems within, provides a neutral backdrop that allows the appliance to recede or assert presence depending on surrounding context, and communicates premium positioning through the cultural associations linking high-gloss black surfaces with luxury goods, sophisticated technology, and refined taste across consumer product categories. Notable passages of particular accomplishment include the masterful integration of the dispenser panel, which interrupts the monolithic surface with geometric precision while maintaining overall formal unity through careful proportional relationships and material contrast that draws the eye without disrupting compositional harmony, and the subtle linear accent along the vertical edge that introduces visual rhythm and material variety while reinforcing the essential verticality of the form. The technical facility evident in the flawless surface finish, the precise alignment of horizontal division lines, and the seamless integration of functional elements within the pure geometric envelope suggests manufacturing sophistication and quality control that elevates industrial production to craft-level execution. Thematically, the Prisma Refrigerator Line appears to explore the intersection of domestic utility and aesthetic minimalism, questioning traditional boundaries between appliance and architectural element, between background infrastructure and foreground focal point, and between industrial object and sculptural presence, inviting consideration of how designed objects increasingly carry symbolic weight representing lifestyle aspirations, environmental values through suggested efficiency, and personal identity expression through aesthetic choices that extend beyond mere functional requirements. The work resonates with material culture traditions that privilege surface perfection, geometric clarity, and visual restraint as markers of quality and sophistication, while potentially referencing modernist design philosophies that sought beauty through functional honesty and formal reduction, the Japanese aesthetic principle of shibui celebrating understated elegance, and contemporary sustainable design movements that emphasize longevity through timeless rather than trendy styling. What might we discover about our relationships with domestic objects when they transcend purely functional roles to become aesthetic anchors within living spaces, and how does design excellence in everyday appliances contribute to the quality of daily experience and the cultivation of environments that nurture both practical needs and aesthetic sensibilities?

Production Technology
Prisma is manufactured under high quality standards, with a cold rolled steel cabinet and electrostatic paint, insulated with polyurethane foam. It incorporates recycled polystyrene, ABS containers, and tempered glass shelves. Its independent cooling system and Inverter Motor ensure A rated efficiency. It includes an in mold label touch panel, smart sensors, and a sustainable design that guarantees durability, technology, and adaptation to any climate.
Design Challenge
This refrigerator is the result of a deep understanding of the dynamics of Colombian households: compact spaces, diverse habits, and real needs. Each module was conceived as a flexible system integrating design, functionality, and sustainability. The goal: to create a user friendly, efficient experience that transforms everyday routines into something meaningful and connected to the user.
Project Duration
Prisma originated in April 2024 as part of the company’s renewal of its refrigeration line, responding to the real needs of Colombian households. The initial research shaped the concept in June, which was refined in July and finalized in December. In February 2025, the first prototype with real 1:1 materials and finishes was developed to validate it with end users. User feedback was incorporated, adjustments were made to the concept, and final specifications were released for development and its upcoming launch in 2026.
Operation Flow
The digital panel redefines interaction with the refrigerator by blending innovation, elegance, and warmth. Inspired by the purity of prism light, its 3D icons evoke the sophistication of an LED screen, while the soft edges and chrome finishes add distinction. The graphic application screen printed on the door racks, trays, bottom cover, and internal components not only creates high impact visual contrasts but also guides the user toward optimal storage, promoting better preservation of each item. The light gray tone blends with the materials, creating harmony and elevating the design into a unique visual experience.
Research
This mixed methods study (qualitative and quantitative) analyzed refrigerator use in Colombian households, focusing on habits, purchase drivers, and perceptions related to design and energy efficiency. The methodology included a qualitative phase (home visits and focus groups across different regions of the country: Northern Zone, Central Zone, Northwestern Zone) and a national survey of 387 households, with the participation of 33 buyers and 11 experts. The results revealed a food waste rate of 7.75%, a strong preference for designs with a digital panel, and high sensitivity to energy savings. The project aims to strengthen business competitiveness and promote food preservation and sustainable design.
Inspiration
Prisma was born from the rhythm of modern life: small homes filled with stories and ever evolving contexts. Each interior space becomes a functional puzzle like a Tetris that embraces the diversity of sizes and moments within households. Its exterior reflects the essence of the brand while evolving with global trends, achieving modernity without losing its connection to Colombian homes.
